Falling Drowning starts off unassuming as a romantic high school comedy complete with a love triangle but we quickly relaise there are more angsty elements at play. A love triangle involving childhood friends, amnesia and *spoiler* potentially murder?
Inari's high school drama combines the innocence and sweetness of high school romance with a compelling suspense theme and two ships that have their own attractive qualities.
A great series and one that will be great to follow into volume 2
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for providing me with an eArc of this book.
I love the art style and the clashing of two different people but this volume left me with a lot of questions that hopefully will be answered in the next volume. Looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoyed reading this manga. The opposite personalities of each character are well represented in this story, and it makes me enjoy each one. Even if one of them seems to be grumphy, I like it. And the mistery behind the amnesia got me intrigued
Can't wait to read volume two.
This was a bit of a mysterious read for me and I feel that the second volume will explain more of the mechanics of the story and overall storyline.
I loved how that this is more than just a shoujo romance manga. It goes deeper into the perspectives of each chraracter and the questions that they have with themselves. The inner-struggles and how it goes deeper into each characters, and the fact that they are all childhood friends make it pretty intriguing to finish what the mangaka had started. The start is definitely quite slow, but I assure you as you go through towards the end, it makes not a bad read overall.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC to review
I'm genuinely not sure on how I feel about this manga and I know for definite that I need to read volume two to get more of an idea as to what is going on as there are a few mysteries to be solved. The art is nice and while I am not fond of love triangles or one of the interests, I still kept reading as I was intrigued!
This manga tells a story about how it feels to fall in love for the first time.
After missing the first few weeks of her second year of high school, she comes to school with rumors of her dating her childhood friend, Toma. She begins to question how loved feels and explores her possible feelings towards Toma. However, a new student transferred into the school, an old acquaintance of Toma, that confuses Honatsu of her feelings some more.
Being a teenager once, I can very much relate to how Honatsu feels. It’s spring. It’s a start of a new school year. After summer break, you haven’t seen a lot of your classmates and you’re excited to see what the new school year brings!
This book was fun and relatable, Makes me wish I was young again and feel what it is like to fall in love again. Looking forward to reading more of the story!
Also, PLOT TWIST! I just need to know!!!
“If it’s “Maybe” and “I Think” right now… Then it’s not love.
Then what do you think, Tachibana-Kun? How do you think love start…?! …ing Huh? Falling.”
So adorable^
Honatsu questions what is love. Is her childhood relationship with Toma, love? And then Tachibana-Kun is a new student and she begins to realize what falling means. Twists, and turns, start happening and man, the story gets so much better. A very cute and engaging shojo manga. I definitely want to read the rest!
I am not a fan of love triangles but this was cute and worked well being attracted to two different men please make it a menage, that would be so great.
Falling Drowning Volume 1 was an interesting book, but ultimately it wasn't as memorable as I had hoped. The art was beautiful, and overall it was a fun read.
I struggled to get into the story of this shoujo manga as it's very subdued, full of mystery (which is great) but rather slow-paced (which was a bit of a struggle). The art is gorgeous, with that classic romantic style and gracefully drawn characters. There seems to be a budding love story between multiple characters, but the amnesia storyline and the lack of real depth or background on anyone makes it a bit difficult to root for any real outcome. It's just the start, so perhaps this will flesh out nicely, but for now, it's not one I'd personally be rushing to pick up.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this manga. This was an intriguing story with a love triangle and mysterious element. I love the art and the premise is very unique as far as that mystery. However, I really think if you're not a fan of love triangles, you're not going to like this because that is all that it presented to the readers. I think it could have been better with more flushed out development and plot... but I am intrigued by the story. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3-3.5 out of 5 stars
I was a little confused throughout the story but it still left me wanting more. I was expecting it to be a light romance story, however it surprised me with the amount of mystery. I've never been a fan of the memory loss trope and despite not loving the trope in this story either, I do really want to read Vol. 2
Not really sure what I think of this because I don't have a clue what is actually going on. There's maybe a love triangle, and a girl with amnesia and people who know more than they are willing to admit but then, like, NOTHING happens to anyone and nothing moves forward until literally the last page? Ay!
A great start to a new series. I like the mystery wrapped up in the MC’s past and the hints of an impending love triangle. It will definitely be a good one because I like that her feelings are underdeveloped for either guy. She’ll be able to grow and figure out what her heart wants! This is going to be a series to watch!
Is it life of life, romance, dark mysterious past? I NEED TO KNOW. This story has it all and more.
On the surface it seems to be a story about a sweet budding romance between childhood friends. But a rivalry starts to bubble on the surface between two character, as our female lead starts crossing paths with someone else. Someone that seems to know a part of her she isn't so sure about. And her child hood love interest? Well he starts acting not so sweet, telling the new guys to stay away. Some pieces of the puzzle and someone's memory seem to be missing.
Have some ideas about where things may lead, but definitely would read more to find out.
**Thank you to Kodansha and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
how can you leave me with such a plot holder? what happens in the past? what will happen next?? I need answers!! I kinda like the memory loss trope here and i want to see how it will the story progresses. Also, can it be the love triangle easily solved? and why so much secret? i need to know!! Love the art and the MC and how she builds these relationships

I'm going to be honest, it took me a few tries to get through this manga. It's a very slow moving, suspenseful shoujo with what seems to be budding love-triangle and heavy play on memory loss mystery. While the art is gorgeous, I found the characters pretty one-note and not very interesting. The story is intriguing on the surface but I found myself quickly breezing through it to get to the plot points and avoid the snails pace dialogue.
In the author notes at the beginning of each chapter, Inari mentions that this story began as a "suspense ensemble drama" but that she had to change it after the departure of her original editor and reworked it as a shoujo. To be honest, I would have preferred to read it as that version as this "is it a love-triangle or isn't it?" actually detracts from the story, especially as it sets the foundation in this first volume.
I SWEAR TO GOD, KODANSHA AND THEIR COMICS NEVER FAIL TO AMAZE ME. If not Kodansha and Net Galley I don't know if i would have ever started reading mangas, I've always thought about it, but never tried it and I'm so so excited every time I see something new in their sections.
This story was so well written, I loved that main character had amnesia when she was little, it really added some kind of mystery to the story. When the guys started talking "You're right, she doesn't remember anything", I started thinking what is the real backstory of all these characters, I'm really curious how will the love triangle look in the volume 2, I have hate love relationship with love triangles, I can never choose myself which one I prefer and the jumping from one guy to another is really getting on my nerves (not in a bad way), why do both guys have to be so good looking and different.
I'm really hooked and I can't wait to try other volumes as well. I really hope she regains her memory back.
Thanks Kodansha and NetGalley for giving me an obline copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, wasn't expecting some deeper and dark mystery in this romance manga. It came off as a typical shojo romance but there are some hidden past and dark secret that are unravelling slowly. Honatsu, our female lead seems to have lost her memories after an accident and she lives her life with her childhood friends, Touma and Akine. A transfer student, the grumpy Shun seems to be hiding something and there are things that slowly being revealed as we go far into the story.
I love romance that explored the ideas of love, trying to understand the feelimg of love, the slow build up. This manga show that through the amazing and gorgeous artstyle plus the metaphors and symbolism.
There are gists of whats happening regarding the accident and it seems far more complex than simple accidents so im curious of whats going to happen next.
4.5 stars
Interesting high school romance plot with a dark past? I’m so hooked! Really feeling second lead syndrome at the moment: I feel very bad for her that she doesn’t remember anything. Maybe she’ll regain some memories? We shall see! Excited for volume 2!
