Hannah Ford wants to take a world tour because she's inherited a large amount of money from her granny but before she wants to celebrate this beautiful occasion with her near and dear friends and this begins an affair of fun night, drinks, friendships and murder. Eight people are invited to the party and the party started like normal ones but sometimes normal things turn scary. Katherine is dead and the other seven aren't that comfortable because if the police will be involved then their secrets would come to light.
The dead woman was seeing someone and now his entry is shown but he's not what he's saying he's but again neither are they.
This story has right amount of thriller and tension but the only problem is it's second part which felt like a general thriller instead of a psychological thriller. Otherwise the ending was AMAZING. I LOVED IT.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
Kerry Wilkinson is the Master of twists without a shadow of a doubt. He has written another psychological thriller with shocking twists that take your breath away. This book has everything you could possibly want, murder, revenge, jealousy, mystery and suspense. I raced through it because I needed to get to the end. All the characters are relatable and I connected with all of them, especially Hannah the protagonist, she's a determined, brave woman and all she wants to do is protect her family. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the ending was phenomenal and it completely took me by surprise. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED LOVED IT, from the beginning to the end. Congratulations Kerry, you are a very clever writer, who knows how to shock your readers.
Hannah has rented a house for her friends as in six days time she is off travelling. They can relax, play games (Hannahs idea) and have a drink in a luxury house. When the wine flows, even Katherine who hasn't drunk that much gets rather carried away with her antics. She was a late invitee when Hannah bumped into her but has known her since being at school. Unfortunately some of the women don’t get on with each other- secrets from the past coming out. When one of the women is found dead the next morning they are all shocked, however secrets come out that would put at least two of them in trouble if there was a post mortem. When a man the dead woman had been briefly seeing starts noseying around, the rest of the women find it's not as straightforward as they first thought.
OMG! As ever with Kerry’s books I found myself quickly hooked. What begins as a domestic drama and spats of the past turns into something quite different- I won’t spoil anything. I was propelled through the pages and liked the tension this gave. I didn't work out whodunnit which was great and this was cleverly done. A thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining read.

This was my first book by this author and I was not impressed. I thought the premise sounded interesting. I honestly just didn't think it was executed properly. I thought the characters made some questionable decisions. Also I thought the characters kind of read younger than they were explained to be. This wasn't a bad book by any means it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
Hannah gathers the women near and dear to her heart for one last night of bonding before she embarks on a long trip abroad. Still smarting from her divorce and the fact that her life has not gone according to plan, she's desperate for a fresh start, and maybe a second chance at life. Eight women pile into the luxury house for the night but only seven make it out in the morning - alive, that is. As the story continues, secrets are revealed: broken friendships, a large inheritance, and dangerously close brushes with the law. Who has the most to gain from her death and who has the most to hide?
I gave this book 3 stars. While the overall storyline is good in theory, none of the characters acted in ways that made sense in real life. There was one character who upon the death, immediately had an action plan to cover it up, and there was no concern for the dead character. Another character goes out of their way to investigate the murder despite not knowing the character well at all. The ending was a twist (as are all endings in thrillers) and I loved the way the culprit was discovered. The hints about that in the book with tertiary characters tied in perfectly with how it happened. The actual culprit, however, fell flat because it didn't seem very realistic.
Overall a fast-paced, easy thriller you can read in a day. I appreciate any thriller that centers women and their shenanigans, so I'd recommend this to anyone who shares that sentiment.

Wilkinson knows tension. There were places in this psychological thriller where I had to take a break and walk away for awhile! I was so tense!
Hannah Ford has inherited a good amount of money from her grandmother’s estate and so she decides she’s going to travel the world. But, before she leaves, she has a send-off party with female family members and friends in a rented house. One of the guests goes a little crazy when taking Ecstasy. She dances on the kitchen counter and then leaps onto the chandelier. The party has gone from a calm game night to a horrific nightmare. It’s tension time and it doesn’t let up until the end so buckle up and plan to read this book in one sitting.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really like Kerry Wilkinson's writing style. His writing flows really well and I love how the prose is littered with comical observations about human nature. It's this reason I always look forward to reading his books.
I definitely enjoyed this one. It was a relatively quick read, well paced and with an interesting story. I did guess the ending quite early on but there were still lots of interesting developments along the way.
Good book! This was definitely a twisted story! This book had suspense, intrigue, action and a great who done it! Plenty of twists and turns! And a surprise plot twist! I will definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
As a long time fan of Kerry Wilkinson, I was eagerly looking forward to reading his latest offering. I wasn't disappointed, and read the whole book in just 2 sittings.
Hannah is going abroad for a while, and her family and friends were holding a small gathering as a going away party. All was going well despite two of the gang being 'frenemies', until Katherine starts to behave out of character, and gets injured. However, she refuses to go to hospital. It is discovered that she took something that caused her odd behaviour. Bed time comes, and they all trot off to their rooms to get some sleep. The next morning, Katherine is found dead in her bed......and so begins a panicked cover up, for the gang believe that she died as a result of her injuries the night before, or from the drugs she took.
Did Katherine die from her injuries, or was there something else going on?
The only way to find out is for you to read the book. You won't be disappointed!
I'm looking forward to Mr Wilkinson's next books, especially the Jessica Daniel ones!
Hannah decides t travel abroad after being left an inheritance from her grandmother. She decides to have a going away party with a group of friends along with her sisters, mother and aunt.
After the night away at No. 12, a house rented for this special occasion, one o the guests is found dead.. This was not quite what Hannah thought her big night would entail but then again a night of board games probably was not high on the list of activities for such a celebration. Now there are major problems, how will they handle this situation and what lies behind the secrets and lies that are being held.
I found this an ok read but I am not sure it will stay in my memory for a long time, a very quick book to read that I enjoyed but would not call a must read.
The Party at Number 12 is a thriller about a going-away party that ends in murder. It kept my interest, some elements were predictable but it's still a well-written book and a solid choice for anyone interested in books that involve figuring out "who did it." My three-star rating reflects my opinion that this book is very middle of the road for me. Not bad at all but I wasn't in love with it. I felt indifferent about the characters.
Thanks for the advance review copy.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kerry Wilkinson for my gifted copy!
Synopsis:
It's supposed to be the last night of having all her family and friends together before Hannah goes traveling and might even stay abroad for good. But with all of the past grievances between her guests, can a party with all of them there do any good? Hannah decides to give it a go and invites them to a fancy house rented especially for this evening. But the next morning, one of them won't wake up...
My opinion:
Do you know the kind of books that are just hard - or maybe even impossible - to rate? I bet you do, and this one is one of those books. So, let me untangle my thoughts on it a bit.
The story started off great. The party guests seemed to share my kind of humour and I found myself giggling loudly more than once during the first few chapters. Then, the death happened, and the way they all behaved - it was just so UNNATURAL and implausible. Like, WHO TF ACTS LIKE THIS WHEN SOMEBODY YOU CARE ABOUT IS FOUND DEAD?! I'm sorry to say this, but I was realllly annoyed by the next few chapters. I don't mind stretching my beliefs a bit, but I couldn't relate to any of the decisions, by no one. Zach, another main character, suddenly showed up out of nowhere, and, again, no one does what he did for a person he has only known for such a short time! The whole middle part read like some kind of YA book, and I couldn't believe the characters were supposed to be in their late 20s/early 30s. Anyway, enough with the ranting, the ending was A-MA-ZING! The last few chapters had me glued to the pages and I couldn't get enough! This was SO creepy it sent shivers down my spine. I loved how the author wrote the whodunnit, and I would have guessed anyone could have but the person who actually did.
This was my first book by this author, and I will definitely try another one of hers!
Parts of this book reminded me of:
- That Night by Gillian McAllister
- In A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
- The Birthday Girl by Sue Fortin
My rating: 2* for the first half, 5* for the second half, so I guess 3* it is!
The Party at No. 12 by Kerry Wilkinson is another compulsive read from an author who is yet to disappoint. As per usual with Mr Wilkinson's brilliant books, I was virtually propelled through the pages, and life was placed on hold as I feverishly wove my way through the clues to reach a shocking conclusion.
Hannah Ford is about to leave on her travels, and a group of family and friends have assembled at a luxury rental property to send her off in style. The night takes a deadly turn, however, when a body is discovered, and so begins a cleverly executed closed room mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
This was an enjoyable thriller and whilst the characters did not appeal to me I enjoyed the plot twists and will definitely look out for more titles by this author
Thanks NetGalley, Bookouture and Kerry Wilkinson for an ARC to review.
It all started with friends and family gathering for a farewell party. Nobody could have seen what happened next.
What truly happened at Number 12 would unravel slowly throughout an engaging thriller.
What would you do if you were in a situation where your moral compass is on the line? Would you lie to protect your loved ones, will that make you the bad guy?
Not my first book for the author and won't be my last.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this ARC. This author never fails to surprise. Wow is all i can say a page turner and so many twists. Can t wait to read more by this author
Organising a party is fun and being invited to one might be even more fun. That is most certainly true, but it also depends on the kind of party and who the guests are.
As the hostess you have a certain planning in your mind, but when the party goers don’t really feel like joining in and old wounds are the elephant in a room, it does not turn out to be what you were expecting. And you certainly were not expecting to find this before you even had breakfast…
To call the police or not to call the police, that’s the question… What would you have done? Followed in Hannah and her entourage’s footsteps or take a different direction?
The author really kept the name of the culprit very well hidden until the last few pages. Quite a few names flashed through my mind, but was this one one of them? I can assure you it was not. 😉 Kudos to the author.
Once again I realise that people kill for reasons that might seem banal to some, but to them really mean a lot.
So yes, the name as well as the reason why were total surprises to me. I love that. 5 stars.
Thank you
Kerry Wilkinson does it again with another amazing, intriguing wonderful thriller.
The Party at Number 12 pulled me in from the very start, and did not let go until the final page.
The characters of the story really had me drawn in and after reading the first chapter, I was hooked, loved the twists and turns.
A great story-line and cleverly written.
I've read a few if his books and he gets better and better every time.
Bookouture,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I will post my review closer to pub date.
You are NOT going to be able to put this book down. And, you are not going to see what's coming. And, you're gonna love it.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of The Party at Number 12. I was excited to receive this book and I was not disappointed. A few twists but the ending came out of nowhere!!! I did not like the characters except one and they were a real good character. Good plot, fast read, wanted to finish to see how it ended. Enjoy reading!!!
