I'm rarely at a loss for words, but this book has left me speechless in the best way possible. I felt like I was being let into someone's life, watching it unfold first hand, stepping into their memories as well as current events. And I quickly found myself loving Faith. She's had so much in her life that's harmed her, and come so far. Nicholi was an amazing supporting character, and I loved the interactions between him and Faith. It's clear he loves her deeply, and it really touched my heart. I will warn you - this book is very emotional, and there were moments that warmed my heart as much as some made me tear up. If you're looking for a beautifully written piece of women's fiction, you need to read this.
I received this Arc from Netgalley. Thank you for the chance to read this book early. My review is honest and 100% my own thoughts about the book.
This book was a little hard to read. It had me bawling and feeling for the family and the characters in the book. A lot of the book was in Ebonics. Which made it a little bit harder to rad but did make the book more realistic, I really enjoyed the Bipoc Representation.
The storyline did make me a little sad. Especially when the family members would be more interested in what they would get when a family member would pass away rather than being present and celebrating the life of a love one. The author has touched my heart with this one. I really feel for the characters. They had to learn how to deal with PTSD and the grief of loss.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A good women's fiction novel. Love the cover.
Losing Love by B. J. Herron is a contemporary fiction that is raw and heartbreaking in its exploration of family trauma and grief. The story follows Faith, a successful lawyer who has tried to leave behind her childhood trauma, as she is forced to face her past demons with an urgent trip home to care for her ailing grandmother. Faith returns to her family and goes through all the stages of grief and healing as she faces her abusers and makes a stand for what is right. This story felt autobiographical as the emotions and pain was so real and overwhelming. The author did an amazing job of portraying the layers of hurt and healing that surround family disputes, early childhood trauma, and the forgiveness of moving forward.
It was an okay book. I think it wasn’t right for me. It was difficult for be to follow. I would give another book by this author a try.
