This manga was cute. Definitely need to read more to see what else the story is about. But was definitely interested in reading more based off of how it has begun.
A story of an orphan trying to get a in a marriage interview with three sisters? Not a bad read but I'm not the biggest fan of the fan service. It got a bit too much for my liking, I was practically irked by it overall. I wanted to like the story tbh, as I liked a good arranged-marriage-situation-ish, but overall it was just meh for me.
2.5🌟
Very beautiful art style and a cute story with characters that are each unique individuals and well-fleshed out. The only think I didn't care for was the weird semi-mystical component that came into it at the very last chapter. It seemed out of place in the rest of the story.
Who doesn't love a good harem manga every now and then? Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister Vol. 1 sets up the most unlikely of scenarios, forcing the main character into quite the predicament. All for our sake, of course.
Uryu Kamihate is on his way to his new foster home, which shouldn't have been much to report. Only...it's not so much a foster situation as an arranged marriage. Uryu is expected to choose one of the three daughters to become his bride.
The Amagami sisters are lively and quirky, all with their own personalities and temperaments for Uryu to work around. How will he ever choose which sister to marry?
I'm being rhetorical here. There's really only one choice for Uryu. The writer makes it clear from the start which sister is the most likely candidate. The older sister isn't a good fit (and I feel like her personality has the least focus because of this), and the youngest one is too young!
Seriously, the age of the youngest sister is enough to make me uncomfortable. I get that arranged marriages can happen young, but that's not the only thing worth discussing here. After all, the three girls are courting Uryu, which means they all get put in sexual situations. Think fan service.
On the bright side, Uryu seems to be a good guy. He wants to date the girls and get to know them before making his choice. So he gets bonus points for that.
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister Vol. 1 is an entertaining series perfect for fans who love this genre.
actually, star 3.25 I like the characters but not the over sexual females I think it is a bit unnecessary. The motives for each MC and hobbies were very interesting and motivational as well. There is a relationship I ship more than the others since I like the enemies to lovers trope. I don't know if I will continue the series but i would be interested in at least see the next volume
I will never understand how three people from the same family can have three different hair colors and look different from each other, but that’s manga/anime in a nutshell. The story behind Amagami Sisters is easy to sum up. An orphan by the name of Uryu Kamihate has aged out of the orphanage he lives in. The caretaker of a shire has agreed to take him in, but when he gets there… there’s a catch. He must marry one of his granddaughters and take over running the shrine.
Now this wouldn’t be much of a story if all parties were onboard with the plan. Kamihate has turned his back on the gods due to his mother dying of an illness when he was a child. It’s alluded to that he did a lot of shrine visits, folded a lot of cranes and basically did all the things the “gods” said to do in order to save his mother. Now he only believes in medicine, especially since his surrogate mother is a doctor that raised him.
The sisters, Yuna, Asahi and Yae all have different feelings on the subject, which become clear as they begin going on marriage interviews. The youngest Asahi seems to be interested in getting married, even if she’s fourteen and he’s seventeen. The middle daughter Yuna seems to be our main character of the three and she’s the same age but doesn’t like Kamihate and yet is willing to take a bullet for the other two and marry him if it’ll keep the shrine going which is all she cares about. Then there’s Yae, a very inconsistent character that seems a little perverted at first and then comes across depressed and unconfident by the end of the volume.
A lot of the situations the teens find themselves in are typical of the genre. Our very first meeting has all three ladies in their underwear and of course Kamihate barges in and gets a face full of boobies before having salt thrown at him over and over by Yuna. Kamihate tries to get along with the girls and even does their chores for them, which leads to the typical joke that he’s better at domestics than they are combined.
For most of the story, it really felt generic and typical cheesecake. Then during the marriage interviews and one instance in which Kamihate returns to the orphanage, we end up getting this rich backstory for his character. It didn’t make me root for him and love, but it did make me curious to see Kamihate’s journey with the shrine. He’s a lapsed believer and suddenly he’s being thrust back into the lifestyle that he studies and believed in so much as a child. It’s a neglected connection to his mother that’s been reopened. Frankly, that was more interesting than the marriage interviews. Asahi seems to be the only one ready for marriage and she’s three years younger than Kamihate. Yae was an interesting character until her wedding interview in which she makes a sharp turn away from what’s been introduced.
As strange as this will sound, there’s not that much fan service and at times it felt like the story could use some to break up the mundane elements being laid out. Otherwise, the artwork is solid from start to finish. It’s well polished but does feel a little dated. The art isn’t bad, but it doesn’t stand out in a sea of manga. Even still there was something about the main character that was always enjoyable. The site gags are spot on, and the use of shadowing and grey tones fits the story and looks skilled.
When I first started planning my review for Amagami Sisters, I initially thought it was more on the average side. The longer I put off writing the review the more I couldn’t help thinking about the parts that I enjoyed. The main character’s back story is compelling and realistic. It gave his character a different layer and overall sense to the character when he was dealing with his possible brides. The dynamic changed everything about the story and really made me curious to read the next volume. While I’m only moderately interested in who he picks as his bride (not that it will ever commit or force him to choose), I’m more interested in seeing how he navigates his relationship with the girls.
"Tying the knot with Amagami sister" is a manga about a guy named Uryu Kamihate, he's a kid that is from foster home and he was just recently taken in to the family. It's a shrine, there he meets the Amagami sisters, each one of them is unique and different. The youngest is a wanna be grown up, but she herself also has some vulnerable times. She's shy and bit scared, but no matter she's sweet and cute. The middle sister isn't always honest with her feelings, she has a tough shield, but once you get through it she can be very affectionate and passionate. The oldest is a bit weird, she's a total airhead, living in a whole other world.
The story at first was boring and slow for me, I couldn't feel hooked or attached to the character at all, I've even thought about not continuing it and leave as DNF, but I refused to bail and said to myself that I have to finish, maybe it'll get better, maybe not. When I gotten to the part where you could finally get to know the sisters, their's personalities, fears and wishes, it really got much more interesting. There were some funny times between Uryu Kamihate and his age sister, I love how they would always argue. Just when it looks they finally calmed down, the emotions rise again.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for giving me and online ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Cute artwork, quite a bit of fan service so I wouldn’t be able to recommend this to many customers at work. Quite funny too with a bit of a comedy of errors thing going on at one point.
I'm not typically a big fan of harems to begin with, but this one is especially weird. They build up this story about an atheist finding his faith again, only to suddenly hit you with a harem story that hints this character will end up with all three girls. What does that have to do with God? Is God the one who wants him to be in a harem? Not to mention the girl he's actually in love with is his stepmom. Huge pass for me.
Thank you so much to the author, Kodansha Comics, and NetGalley for the complimentary ARC!

Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister was not quite what I was expecting.
It's a harem, it has plenty of boobs and lingerie and such... this isn't a big issue for me, I've read plenty similar manga, I just wasn't really expecting so much and just in case that's not your thing... yeah... just a heads up.
I didn't love this manga but I didn't hate it. It has some enjoyable parts, some "okay" parts, I did find myself just skimming pages, rushing through some of it. The ending is a bit interesting...
The MC is a bit too serious, the girls each have their own personality which each seems a bit too much... too ditsy, too flirty, too in your face.
I do love that our MC is an atheist... and his new foster home is a temple.... and he has to marry one of the sisters and take over the temple. This is a fun twist to this story and I'll probably continue reading just to see how it all plays out.
Overall just okay... I might pick up volume 2 just to see how the story continues, if the characters are "so much" and see how things develop.
I gave up about halfway through. Sadly I don't think this is for me. The artwork is nice I struggled with the story.
I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn’t sure about this at first but when has it ever stopped me when it comes to mangas and graphic novels?! 😂 A bunch of shrine maidens and an orphan to possibly being wed to one of them…Really?🤪
I was surprised to find out that this was actually quite a charming story. I would describe it as a story about different people with different beliefs, traumas and stubbornness brought together against their will but who unwittingly and grumpily start to heal each other’s sadness and inner wounds.🙂
It had some really funny moments when Uryu first arrived and was accidentally perceived as quite the pervert…Poor boy but so funny!😂
The only eyebrow-rising thing is that this manga is quite obviously drawn by a man because the oldest sister is quite well-equipped and is at times drawn too provokingly.🥸
Teen orphan gets invited to live in a shrine so he can attend a private school. The catch? He has to marry one of three sisters. This had cute moments but I didn't get a lot of the humor.
This harem shoujo follows a young atheist (17) who dreams of being a doctor, but finds his plans for the future in a mess when he's taken in by a shrine priest on the condition that he pursue and marry one of his three granddaughters. Finding his beliefs and heart tested, Kamihate has no idea how he's going to survive to get into Kyoto University with three beautiful girls tormenting him.
I ended up not liking this much. There are some funny moments, but to me, the characters felt flat and the sisters didn't seem to have much competition. The youngest sister (14) is a sporty menace, but I felt her age to be much too young for me to be comfortable with. Right now, Kamihate's scenes with her are a bit uncomfortable. The oldest sister (20) is a spacey ditz who loves art and of course, has a huge chest. On the other hand, she felt too old and very fanservice-y. The clearly viable choice is the middle sister (17) who's the aggressive tsundere, but inside cares about her sister and grows to admire the main character. If he doesn't end up with her, I'll eat my hat, which made the other interactions with the sisters fall flat.
If he ends up with all three of them, I'll eat my hat, but for different reasons. If the sisters had been closer in age (maybe 16, 17, and 19, for example), I would have enjoyed this book a lot more for just the illusion of choice. I won't be continuing with this series, mostly because I can tell where it's going, and if it tries to go with a different option to subvert expectations I'll be disappointed anyways.
It's a cute read, but I had a feeling that male population would enjoy this more. Since the main guy character constantly ends up getting his face into girls boobs or grabbing them. Nice story, but overall not my cup of tea.
The first chapter I wasn't too sure how I felt about it. Surprisingly by the end of volume 1 it had hooked my attention and wanting to know what happens next. I really loved some of the art at times but there are parts it was pretty normal. It did take alittle bit before we get Uryu and the sisters names. It was funny how at first Uryu kept getting salt thrown at him by Yuna.
Uryu is told he has a new guardian and will be boarding at a shrine. When he arrives he discovers he will be living with the Amagashi sisters (Yae,Asahi, and Yuna). Once gramps gets back, Uryu learns he also has to marry on of the three of them. Unfortunately, he doesn't want to but eventually goes along with it so he isn't thrown out and he can continue his goal to get into Kyoko University of medicine. Uryu goes on individual marriage interviews with the sisters and learns more about them (they too learn more about him earlier on in the volume). Volume 1 ends on a cliffhanger on him seeing glimpses of his future.
I’m torn on if I actually liked this one or not. It definitely wasn’t horrible but there were a few scenes that I wasn’t a huge fan of— mainly all of the oversexualized scenes of the youngest sister.
The main character was funny and seemed to not follow her advances which was good— still wish they weren’t included. He has to choose between three very different sisters to marry if he wants to keep his opportunity to go to school to become a doctor.
This did have some funny moments which I wish there had been more of! Especially between him and the sister that was his age. Their almost rivalry was hilarious to read about.
Overall, this wasn’t terrible but I don’t think I’ll be continuing on with the series.
3/5⭐️
The Manga ended with a cliffhanger and I want to know how it goes further. Although I read it in English I understood everthing very good. The story isn't something new but interesting and nice. This was my first Manga in Englisch
I must confess- I'm not a big fan of harem manga, so this was a slog for me personally. I mostly previewed it to see if the fanservice was too much for my school library... and it was just a bit too much wacky accidental touching. A lot of the treatment reminded me of old harem manga from the late 90s and early 00s, and I have to pass on this one. I'm glad Kodansha has many more interesting titles coming out this year.
The ecchi in the manga was to be expected. I mean the blurb says Kamihate is going to live with three beautiful girls and has to marry one of them. So yeah, at this point, it just made me laugh that in not even 30 pages, he has been accidently in awkward pervert position with each of the sisters.
The story line kind of remind me of The Quintessential Quintuplets in that, we know he is going to marry one of the sisters but we don’t know which one. But here, the protagonist is not very likeable. He is not bad either but I’m just not feeling it with him. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll continue, we’ll see. I think improvements can be made.
I recommend it to people who don’t mind a bit of ecchi and romance in a shonen
