I generally enjoy both short stories and time travel stories, so I was primed to enjoy this book. And I certainly did! As is the case with story collections, there were some stories I enjoyed more than others, but none of these were duds.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy for my review.

This collection of time travel stories was wonderful. Each story is tied together by the theme of love across time, but each of them unique. Some are trying to find each other, some stumble on each other without expecting it. The representation of gender, sexuality, and race is wide and thoughtfully curated. There is really something for everyone in this collection.

"Anthology of inclusive tales of people through time looking for one another and for ways for the world to be better.

Even time travel can’t unravel love.

Time-travel is a way for writers to play with history and imagine different futures - for better, or worse.

When romance is thrown into the mix, time-travel becomes a passionate tool, or heart-breaking weapon. A time agent in the 22nd century puts their whole mission at risk when they fall in love with the wrong person. No matter which part of history a man visits, he cannot not escape his ex. A woman is desperately in love with the time-space continuum, but it doesn’t love her back. As time passes and falls apart, a time-traveller must say goodbye to their soulmate.

With stories from best-selling and award-winning authors such as Seanan McGuire, Alix E. Harrow and Nina Allan, this anthology gives a taste for the rich treasure trove of stories we can imagine with love, loss and reunion across time and space.

Including stories by: Alix E. Harrow, Zen Cho, Seanan McGuire, Sarah Gailey, Jeffrey Ford, Nina Allan, Elizabeth Hand, Lavanya Lakshminarayan, Catherynne M. Valente, Sam J. Miller, Rowan Coleman, Margo Lanagan, Sameem Siddiqui, Theodora Goss, Carrie Vaughn, Ellen Klages."

SO HERE for Zen Cho, among others!

That was an interesting anthology. Obviously, not every story appealed to me but I enjoyed the wide range of tones, themes, and takes on the subject. Elizabeth Hand's Kronia and Alix Harrow's Roadside Attractions are my two favs, each for different reasons.

All in all, it's a strong anthology, worth your time and attention.

What can be better than time-travel and romance? Nothing I tell you! This was just the collection of stories I didn’t know I needed. It was fascinating to see how many different ways time travel is approached and how love defines the characters’ adventures. Though some of the stories are more somber than others, the focus on relationships make them a more warm and cozy read than a lot of other time travel stories.

The first two stories in this anthology, “Roadside Attraction” and “The Past Life Reconstruction Service”, are great at establishing the ‘time travel philosophy’ most stories seem to follow. For most, time travel is somewhat random and inglorious. These are not big adventures to change the course of history as we know it and/or save a doomed future. They are about people finding themselves, and each other, in time.

Of course, there are some stories that I felt were better than others, but I really enjoyed most of them. I appreciate the inclusivity of this collection and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a blend of speculative and romance.

This anthology of short stories is best read in multiple sittings, bite by bite. Although each story brings its' own voice, focus and message to the prompt of time-travel and romance combination, they begin to blend together if read in short succession.

Most stories feature star-crossed and time-displaced lovers who can only meet in fleeting moments as their circumstances whisk them apart.

Special mention to the following:
* Roadside Attraction by Alix E. Harrow
* The Golden Hour by Jeffery Ford
* Unabashed, or Jackson, Whose Cowardice Tore a Hole in the Chronicles by Sam J Miller
* Time Gypsy by Ellen Klages

This was a super fun collection of short stories that all involved time travel and romance. I like time travel. I like romance. Sign me up! Bonus that so many of these stories are written by big name, favorite authors such as Sarah Gailey, Catherynne M. Valente, and Zen Cho. Also, it is worth noting that the majority of these romances are queer.

I really enjoyed my time with this. I'd say the majority of the stories were 4 stars for me. Really fun, but not mind blowing. Some were exceptionally sweet or cute though. Stories that stood out me were:

Time Gypsy by Ellen Klages - I suspect this one is actually a novelette, although I don't know for sure. It was a little longer than most of the others and I think the extra length really helped with the buy in I had as a reader. I loved the queer romance and the historical setting of the 1950's. It was a good story and really felt like a window into what it was like to be queer in the 1950's.

Romance: Historical by Rowan Coleman - This was bittersweet and just so cute! Who hasn't dreamed of finding a little portal in a bookstore with a cutie on the otherside?

I Remember Satellites by Sarah Gailey - I liked this story. It convinced me. I would have loved even more romance though.

Past Life Reconstruction Service by Zen Cho - This was so charming. I loved the time travel concept and the idea of soul mates.

The Difference Between Love and Time by Catherynne M. Valente - This was classic strange, but beautiful Valente. The prose in this one reminded me of Jack Kerouac. I loved the trippy concept and prose, but at the end of the day, this one didn't work as well as other stuff I've read by Valente.

Sexual violence? I don't remember any. Other content warnings? Homophobia, suicide.

I am a sucker for time travel romance, and while I don't normally get into short stories much, I was instantly sucked into these stories. I am definitely buying a couple of copies for my library because it's going to be a hit with many of our patrons.

Someone in Time
[Short Story Anthology]

Time-travel romance. Sixteen different flavors of it, across the spectrum of identity and place. Some set in the future, others in the past, a few in an eternal in-between place or alternate fork in time. There really is something for everyone.

So many unique queer love stories in this collection! Roadside Attraction and Time Gypsy were hopeful. Unabashed, or: Jackson, Whose Cowardice Tore a Hole in the Chronoverse was a stinging study in regret. I liked that the book wasn’t pinned down by one type of love, just as it wasn’t pinned to one type of story.

For being so short, they were surprisingly poignant. Past Life Reconstruction Service brought me to tears. Romance: Historical was adorable. And The Place Of All The Souls had me asking some uncomfortable questions. The Difference Between Love and Time was strangely hilarious, documenting a tumultuous affair with the anthropomorphized space/time continuum itself. And A Letter To Merlin and Bergamot & Vetiver were really unexpected.

Only two stories didn’t connect with me as much (The Lichens and Kronia) but it’s just because they are outside of my style preference. The lack of dialogue punctuation in The Lichens made it difficult to follow.

⭐️ Overall, a lovely collection and one I’ll be revisiting. 5/5

4.31 out of 5, rounded down to 4.

A very high quality of content in this anthology, and there were no absolutely terrible stories. I chose this book because of the inclusion of certain authors. Funnily enough, these were the stories I enjoyed the least! My TBR pile now includes fantastic new authors discovered in this work. Thank you so much (I think ;))!

My favourites were:
Time Gypsy - Ellen Klages;
Dead Poets - Carrie Vaughn;
The Lichens - Nina Allan;
Roadside Attraction - Alix E Narrow; and
The Difference Between Love and Time - Catherynne M Valente

Roadside Attraction - Alix E Harrow 5*
Beautifully written and held my heart in each word.

The Past Life Reconstruction Service - Zen Cho 4*
What you try to run away from follows you everywhere. Or, as we say in Scotland, "What's for you won't go past you."

First Aid - Seanan McGuire 3*
I'm afraid this didn't grab me at all.

I Remember Satellites - Sarah Gailey 5*
Such a strong sense of love in these words.

The Golden Hour - Jeffrey Ford 5*
Drew me in completely. I had no idea where this story would take me.

The Lichens - Nina Allan 5*
Beautifully written, sensitive, and so atmospheric.

Kronia - Elizabeth Hand 3*
Okay. A quick read.

Bergamot and Vetiver - Lavanya Lakshminarayan 4*
Good story. Was desperate for the main characters to spend more time together.

The Difference Between Love and Time - Catherynne M Valente 5*
So powerful, full of expression, emotion, and atmosphere.

Unabashed, Or: Jackson, Whose Cowardice Tore a Hole in the Chronicles - Sam J Miller 4*
Short, well-written, and engrossing.

Romance: Historical - Rowan Coleman 5*
Such a heartbreaking tale.

The Place of All The Souls - Margo Lanagan 3*
A wee bit confusing for me, unfortunately.

Timed Obsolescence - Sameem Siddique 3*
This didn't grab me at all, sorry.

A Letter To Merlin - Theodora Goss 5*
Loved this tale. A very easy read.

Dead Poets - Carrie Vaughn 5*
Adored this story. Beautifully haunting. Loved the ending.

Time Gypsy - Ellen Klages 5*
Was completely engrossed. Very easy reading, but some not easy content. Loved the ending.

I chose an ARC of this anthology which I voluntarily and honestly read and reviewed. All opinions are my own. My thanks to NetGalley and Rebellion.

“The course of time’s river does not consider the possibility of confluence when past and future collide in an infinite second.”

“Time is not a mighty river, it’s not a stream, nor a burbling brook. Time doesn’t flow. It’s one vast contiguous form like a giant wheel of cheese.”

I love the concept of time travel, and whether it’s on the page or on the screen I can’t resist a good time travel story! I’m also a fan of short story anthologies, so I was beyond excited to pick up this book! Each story involves time travel of some sort, as well as a theme of love.

Some of the stories were pure sci-fi while others swerved more toward fantasy or even historical fiction, and the different takes on time travel and time manipulation were so interesting to read! The love aspects included new love and lost love, forbidden love and familial love, and the seemingly never-ending search for love.

I was excited that a few authors I have previously enjoyed were included in this anthology, and I’ve discovered several others whose work I want to read more of!

My top 5 favorites, in no particular order, were:
✨ Roadside Attraction by Alix E. Harrow
✨ First Aid by Seanan McGuire
✨ I Remember Satellites by Sarah Gailey
✨ The Difference Between Love and Time by Catherynne M. Valente
✨ Time Gypsy by Ellen Klages
💫 Bonus (because I’m indecisive and I loved too many of these) Romance: Historical by Rowan Coleman

I recommend this if you love time travel stories and are tired of the same old “man time travels while woman stays home and waits for him” trope!

I’ve never hidden my general dislike of short stories, but I come to this with an open mind.

I admit I hadn’t heard of any of the contributing authors in this book but that did mean I didn’t go in with any expectations.

For me, these stories are more about the feelings of time travel and what it means for people rather than the actual act of time travel itself.

It’s perfect reading when you don’t have much time. You don’t have to commit to a 300+ page story, you can dip in and out.

I found some stories more engaging than others. Some stuck to classic time travel rules, others re-invented it and some fell in the middle so you never feel like you’re reading the same story over and over. It’s clear time travel isn’t going anywhere soon.

As with most short story collections there are some hit and misses depending on personal taste, but for me most of these were hits. Such a great collection of wonderful writers. I wanted to give a list of my favourites here in my reviews, but I ended up adding almost every story in the latter half and quite a few in the beginning. The first story that really resonated with me was 'The past life reconstruction' by Zen Cho. Such a beautiful story of soulmates surpassing time and circumstances and appreciating the love in our lives. A must read collection if you enjoy science fiction, romance or short stories.

“Baby, the difference between love and time is nothing. Nothing. There is no difference. The love we give to each other is the time we give to each other, and the time we spend together is the whole of love."

I'm not going to lie, the only reason I picked this book up was because of the Alix E Harrow short story.

Wow am I glad I took a chance on this one! This Time Travel anthology is filled with stories that make you ache and hurt, love and cry.

Instead of the typical superhero guy goes back in time, this collection features lgbtqia+ people finding happily ever afters. It has women in STEM getting revenge on male colleagues trying to steal their work. It has humanity working together to try and extend and save humanity from ourselves. While not ever story was happy or hopeful, the overwhelming majority were and that was the real joy of this book.

Someone in Time has stories from all different genres; sci fi and fantasy, speculative fiction and romance, and some Magical Realism.

With every short story collection there's going to be stories that are better than others, but this collection is such a strong, well rounded group of stories.

It's a rare book that has me preordering a copy before I've even finished it. But after four of the short stories I had already ordered a copy and started finding more short story collections to devour.

"Futures were so much harder than destinies. They were full of doubts and uncertainties, long nights and uncomfortable conversations with your mother. It took guts, to face your future."

Truly a fantastic anthology.

Thanks NetGalley and Solaris for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It was okay, I really enjoyed the plot but it took me a long time to get into as it was a bit confusing in terms of its structure.
Not every story in this book was amazing but some were so perfect that the overall collection gets a higher rating.
Also, the stories are so short and are about time travel, you are not going to have all your questions answered. In fact, you won’t have many questions answered at all. You really just have to accept the world the author sets up and go with it.

I thought I'd pace myself and read a story a day, fat chance. I tore through this collection of time travel short stories in one sitting. So many inventive ideas how to travel through time. So many sweet love stories.

I've discovered authors that I hadn't read anything by before, and which I'll certainly read more of.

Highly recommend this collection!

Loved this! The diversity of voices and breadth of ideas on time travel were fun and eye-opening. Not a bad story in the collection.

Short stories are NOT my thing, BUT time-travel and romance stories _are_. So when I saw this available, with some writers I love, some writers I wondered about, and some writers I'd only heard of, I desperately wanted to read it. I so appreciate having this chance.

This is- as you may have guessed, an anthology of time-travel romance short stories. There are 16 in all, 14 are brand-new. What I loved about this collection is that each story is so different, and yet they all fit together. There were, obviously, some I liked more than others, but none I that I disliked... although a couple were hard for me to follow, as I'm not as into sci-fi as others. But that was ok! Most (all?) of these stories had LGBTQ+ main characters, and I loved that, as I have been specifically broadening my reading over the last few years to stories that are NOT mine (as a straight, cis, white woman).

The first and last stories were my favorites overall, one by an author I already love, the other by an author I'd never heard of. But I'll be checking out books and stories by nearly all the authors in this book.

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I did and I wasn’t disappointed!
All about time travel and love.
It’s a warm and lovely book, full of imaginative and unusual stories, with all kinds of representations.
But I wish this was not just a collection of short stories,
I was trying to pick out my favourites, but there were many and I look forward to reading more from the authors.
