The only thing that would have made me enjoy this book more would be if it came with a plane ticket. I can't wait to get back to the UK to see York from this perspective.

As a semi regular visitor to York I thought I'd give this a go and was pleasantly surprised as it took me to places a little off the beaten track. As a result it really enhanced this year's visit and showed me a different side to this great city.

York is definitely a city best explored on foot, so this is a handy guide for those wanting to get to grips with the city and its surrounding area, providing some fascinating glimpses into this historic city.

I think this was good as an introduction to York.

As someone who has lived in an around York for many years, I think there were some hidden gems missed off some of the central York walks, like the Norman house for example, or just some of the notable buildings or places of interest, but it was good to read about the walks available in the wider area, outside of the inner ringroad.

Most people visit York to stay in the centre and see the main sights, so this is useful for those who want to see a little bit more than that, but is probably not of much use to locals.

I love visiting York and cannot wait to go back and explore some more with this book in hand! Gloriously photographed with many different routes around the city and surrounding areas, this book has plenty to offer.

I think the walks look well-planned and clearly explained. They are accompanied by the A-Z style maps which many walkers will already be familiar with - lots to explore! It's time to travel and don't forget to pack this book.

An interesting set of walks I look forward to trying out as we travel around. Very informative. The format on kindle isn’t very good. Would definitely recommend a paperback which I think I’ll look to put Hess so I don’t get lost

Having already reviewed the Bath and Bristol book of the same series I was pleased to be offered the York book from NetGalley. Once again, it’s a good guide to getting out and seeing one of our cities. Nicely done.

I love walking round cities and in London often go on escorted tours so I was very keen on the idea of a self guided tour of York. Particularly as I hadn't been there for years.

There was a major issue with the PDF download be it on my phone or a Kindle fire in not being able to zoom in and out of the maps.

I had this problem with a London Hidden Walks Kindle preview edition and found you can write down the directions in advance. The directions were excellent and there are lots of wonderful snippets and pieces of history.

For this book it has been more about reading the narrative and deciding which of the walks I am going to do when I am in York.

I particularly like the idea of the 'West of the River Ouse' walk. Totally unexpected but interesting was the idea of walk ten, looking at traditional and modern architecture on the university campuses.

I'd heartily recommend this as a book and will be buying a hard copy

For anyone on a budget visit to york then this book is perfect for you. A detailed description of walks you can go on. Clear descriptions and details. I personally would like to have seen clearer maps but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an arc

I'm from York, I've always found it a walkable city with lots to discover - so was keen to read this book for more ideas.
There's a really good choice of walks here - and things to spot and learn about along the way. Next time we're back I will definitely refer to this as often I'll walk in these areas without having a bit of background about the area - I'm a great believer in experiencing and seeing history rather than just being taught.
The information for each walk is really clear - including areas which could be inaccessible when the floods happen which is very useful.
I can't wait to try out some of the walks now!

Made me wish I was there. A lot of details, clear explanations, interesting places.
It will surely be one of the guide I will use when visiting York.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I love not too far from York and regularly do my shopping there but had not heard of some of the places in this book. We love a good walk and that's just what this book is going to give us. Can't wait to get my Ealing shoes on .

I haven't been to York for ages and this book has made me want to go back. The book is well laid out with clear descriptions, handy maps and tantalising photos of the sights you might see along each route. The only thing I felt was missing was a larger map of the area, showing where each walk is in relation to the others, and perhaps suggestions for combining two or three routes into a larger walk.

Perfect book for me as York a very regular haunt of mine and the delightful walks described have opened up a whole new view of the city to me.
If you either live near or are planning a visit this little book is a must. Good descriptions and a variety of levels of length etc.
