Six Word Stories is a collection of short stories told in six words. This was such a fun read. I loved the concept of telling stories using only a specific amount of words. There are multiple authors from around the world that wrote their stories. Some were poems, jokes, love stories, etc. At the end of the book, there is a workbook that gives advice on how to write your own six word stories. There was information on grammar and a website is given so that those interested can enter to send their own stories. I'm actually working on a few stories and hope to send them soon.
6 word stories, poems, advice, etc. very quick read. I found a few cute ones. Some felt like they are for an older audience. Cool idea though!
Thank you to Hebe Publications and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Six Word Stories by Doug Weller is an impressive collection of microfiction that blew my expectations out of the water. The book contains six word stories that run that gamut from jokes to horror. Basically, every genre that is out there has stories that can be condensed into six words. The book also includes the winner of the Six Word Wonder Contest, which had over 3,000 entries.
Here are few six word stories from the book:
"Undertaker paused when he heard tapping."
"Today, I remembered I had dementia."
"Dear diary, he's outside the door."
Overall, Six Word Stories is a wonderful collection of microfiction that helped me pass a restful afternoon. I really enjoyed reading each story, rereading it, and then thinking about the possible meanings and implications. As a classroom teacher, I can see many classroom applications for this book. I can imagine giving students examples of six word stories from this book, encouraging them to make their own, and then sharing them with their classmates. One highlight of this book is the short version of the Six Word Wonder Workbook, which will teach you how to create your own six word story. If you're intrigued by the excerpts above, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in February!
Six Word Stories is the third collection of very short stories sent by contributors world-wide to this interesting project, assembled by American author, Doug Weller, as well as many of his own.

I never heard before about this book (or that there are previous books like this one) but it really caught my attention. Stories in just 6 words? I really had to read that. And the truth is that I wasn't expecting what I found: the stories do make sense. Thanks to this book I have learned that 6 words are enough to say everything.
In 'Six Word Stories' we find everything: jokes, sad stories, horror stories, biograpgies, poetry... Or, what is the same, you have everything in just one book and in "little pills".
I liked it a lot, and I hope to read the rest of the author's books. In addition, at the end of the book we find a workbook in which the author explains or teaches us how to write our own 6 word stories. So I may try out for the next contest.

Short stories don't get much shorter than this! I love the cleverness of telling a story/poem/joke in only six words.
Reading this book is so fun and takes no time at all - it's impossible to put down. Weller also includes some workbook material to encourage/challenge readers to try it for themselves. While the suggestions were helpful and interesting, I prefer the previous books that concentrated on the stories themselves.
I highly recommend you read one of the books. You will marvel at how much can be said in so few words!
My thanks to the author and Hebe publications for permitting me to access an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. The book is scheduled for publication on 2/16/22. All opinions stated in this review are my own and are freely given.
Pros: I first learned about the idea of six-word stories with the famous "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." I am fascinated by how much can be said in six words. This book contains a great variety of stories--some hilarious, some profound, some heartbreaking, some chilling. So many of these could be the first line of a great novel. I love that this book is one that can be read in one sitting (as I did) or enjoyed a bit at a time.
One thing about this book that I was not expecting was the workbook that guides readers through writing their own six-word stories. I imagine that many readers are inspired to give it a go after reading the examples in this book. It's not as easy as it looks! So much though and practice goes into creating a successful six-word story.
Cons: This is not a con but is a note to readers--some of these stories reference covid/the pandemic.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hebe Publications for the opportunity to read this book.
The play with words!
And the wonder of words!
I am looking forward to read the rest of this book series. It's so interesting!
It's fun. It's short. It's entertaining!
This collection took me by surprise.
Thank you, Hebe Publications, for the advance reading copy.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Six Word Stories.
This was great; most of the six word stories are:
Heartbreaking. Gut-wrenching. Poignant. Funny. Dark. Tragic.
But some of them referenced COVID, which I understand because the pandemic has affected us greatly but I didn't want to be reminded of it, either; nor did I want to recall the traumatic aftermath of what our previous president has done to our nation.
I also enjoyed brief tutorial at the end on how to write six word stories, including six word memoirs, poetry, science fiction, just to name a few.
The instructions are: clear, concise, brief, honest, sincere, encouraging.
Contains lots more
Than six words.
Read entire book
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Take Five Brubeck
Six Words Swing.
This book, part of a series, contains stories with just six words and: it works. The book also contains a gem of a primer about how to write six word stories. Especially engaging is the insight on writing humorously.
It is a very clever book.
Clever book
Worth reading?
I'd say.
