Really found this book fascinating and a lot of it resonated with myself. I liked the conversational way the interviews went, made it much less dry than many other books of this nature.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
I am a sensitive person so I wanted to read this book to see what I recognise in my reactions of coping mechanisms. Useful for people who are sensitive or someone who is close to a sensitive person.
Found this book so fascinating.
I am HIghly Sensitive myself and have know about this trait for quite a number of years. I am delighted that many more people are discovering it and that people like Hannah are talking about it in high profile forums. It's so vital that there is more recogntiton of the trait and what it means to live as a Highly Sensitive Person.
I work in supporting children's mental health and it is vital to have resources like this to point parents towards to help them understand their sensitive child and to parent them with sensitivity and care in order to allow them to flourish.
This was a really interesting look into highly sensitve people, and a really validating read as someone who identifies as an HSP. Highly recommend to anyone who's ever been told that they have too many feelings or that they react too strongly as it helps to shift perspective.
This could have been tailor made for me, I'm like the most sensitive person EVER! I take everything to heart, misconstrue what's being said to me and since the pandemic, my anxiety and weight gain has knocked my self esteem and confidence out the door.
It veers between a self help book/memoir as the author talks a lot of her and her daughters struggle with sensitivity. I found so much relatable and it also makes you feel less that you're not alone.
The second part of the book delves a little deeper and with scientific help theories on being sensitive are discussed.
Sensitive is definitely a book that I will be dipping into again in the future.
Many thanks to Random Things Tours for my tour spot.

This was a brilliantly written, insightful look at being 'sensitive'. A great read for those that relate and those that dont.
In Sensitive the author looks at what it means to be a Highly Sensitive Person, the benefits of being highly sensitive and how society and our education system is not structured in a way that supports those who are sensitive. Hannah Jane Walker is a highly sensitive person and she writes from a very personal point of view. She looks at the groundbreaking work of Dr Elaine Aron and speaks to others in the field.
As someone who is highly sensitive I was keen to read more on this topic and to discover what can be added to Dr Aron's work.
The strongest aspect of this work is that it's written from a personal perspective and the author emphasizes that being highly sensitive is a trait- it is nothing to be ashamed of, we shouldn't feel weak or any the less because of this trait. This gets to the heart of how many of us have felt growing up ,when being labelled as 'too sensitive' was seen as weak and negative thing to be. Highly sensitive people have all too often been told that they don't fit into society, rather than reframing the issue to look at what highly sensitives bring to society and how society can be structured to frame it as a positive trait.
I wasn't so keen on the way the book was structured to include the scripts of interviews with Dr Aron and others and felt it would've worked better for the author to paraphrase these and highlight the most important aspects of the conversations.
Overall a good addition to the work on highly sensitives that I'd recommend.
Sensitive by Hannah Jane Walker explores the trait of sensitivity from the perspective of the author about herself and her daughter.
This book is great, I really loved reading this - and it felt so so good to read a book that understand the sensitive person. It made me feel seen and heard.
I felt like I was in a therapy session when reading this.
I got so much from it, and there is so much info in it!
Thoroughly recommend!
I was keen to read this after a friend of mine told me she'd discovered she was a highly sensitive person. This book is informative but the information is presented in an accessible way and not too technical. It's quite a quick read but succeeds in explaining a bit behind the personality type.
