This is a love story told from the alternative viewpoints of Pippa and Steve. It is well written but I didn't feel particularly emotionally invested in either character. There is drama and some amusing moments. Using two narrators was a brill idea. They embodied both characters well, and I really liked their voice which made it easy to listen to.

"Whir. Beep. Click. Breath." Pippa is in a coma following on from a tragic accident. Steve, the love of her life, sits at her bedside and spends the next 12 hours outlining his love for her. Unfortunately, he might just be too late.

I wanted to love this book but it fell a bit flat for me. The alternating narrators were a nice touch considering the story was told from dual perspectives, and I liked that the story began basically at the end, however it felt a bit disjointed at times. I also found the story a bit slow to get into. I'm not sure I would've finished it if I'd been reading the physical book as opposed to listening to it.

I didn't find myself particularly drawn to either character and I found myself underwhelmed by their love story. I really struggle with romances where I find one partner to be selfish, whilst the other one is completely devoted, and that was case for me here.

I'm typically someone who gets very emotionally involved when reading but this book felt too understated for that. I expected it to be both sweeter and more heartbreaking.

Great production, and narrators - I think it’s by the authors. I’m still not sure whether or not I liked this. Romantic and heartbreaking. I did like Steve and I rooted for him. Pippa was pretty self centred. I’m honestly not sure what to make of the ending.

This story follows of Pip and Steve, their life together up until the moment Pip ends up in a coma.
It was a reasonably slow burn to start with, but picked up towards the end of the allotted 12 hours, right up to the end.
An enjoyable listen.

This is a love story about Pippa and Steve, who are soulmates. Pippa has an accident and she ends up in hospital, unconscious. Steve sits by her bedside for 12 hours, talking to her and willing her to come back to him. The love between them is magical and amazing. Will Steve be able to get Pippa to wake up?

The whole story is beautiful, moving, heartbreaking and heartwarming, and it was just so lovely.

The audiobook narrators brought the story to life, and I liked how the story went back and forward, to the past, and to the present time.

This is a very enjoyable story, which I loved.

I really did enjoy listening to this, the narration was amazing. The story itself was really heartwarming and heartbreaking. My review has spoilers!

However, I think this was not something I needed right now, considering how low I already felt. My review might be biased because of that. The whole time I just kept thinking, "God can they catch a break?" It was just one struggle after another and in the end when all of it came down to a simple misunderstanding, a misunderstanding that was born because of the insecurities Pippa had; I thought that would be my last strand. But NO, Pippa just HAD to forget Steve.

Everything leading up to that point, I was hoping she'd wake up and they would sort everything out, I just hoped she would not die with her thinking Steve cheated on her. But holy shit, the ending was far worse. I mean they've been through enough!

One thing that bothered me was Pippa and Steve being fixated on Pippa getting pregnant, and that being their ONLY chance at having a baby. Considering this was set in 2019, I believe that was a little off-putting for me.

Overall, I would have enjoyed this book way more than I did, had I been in a better place. It's definitely worth a read for everyone into this genre.

Extremely entertaining and fast-paced. Felt like watching a feel-good - although sad and moving at times - movie. Lots of laughter, as well as tears, and the narration and voice cast were brilliant. It was like listening to a really well-acted stage play.

Not your typical romance. A story told alternating between past and present, telling the story of Pip and Steve building their lives together until Pip ends up in a coma.
You cannot help but love all the characters, they make you laugh, cry and just fill your heart with so many emotions. The book explores the beautiful, messy chaos that is falling in and staying in love.
A truly raw, honest and beautiful, they go through so many trails that real couples go through; loss, jealousy and the torture of trying for a child unsuccessfully. So many couples will feel such a connection to Pip and Steve, which is what makes them so loveable.

I cannot end my review without mentioning the narrators, who were the authors themselves who are a married couple. You feel like its friends telling you their story. Two people. One love story. Twelve hours to tell it...

A romance with a difference, this tells the story of Pip and Steve, their life together up until the moment Pip is left in a coma.
Told in alternating chapters between past and present we learn of the highs and lows of their relationship.
The dual narrative added to my investment and it was great to hear both sides of the story, the communication breakdowns, the issues they faced (big TW here) as well as what made them strong.
The story started a little on the slower side, but ramped up towards the end of the 12 hours period which made me fly through the last 100 pages.
I would have liked a different ending though just as an aside!

This book has been on the top of my TBR for months. I’m so excited I got a chance to read the ebook and the audiobook. I loved the two distinct voices of Pippa and Steve, as well as the flicking through from the present to the past to explain different aspects of their love story. It really shows the different parts of their personalities, their goals and fear and their different perceptions of the same situations. I loved hearing their voices in the text and through the narrators.

This was a really sweet love story. Obviously, like all couples, Pippa and Steve had their ups and downs but their love for each other was evident as they helped each other with the ups and downs. I loved the way the story pieced their lives back together after Pippa has a terrible accident and Steve sits by her bedside reminiscing on their life story. What I thought was interesting, and not something I read too often in British novels, was the open ending, when you’re not really sure what their next steps and interactions will be. Either the authors wanted to keep the ending ambiguous for the readers to imagine what happened next or they are hoping to set it up for a sequel where they develop Pippa and Steve’s story further. I really liked this novel and it will definitely be a great addition to my shelves, not least because of the stunning cover design!

This is such a great book and I’d definitely recommend having this one on audiobook as the narrators are fantastic.

Olivia Poulet has created such well developed characters and an intriguing relationship. I loved seeing how they met and felll in love from both of their points of view as they both offer different dimensions. The empathy and compassion you feel jumped out of this book. I laughed and cried with them and that’s such a tricky thing to be able to master as an author but it’s been done effortlessly here!

A lovely story to listen to on audible, a good blend of emotion. There was a mix of humour and had a underlining story throughout

I loved this book so much I didn't want it to end. The characters are so real and down to earth, could really connect with them on a personal level.

I had to listen to this in chunks. I don’t know why butI guess my brain needed to process the date jumping that way.
It’s created somewhat like the film the notebook. They are at the crisis in the ITU and Steve starts going through their whole life piece by piece.
Funny, hilarious, sad and annoyingly long when you just want to if Pippa will be okay. It ends up as though you feel you are almost there… dying to know if she is okay.
Their silly quirky love affair Is beautiful, maddening and what everyone hopes for. You cannot fail to love the characters both the main and their friends and extended family.

12 Hours to Say I Love You by Olivia Poulet, Laurence Dobiesz

There is a very popular Booktok sound that says: "I just finished this book.... And I'm NOT okay!"

I was thinking of this the entire time whilst listening to it (I am reviewing the audiobook by the way). And also on that note, it is narrated by the authors (real life married couple) Laurence Dobiesz and Olivia Poulet, as well as Penny Downie. Which made it even more of an emotional ride for me.

What happens if you get a call from the hospital, informing you that the love of your life was admitted and is unconscious. You get there and hear that they possibly only have a few more hours to live? What do you do if they tell you that the next 12 hours are critical, and the best thing to do is to be there, keep talking, give hope where there isn't much at this stage. This is what we're dealing with here. The only thing Steve Gallagher can do, is sit by his wife Pippa's bedside and tell her all the reasons he loves her, and why it will be worth it to hang on. And for Pippa, being only vaguely aware of her surroundings, thinking of how they got where they are right now. Is there hope? Will it be enough?

This is such an deeply moving and beautiful story. It will break your heart, it will make you giggle, it will make you choose sides.... Quoted as being "the most romantic and heart wrenching book of 2022", I totally get it. A five star read for me!

"12 Hours to Say I Love You" by Olivia Poulet and Laurence Dobiesz is a love story that begins at the end!

Pippa Gallagher is in a coma resulting from a tragic accident...

"Whir. Beep. Click. Breath." The sounds in the ICU hospital room as her husband, Steve sits at her bedside wondering how he and Pippa, a couple who fit together so perfectly, can possibly be in the place they are right now, hovering between life and death.

This love story begins at the end. Almost. It's full of conflicting emotions about a couple who are so different yet love each other so deeply. I laughed with their humor, I cried with their sadness and I loved both of these well developed characters.

Told through the first-person POV's of both Steve and Pippa there is humor as each gives their individual perspectives of how they met, fell in love, and eventually the fate that brings them together in Pippa's hospital room.

This audiobook has three narrators', two of which are the authors, Olivia Poulet as Pippa, and Laurence Dobiesz as Steve. Hats off to an outstanding performance from both of them as they believably morph into their characters. The third narrator, Penny Downie, gives a stellar third person narration, as the machines sound-off, to keep the reader updated on the scenario in Pippa's hospital room during Steve's 12 hour vigil. This is an audiobook that is done very well indeed!

The affection and support Pippa and Steve receive from their families is endearing and a touching part of the story. The depth of their back-story is the bones of the book. Telling you any more than this would spoil things for you!

A fun tidbit I learned about this book is that the author's are actually married...to each other! They're both actors and writers and this is their first novel. Is it semi-autobiographical? Who knows? All I do know is I enjoyed this story and I can't figure out why more people aren't reading it. It's beautifully written, deserving of more attention and I highly recommend the audiobook as the format of choice!

Cannot even tell you all how much I loved this one - I usually don’t specifically bang on about the audio of a book, but I have to with this one because it was just so spot on!

Pippa is lying unconscious after a terrible car accident, and her husband Steve doesn’t know what to do other than to tell her their story. Of how they first met at school, how he loved her for so long before they became friends, how they eventually came to be together, how much they’ve struggled to have the family they wanted, and how they got to this very moment. Will his love be enough to bring her back though?

This is just the perfect romantic novel for me - completely bittersweet, treading the line between hilarious and heartbreaking throughout. The love story isn’t necessarily one of those classic stories, but it feels raw and honest and beautiful, and far more believable because of that. They go through the real battles that so many couples go through - loss, jealousy and the torture of trying for a child unsuccessfully. It’s a really moving novel which will no doubt feel relatable to so many in different ways.

But again, I have to mention the audio narrative - which is narrated by the authors themselves. It was just such great comedy timing, but also really emotional and poignant when it needed to be. I felt so completely immersed in the story as though I was listening to old friends! I honestly just never wanted it to end - an instant five stars for me!

Told through snapshots, little pockets of time that mark the key points in their story from both perspectives. The connection between them was so real that my heart broke for them with every page, and it felt as thought we've lived through their relationship alongside them.

A truly heartbreakingly stunning story about love and loss, fans of If I Stay will definitely love this story.
