It made me smile, wish I could be owned by a kitten too, and loved it. It's a series of sweet short stories, perfect for cat lovers.

Read this one twice because it's super adorable!

Sue & Tai-chan is a story about Sue, a gentle senior cat who lives a calm life where she can laze around all day. One day, her owner brought back a kitten named Tai-chan, taking care of the little guy temporarily for a friend. Tai-chan is a very energetic and curious kitten, eager to plant his nose into anything he finds. This disrupts Sue's calm daily life because Tai-chan has unlimited energy and demands her to play with her every time.

This story is told in short chapters, each of it showing how Sue handles the curious Tai-chan. From calming him down when arriving to a new place, to teaching him how to do potty in his own little box, to playing around and being chased by the young one around the house, getting into trouble together.

I love that despite Sue getting tired easily due to her age, and wants more than nothing to nap all day, when Tai-chan is not in front of her, she worries about him a lot. It's basically a story of how the senior cat adopts in the energetic kitten.

Their dynamic is so lovely to read, and their conversations in "meows" are so funny as well. The creator made a wonderful job depicting how cats act, and the chaoticness is definitely . I'm looking forward to more adventures from these two adorable cats!

Young fans of Konami Kanata's Chi Sweet Home series have two more adorable cats to enjoy. Sue & Tai-chan give readers a taste of the antics of a kitten and grumpy older cat. This is another good option for growing readers that are ready to take a dive into the world of manga without having to switch reading directions.

A fun and heartwarming story between an old house cat and mischievous kitten! The plot consisted of mini-adventures of the two cats in their everyday lives. What made this so enjoyable was how the author perfectly captured the nature and mannerisms of the cats. I'm sure readers will definitely like this one despite not having a cat as their pet.

The illustration suits the cuteness of the story as well. I cannot wait to read more of Sue and Tai-chan's shenanigans!

Sue & Tai-chan 1 by Konami Kanata - 4 stars

This adorable, slice-of-life cat manga is from the creator of popular cat-based adventure Chi's Sweet Home, which one of my own cats is named after! So I was excited to read this new manga from Konami Kanata.

Bits I liked:
- sweet, gentle story of a kitten disrupting the daily life of an elderly cat and her owner
- beautiful full-colour drawings with Konami Kanata's distinctive cat character designs
- funny moments that will be recognisable to most cat owners!
- interesting extras at the back for a good overview of similar available content

Bits I liked less:
- it felt a little disjointed at some points, but I think that's because it's been a while since I read this kind of content; I'm used to strong storylines with pace, whereas this is more about moments in time
- found it unusual to read a manga left-to-right; I prefer a native format

Overall it's a lovely read that is easy to get through quickly, as it's more about the art than any text, and would suit younger readers as well as someone looking for a gentle, heart-warming read about cats. I just wish my own cats would get along as well as Sue & Tai-chan!

Everyone knows that cats and manga are basically created for eachother, so I certainly can't say no to a cat-themed manga. And this has cuteness coming out of its ears, and that's fine, but I just didn't really connect with the art style, and that's about 75% of a cat-manga.

Middle-of-the-road cute, is that a thing?

I unfortunately was not able to review this title because it got archived the same day that I was approved for it - however I own and love Chi’s Sweet Home so I will definitely be checking the final copy of this out!

Sue and Tai-Chan is the charming first volume of the adventures of Sue a seventeen-year-old cat, and Tai-Chan, a tiny black kitten. Natsuki, Sue’s ‘human’ is handed a box with Tai-Chan a little kitten to look after. He tries to refuse, saying he has a cat already but the giver (whom we don’t see) doesn’t listen to any excuses. And with that Tai-Chan arrives in their home. Sue is seventeen and like any senior cat wants to spend much of her time sleeping while Tai-Chan is small and like any kitten playful and inquisitive. Sue isn’t bad natured but obviously initially a little annoyed by his presence. But in a little while she soon starts to become accustomed to him and his ways—his wanting to play all the time—and begins to look after him and make sure he doesn’t land in too much trouble. In the manga, we follow a set of their every day adventures, as Tai-Chan explores his new surroundings and is curious about everything he sees around him, while Sue struggles to keep up with the little fellow.

This was a very sweet and light read, which highlight small snapshots of every day life, with no major drama but little adventures—from Tai-Chan exploring and attempting to understand his new home and surroundings, what his litter box is for, what he can eat and not eat, not to make too much racket at night, and even what a watermelon is. Sue is of course not as energetic, but she is good natured and mostly gives in to Tai-Chan’s demands to play, and often takes care of him—giving him a clean when needed and making sure he is safe when he vanishes from sight. Both cats are loveable and endearing. Natsuki appears off and on, but the focus of our story is the two cats and their relationship.

One can see from the story that the author knows her cats, and captures their natures and mannerisms really well—from Sue not wanting to move too much because she is an older cat, to Tai-Chan’s boundless energy, endless curiosity, and penchant for trouble—all perfectly done. Also things like Tai-Chan being more interested in Sue’s food than his own (that’s nothing to do with age, though!).

This one ended on a cliff-hanger of sorts (one knows what is going to happen but what that will lead to is to be seen—all fun, I think in keeping with the tone of the series) but one that made me want to run and pick up the second volume unlike my usual reaction to cliff-hangers.

This is a manga that any cat-lover would adore, and really one anyone can pick up for a delightful look into everyday life—with no drama or such—just small bits of fun!

Oh and unlike some other mangas I’ve read, this one can be read in the ordinary way—left to right. It also has some info like the use of honorifics in Japan/Japanese.

Cats are my favorite animal, by far. I have four myself and would pretty much do anything for them. So when I saw this cute cover on Netgalley, I knew I wanted to request it. Especially since it reminded me that graphic novels can be really enjoyable! They're quick to read and give you just the right amount of cuteness in your day.

Overall, in Sue & Tai-chan, you will meet two cats, Sue, an old cat who just wants to nap all day and a new unexpected addition to the family : Tai-chan, the kitten full of life, full of energy who just wants to play with everything at any time of the day. We'll see how the two opposites get along eventually and it was pretty sweet to be honest.

I'm definitely looking forward to more graphic novels in my future!

Sue & Tai-chan is definitely a story that's worth checking out if you are a major cat-lover. I think that it is very well done for what it is. It's a sweet, light read and is of course very, very cute. The story follows the adventures of Sue, an old cat that's set in her ways, and the new kitten that has entered her world. Is the kitten a blessing or a curse?

Sue & Tai-chan delivers exactly what you'd expect from it. The stories are fun, humorous, and full of cats! What's not to like? If you are a cat person and are looking for a fun read, then this is a must for you. I can't imagine anyone really disliking this series unless they just were somehow not aware of what they were getting themselves into. Sue & Tai-chan isn't complicated and fulfills its promise to the reader perfectly.

Really cute book, not much of a story but great if you love cats and cuteness. I would say this is more of a kid's book than an adult's.

Aw, this is the best comic I have ever read and this one is sooo cute! Sue is a senior cat, at 17 years old, and wants nothing more than to live a peaceful life and have lots of naps. But when her owner Natsuki suddenly finds himself with a kitten on his hands, Sue’s life is turned upside down. This book is filled with lots of short stories of the adventures of Sue and Tai-chan and is the first in a series.

I love cats so anything cat related is always appealing to me and I just love how wonderful this comic is and how funny and clever it is when covering cat behaviour! When Tai-chan arrives, he’s a ball of energy, wanting to play with Sue and explore everything. Sue isn’t sure abour the new kitten though and isn’t happy to be disturbed when trying to take a nap. But over the course of the comic and several mini adventures, there are wonderful moments where you see Sue beginning to like and accept the kitten more and more.

The illustrations are amazing, I love the comic style and the way the cats look. Their speech bubbles always saw a version of ‘Meow’, but there is some additional text alongside the speech bubble that lets you know what the cats are actually saying to each other. Most of the comic is visual though and I love how the story is easily shown through just the pictures and scenes of the two cats and their owner. Each short chapter contains one adventure, for example an adventure about the litter box, cats at midnight and cats trying to open doors. Each story is a satisfying tale in itself and the whole comic book is so fun to read, seeing how Sue gets more used to the kitten and how they have some heart-warming moments despite the silly stuff Tai-chan gets up to.

The illustration style as I said is amazing, the cats really do look good. Of course there are funny expressions that the characters have and I love how there are different illustrations of cats in different positions, such as a view from the back of a cat, or Sue in a loaf position. All of the images are colourful and I just love how good everything looks. Overall this is one comic I wish I could continue the series of. I’m definitely going to look into buying more of this series as I really want to find out what happens to Sue and Tai-chan. The situations and the way the cats respond is just like cats in real life and I just love this comic so much! It’s definitely one I’d recommend to everyone, especially those who likes cats! :)

I absolutely loved this first volume and as a cat owner myself, I could see my two furbabies represented through Sue and Tai. I'm so excited to read the other volumes because the hold this had on me was unreal.

This was a cute collection of cat comics! It had a sweet relationship between the cats, the older teacher cat and the baby student kitten, like that scene in Spiderman Into the Spiderverse where they're swinging through the trees.

This was sooo cute I love it
Sue-Chan is a 17 year old cat, she loves to sleep all day but one day her owner is forced to take in a kitten, Tai-Chan,who doesn't want to sleep all day. Because Tai-Chan is young.

So this volume is about that. Really, the whole book is ways that Tai-Chan tries to get Sue-chan to play when she wants to sleep.

It is cute The art was also clear and easy to see, I enjoyed the relationship between the two cats and with their owner!

The whole book isn’t exactly one story but a series of mini misadventures the two cats. If you are cat person then you definitely need to read this book. It's wholesome

This was a cute read!

I feel in many ways this is a classic "kid-friendly" manga that I see recommended in manga circles often. I'm thankful to finally have read it and experience these two cats for myself!

I would not say it's my favorite cat manga I've read, but I did feel bad for Sue-chan at the beginning and loved her interactions with Tai-chan. There interactions were at times very cute and sometimes very funny, making this a fun and easy-going story to read.

I would definitely recommend this to those who are looking for a kid-friendly manga and those who want a light-hearted story centered around cats.

The book has everything a cat lover would want. It’s a collection of slice-of-life incidents as the senior cat, Sue, has to babysit Tai-chan, a curious little kitten. Someone gives Natsuki Tai-chan for a few weeks, and he hands over the kitten to his aging cat Sue. Tai-chan makes Sue run around the house when all she wants to do is sleep. Tai-chan finds his friend, guide, and family in Sue.
Isn’t the concept beautiful? The illustrations, text size, and layout are neat and appealing. The dialogues are to the point and easy for kids to read. Another bonus is the different types of meows and mews cats use to express themselves.

To sum up, Sue & Tai-chan is a sweet, cute, adorable, and lovely collection of teeny misadventures in Natsuki’s house.
