An excellent narration of an old classic! I recommend this to anyone wanting to listen to Pride and Prejudice. Thank you for the opportunity to listen!
I love Pride and Prejudice (my favorite novel) and I really loved this narration, so it’s the stars for this edition!
This was not my first time reading or even listening to Pride and Prejudice, but I found this version so enjoyable. The narration is beautifully done and gives the story a bit of an updated feel while staying true to the original text and tone. I will be recommending this narration to friends and family.
I'll skip reviewing Pride and Prejudice itself because it's been done before and by far better reviewers than me. Instead, I'll focus on the audiobook.
Having read Pride and Prejudice before (and seen the Keira Knightley movie many times), I was very familiar with the story and was eager to listen to it performed by a Bridgerton star. It just seemed like a match made in heaven. Adjoa Andoh completely nailed Mrs. Bennett (to the point of annoyance) and Mr. Collins (perfectly aggravating). Kudos should also go to her sweetness of Jane and brattiness of Lydia. Spot on.
Credit should also be given to Andoh for her acting ability to really immerse the listener into the story, from the over-the-top antics of Mrs. Bennett to Elizabeth rushing to her father and speaking breathlessly. This is often an aspect of audiobooks that are overlooked by narrators and I really appreciate Andoh's acting it out.
Where Andoh falls short, however, are the two characters that needed to shine the most: Elizabeth and Darcy. Her voices for both were nearly identical and made it incredibly hard to determine who was saying what. Also odd was the tone of voice Andoh chose for Elizabeth: it had an intonation and rasp to it that made Elizabeth come across far older than she actually is.
As for the production of the audiobook, I found it strange that Andoh's breaths were kept in and that her narration often felt like her breathing couldn't keep up with her pace of reading.
Overall, it was nice to experience Pride and Prejudice as an audiobook, but this was not a narration that lived up to source material.
"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austin narrated by Anjoa Andoh was a good listen. This classic story is always a delight and the narration brings it to life. You can picture the characters and by the intonations of her voice. Mrs. Bennet really shines through as she speaks at a higher pitch, a bit faster and sounds just as she should. A really good listen.
The narration of this audiobook did a superb job at doing the novel justice. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and would totally recommend.
A great narration of the beloved classic! There are so many audiobooks of Pride and Prejudice but the only two I've found to be listenable is this and the audible original with Laura Dern. This was simply a delight!
Thank you to netgalley for allowing me to be a member and to give helpful feedback. Thank you to the publisher and author for accepting me to read this book, It is greatly appreciated.
The audio narrator was a great suit to the book but I think the book was the first time I had read it so I think overall although it is very old it is kind of boring but I liked her vocal expressions and I liked to listen to the audiobook on 2X speed. Usually, I don't like historical books but as I saw this is a classic book and I am progressing through classic books I requested this audiobook, unfortunately, this was not really my cup of tea from the toxic masculinity, possessive males and the boatload of judgment/gossiping from the smallest things. I understand this is usual for historical books but I was recommended this book and unfortunately was disappointed. the word conjecture is way overused too.
Cute romance I liked the ending tho.
I would read another book from this narrator again I loved the voices and vocal effects in the audiobook.
I have read Pride and Prejudice countless times, and I'm a big fan of the Audible audiobook narrated by Rosamund Pike. However, this audiobook version may be the best yet! Adjoa Andoh (who I recognized from Bridgerton) did a phenomenal job narrating the many different voices. She also captured the sarcasm and humor of the book so perfectly that there were a few times when I wondered if she was reading the original version of P&P. Let me say that again: Her narration was so good that I legitimately wondered if I was listening to a new version of P&P. Basically, run, don't walk, to get your paws on a copy of this audiobook!
My only critique is that the chapter changes happened a little fast for my taste. I wish there'd been a slight pause between the last sentence of the previous chapter and Andoh announcing the next chapter. This is probably an editing issue more than a critique of Andoh.

I received a digital copy of this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have read and listened to pride and prejudice at least 100 times. So obviously I love the story as so many do therefore my review is a reflection of the audiobook performance.
I think an introduction to the style of reading and the dialects employed would be very appropriate in this case. As an American from the mid west my ears are used to hearing a straight read with an upper crust accent of English lit or if voice acting is done I’m used to hearing uniformly the higher classes all voiced the same and the common people with different unsophisticated accents. So to me and I would guess many Americans the dialect of speech used by some of our characters were a little surprising but upon googling the dialect of their home regions seemed more appropriate but this is not something many Americans would be aware of without some introduction and therefore may feel not quite correct.
The personality infused into each character was excellent and shown new light on gems of wit and wisdom that had previously been less appreciated by me. Sound quality was very good.
So to summarize this is voice acted by one person and the dialect accents used by various characters may be unfamiliar to American ears. 4.5/5
I don't want to write a review of Pride and Prejudice here because, well, there are enough essays and analyses on that already. Instead, I'm just going to give some brief feedback on this specific audio adaptation.
Even though I'm not much into historical fiction or romance, I enjoyed reading Pride and Prejudice in the past. I am always a little sceptical about audiobooks; what if I don't like the narrator? And although the narrator of this particular edition may be known by some (Adjoa Andoh, from Bridgerton and Doctor Who), I did not know of her before this. Luckily, I found her voice to fit the story very well, and I really enjoyed listening to her tell it. I found this to be quite a relaxing experience, definitely one of the better audiobooks I've listened to. I'm not sure if I *prefer* it to reading the novel myself, but I would definitely recommend this edition to anyone interested in listening to an audio adaptation of Austen's novel. Andoh's emphasis on the correct words, her intonations, just all brought the story and characters to life fantastically. 4.5 stars!
I have been looking for an audiobook for Pride and Prejudice for a while that would hold my attention and Adjoa Andoh's narration is just what I needed! I loved it, they do a wonderful job of narrating the different characters and I truly enjoyed listening to them.
I have not read Pride and Prejudice nor have I listened to any other versions, but know the story from tv/film adaptations. I appreciate how hard it must be to produce something that has been produced many times before (this is not the first audiobook version I have come across) and something that is known and loved by many.
I personally don't think the narrator was the right choice. There are a lot of characters and eventually its hard to differentiate between the voices and lack of accents and its hard to tell who is meant to be speaking.
Gave it 3 stars but have rounded up. Could take or leave the narrator and have not really rated on the actually story as its a classic and not my place to do so!
A classic, Pride and Prejudice is the love story between one of the Bennet sisters and Mr. Darcy. I had read this book once in the past, but listening to the recording is a different experience. The narrator made you feel like you were right their listening to Elizabeth's quick wit when conversing with others, and Jane's sweet nature.
I'd like to say a huge thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
The story was flawless, of course. Wish I could say the same about the narrator. Adjoa Andoh, gifted actor that she is, clearly wasn't a good choice for this book. In many places, I couldn't differentiate between Elizabeth and Darcy's voices. If I hadn't known the dialogues by heart, I'd have been very confused as to who was talking. Same goes for Darcy and Bingley as well.
Also, I don't know much about England but I believe Derbyshire and Hertfordshire are in the south. But Darcy's and Bingley's accents were definitely northern. I don't know why that happened.
2 stars only, sadly.
Thanks to Netgalley and Saga Egmont Audio for the audiobook. The opinions are entirely mine.
I love Pride and Prejudice to the point of obsession and I could go on at length about what an amazing writer Austen was, about how perfectly she creates her characters, how witty her writing is, and how every time I read the book I get a slightly different perspective on each of the personalities.
But I just could not stick with this audiobook because of the narrator. I generally prefer to listen to an audiobook where the narrator has a soft, soothing, easy-listening voice, rather than voice-acting all the parts. Adjoa Andoh does a perfect shrill Mrs Bennet voice and would undoubtedly play the part really well in a TV adaptation, but for an audiobook it was just too much - it was grating to listen to. Even for the younger female characters, they all sounded cynical and sharp, and it just didn't work for me.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.
We all know and love the story of the Bennet sisters, right? I first read the book when I was still living in Poland and I reckon I must have been around 14-15 at a time. I loved it dearly, so much so, that I would re-read the book every couple of months or thereabouts. I was so excited when I saw that NetGalley were offering an audiobook in exchange for a review. I requested it and my request was granted!
This audiobook has transported me back in time to my teenage years, where I would devour this book, sitting crossed legged on my top bunk, totally oblivious to the antics of my little brother, with whom I shared a bedroom.
This is a classic tale which explores the plight of women of that era. Without a man, a woman had no status in society, and the ‘s’ word (spinster) was a nightmare of every young girl and woman.
Mr and Mrs Bennet were blessed with five daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine (or Kitty), and Lydia. Jane, the eldest, was sensible, kind, and beautiful; whereas Elizabeth’s beauty did not match Jane’s, but her intelligence and frankness outwitted them all. Mary, the third daughter was a studious girl, who read a lot, however, her long speeches in the book lacked Elizabeth’s wit. Kitty and Lydia were silly young girls whose only interest were gossiping and flirting with the officers.
This book follows the Bennet family and with the arrival of Mr Bingley, a young and prosperous bachelor, into the area, puts an idea in Mrs Bennet’s mind: one of her daughters must marry him. Mr Bingley arrives with an entourage compromising his two sisters: Miss Bingley, Mrs Hurst accompanied by her husband Mr Hurst, and rich and dashing Mr Darcy.
Jane and Mr Bingley’s acquaintance blossoms, whereas Lizzie’s and Mr Darcy’s dies from the start. Elizabeth overhears him making an unkind remark about her and she immediately finds him proud and unjust. However, little does she know, that as time progresses, Mr Darcy seems to have a partiality towards Lizzie… Will she reciprocate?
Adjoa Andoh beautifully narrates this classic tale, and she puts on amazing voices. My favourite ones were the squeaky tones of Mr Collins, and the loud and abhorrent sounds of Lydia and Mrs Bennet. They made me chuckle a lot.
Overall, it’s a great audiobook and I enjoyed it immensely.
I definitely recommend it.
Thanks to Saga Egmont Audio for approving my NetGalley request to listen and review this wonderful audiobook.
The classic tale of the Bennet sisters and their journey to marry well. The smart and spirited Elizabeth Bennet who, despite pressure from her family, is determined to live and marry on her own terms. Wit and personality shine in this delightful tale.
This is one of my favorite books, and this was my first time listening to an audio version. I wasn’t sure who Adjoa Andoh was when I first read her name. I only recognized her when I looked her up online and then I recognized her from her role on Dr. Who. She had a very expressive voice, which is well suited to audiobook narration. I loved how she changed accents and tones for each character, and she really made the story come alive.
There was only one nit-pick that I had. The chapters ended abruptly. It seemed as though there was barely a second between the last second and then the next chapter.
Readers who love Jane Austen will want to listen to this fantastic edition.
Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favourite books and I loved experiencing it for the first time again via audio! Hearing the wit of the characters aloud definitely enhances how much I love this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Saga Egmont Audio for audio edition of Pride and Prejudice, in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say - this is one of the greatest love stories of all time and many already know this iconic book. And listening to Adjoa Andoh voice was a treat. Her voice was like a magical setting from HP and Bridgerton world. A beautiful mix. Thank you :)
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
