The only thing that would have made me enjoy this book more would be if it came with a plane ticket. I can't wait to get back to Scotland to see Edinburgh from this perspective.
A clearly presented set of 20 walks to help you explore Edinburgh and its interesting history. Definitely worth having in your pocket if you are planning a visit to the area.
I have visited Edinburgh many times, mainly for work, but occasionally for pleasure, but I definitely don’t know the city well. So I found this book very informative and fascinating in equal parts.
I’m definitely going to take a copy with me the next time I visit so that I can explore at least a couple of these hidden walks and see in person the delights they have to offer, and I’ll be sure to take my camera with me too.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.
An interesting set of walks I look forward to trying out as we travel around. Very informative. The format on kindle isn’t very good. Would definitely recommend a paperback which I think I’ll look to put Hess so I don’t get lost
Like the other books in the Hidden Walks series by the A to Z group, this book includes maps and informative descriptions of walks in urban areas, perfect for discovering new and old places.
Many traditional walking areas like the Peak District, the Lakes, Pembrokeshire, all have many many hiking guide books, but there are precious few urban ones. This is a shame - and I’m happy to see up to date, informative walks from a trustworthy brand now on the shelf. Buy it for your next city break, and take a break from the crowds and see something new.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Great book detailing 20 walks in Ediburgh and the surrounding area. I live in Edinburgh and could follow the detailed instructions for some of the walks in my head as I know the areas well. I think I will use some of the walks to explore areas of Edinburgh I don't know as well. I gave the book 4 stars as it would have been lovely to feature a walk along the southern section Water of Leith to take in Colinton and Juniper Green, including the recently completed mural in Colinton tunnel or possibly an easily accessible walk in the Pentlands giving tourists an option for a walk outside the city environment (although a walk around Arthur's Seat is included in the book).
A very interesting book and it pointed out parts of Edinburgh I never knew about even though I've past some of the places mentioned many a time! Good for both locals and tourists.
Such wonderful hidden walks I am looking forward to exploring thanks to this book. The kindle edition has slightly dodgy formatting, therefore I would recommend the paperback. Nevertheless I cannot wait for my next weekend off to plan a walking trip. A very well written and informative guide. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Made me wish I was there. A lot of details, clear explanations, interesting places.
I discovered some places in Edinburgh I would love to visit
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I thought I knew Edinburgh well but not as well as this author. I will be travelling to Scotland's capital a few times this year and I will be taking this very useful book with me. I hopefully will discover more reasons to love Edinburgh. A great series of was featured.
