This book was a brilliant mystery read that had loads of twists and turn, that every chapter left your hanging with wanting to know more that you could not leave the book down, I loved that each chapter was a different member off the family with a different outlook and a different secret to be told that had so much suspense. Would highly recommend this as a fantastic unable to stop reading book.
A brilliant summer read. I loved the variety of characters and the setting was lush. A dark twisty tale. Another great book by Ross Armstrong x
Overall, it felt a little 'samey' as similar types of these books do, unfortunately.
I found the storyline a tad hard to follow and the multiple narrates did not make it any easier, last thing you want to do is get a confusion headache or turn back again & again to re-read. It really takes the fun away from the plot.
Also, the plot itself seemed a little far fetched and not very believable.
An overall ok read, but nothing much more to say about it, sadly.
This is the absolutely perfect read for the hot summer months! Some millionaires and their crew behaving badly and getting mixed up in murder is the ultimate book to enjoy this season!
An easy read with a few unexpected twists.
I must admit a couple of times throughout I got a bit bored, it felt like it was being dragged out more than needed. But overall a nice, quick 'who dunnit' read.
Thank you to Netgalley & HQ for the AC!
This will be a great beach read but for me it was a bit of a let down. It feels very samey to other books I have read. It is a locked room book and a who dun it? I didn't gel with any of the characters and felt as though the story was a bit slow and drawn out. I did guess who the killer was fairly early on even with the red herrings and the twists. It is a shame as it could of been really good.
The narrative of this book was great unfortunately for me it lacked depth and I
Really didn’t care for any of the characters. No suspension or tension and I couldn’t really have cared less about who the killer was. I really hate to leave a negative review after all the hard work the author has put in but this book just wasn’t for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy of the book. I’m sure it would be an enjoyable whodunnit for a different reader.
Great book thanks for letting me read! I would recommend to other readers. Wasn’t expecting the ending. Book had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen. Very clever
One of my favourite things about this book was the descriptions of the beautiful private island. Which sounds idyllic but without the serial killer for me please.
In this book we meet multimillionaire Robert and his family who arrive on the beautiful private Greek island for a holiday in the sun.
It's time to get away from the hustle and bustle of your life, and the stress and strains that come with it. But the next morning there is a piercing scream that wakes everyone up. A member of the family had been murdered, but their body has been made to look like it was suicide. Every single one of the characters in this book have a motive, every single one of the characters have deep dark hidden secrets and each one of the characters will have you on a wild goose chase as you try and discover what has happened and who committed the murder.
This is a well written book, with some great twist and turns and I liked the way that it played out.
Well well well how can the perfect holiday go wrong, of course if the perfect murder happens this can scupper things badly, a very enjoyable book …
Love a twist on an isolated island with so many twists and turns. Easy to read but so well written. Could not put it down. Loved it. Brilliant
A gripping thriller I really enjoyed. People trapped on an island with the owners who seem to own them as well as the island. I didn't like the characters but thats the point and the island was a dream to see on every page. Shame about the happenings which spolit paradise for the characters. Great for the reader though
Sometimes this book was a little confusing with character voices blending into one at times but overall I could follow but I do think it would be slightly easier to read in a paper book.
One private island. Seven guests. One killer…
The perfect holiday. The perfect murder. The perfect beach read…
Get away from your problems.
Multimillionaire Robert Rathwell and his entourage arrive at their private Greek island. White sand, turquoise water, the perfect place to relax. But this is no ordinary family, and this holiday will be their last.
I love a good psychological thriller and this one went above my expectations. The twists and turns, the suspense, the shock factors! It was all enough to keep me reading, especially as I got closer to the end.
This wirting style seemed a bit unusual to me but in saying that, a really enjoyable story from start to finish. Can get a bit confusing but once you get into tbe rhythm and get to know the characters then it all flows really nicely. An perfect summer read!
This was an OK read and the writing was good, but that’s all. I didn’t like that each chapter was narrated by a different character. I found the story quite difficult to follow anyway, but I kept getting lost and had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to remember who was ‘speaking’. Very confusing! The plot was too ‘over the top’ for me and there were far too many coincidences. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy
Compelling and twisty this book was such a good read. It was fast paced with an intense almost claustrophobic atmosphere and so unpresictable it kept me guessing. I really liked it.
Intense, Intricate, Immeasurably Perfect..
The Rathwell family is no ordinary one. Not only because the patriarch is a multi millionaire and a despot. What exactly goes on behind closed doors in their homes? What dirty secrets do they keep? When they arrive at their exclusive and idyllic Greek island, the Grand House awaits and with it a foreboding of far grander proportions. Intense and intricately plotted with credible characters that jump right off the page and an atmosphere that can be sliced with the proverbial knife. The prose is immeasurably perfect and the style ensures an underlying menace that persists throughout until that very last page. A tension pounding one sit read.
For any fans of Succession, it’s like Logan Roy on a Greek island! A gripping read to take with you on holiday this summer
In The Getaway, a group of people arrive at Robert Rathwell’s private Greek island. Some are family. Some are part of his entourage but it seems that this will be their last holiday on the island when someone is murdered and everyone is a suspect. I was unsure what to expect from this novel. There are a lot of characters and I found myself getting lost some times as to who was speaking. I also found the writing style unusual. Having said that though I was totally invested in the book. You are totally drawn in and consumed until you find out who the murderer is. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

Highly recommended. 100/100
Robert Rathwell and his entourage arrive at their private Greek island. White sand, turquoise water, the perfect place to relax. But this is no ordinary family, and this holiday will be their last. The next morning, a scream shatters their peaceful world. Someone has been murdered, his body arranged to make it look like suicide. Everyone has a motive and, under the burning sun, secrets quickly simmer to the surface. Soon the guests see a darker, more violent side to paradise. Because the Rathwells don’t just own the island; they own the people on it. And they can do whatever they like – maybe even commit murder…
Wow. This novel was a rollercoaster. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.
