Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this book.

I struggled a little with this one. As before in the first book, it felt like I was reading a dream- almost too fast paced with a LOT going on. Overall, its an interesting story but does take some getting used to!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I enjoyed this book, the plot was fast paced and the characters were likeable. It did introduce me to a new book series though, because when I first started this book I had no idea that it was the second book.

Cara, a daughter of witches who struggles with her lineage and the powers that have come with it. Sh read a book that sheds light on troubling dreams and puts a dangerous quest in motion. Cara is a time walker, suspended between the world of living and the dead. She watches the man she loves bargaining with beings to save her and her soul from a spell by gods and goddesses. She is caught in a web of spells, witches, mythical creatures besides volatile gods who threaten her daily besides making her sense of existence is.

I had to tell you that this a second book of “Ancient Dreams” which gave me some difficulty reading the book. I actually went and read/skimmed the first book of the series. It’s easier to understand Cara’s journey in the second book. The author wrote an excellent fantasy novel. The female characters are compelling. It is a tragic love story too.

I received an arc of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. This was a new to me author and I realized that Blood and Shadows is actually book two in a series. You definitely need to read Ancient Dreams first to understand the story! I devoured Ancient Dreams and was so sucked into the world that J.P. Roth weaved that I could not wait to jump into book two Blood and Shadows.

Cara Wynter read a book that told her stories of another place, a forgotten time. As she read, she remembered the man she loved—the dark stranger in her dreams, re-lived her own death in his arms. Now, he is in front of her, wanting her, loving her, desperate to save her, even from herself.

Wow, I am literally speechless there is so much happening as we continue to follow Cara and her twin Lily as they embark on an adventure that takes them to from Hades to Transylvania. The imagery and descriptive writing is done so well that it will have you completely sucked in. If you love a story with duel time lines, magic, vengeful gods and goddesses, strong familial bonds, and a tragic love this is for you. The ending was wonderfully done and left me wanting more. I can't wait for book three!

This books destroyed me. Please go read it.

You absolutely need to read book one first. I almost didn't, and thank God I didn't make that mistake because some major revelations would have been lost on me.

Never in my life has page one of a book made me scream. Until now. There were so many shocking twists throughout, and the final page left my fragile mortal heart in pieces.

What you have to look forward to:

✅ A modern day Greek tragedy.
✅ A love that transcends time and space.
✅ A strong sisterly bond.
✅ A spooky castle in Transylvania and a trip to the Underworld.
✅ The addition of some awesome new characters and supernatural creatures.
✅ And of course, vengeful Gods and Goddesses.

It is so much better than book one! I am desperate for book three!

This is richly written with tons of depth, world building and rich characters. There is a high pace, and the writing flows well. Tension flows right away, and it's obvious that there are twists and turns, and all sorts of sub-plots and goodness.
Still, I couldn't get into it and ended up laying it down after a few chapters. Firstly, I believe it was a mistake to hit this one without reading the first book in the series, since there were many characters immediately and I simply was confused, especially with everything going on. So, start with book one before diving into book two.
Otherwise, it appears to be a very well-done, rich read. It just wasn't for me. So, I'm giving it 3-stars, since I have no doubt that the right readers will love this one.
