Since moving to Seoul from San Francisco, Alice hasn’t sung much unless you count the karaoke sessions, where she is cheered on by K-Pop fangirl and little sister Olivia. But when Alice is invited to Star Academy, where K-Pop idols are made, she is suddenly a member of an upcoming girlband and her life is now all about making it. Can she pull it off? And who is the mysterious gossip blogger who seems to know about everything that goes on within Star Academy? Idol Gossip is a gripping story of friendship, sisterhood and working hard for your dreams. I learned so much about Korean culture but also the universe of K-Pop. Of course, I knew what K-Pop was but I didn’t really know much about at all and now I get how much of a big deal it really is to a rapidly-growing fandom. The uplifting ending proves that love and kindness conquers all and I finished it with a huge smile on my face and warmth in my heart.
Ah I don't think I was the target audience for this book. I found it cheesy, dramatic and didn't really like any of the characters (except maybe Aria). The protagonist didn't have much depth and therefore I wasn't really invested in her journey. Overall this book just didn't capture my attention but I'm glad it had a sweet ending.
Just not really that great.
I know this is for a younger audience, but I don't enjoy the way it's written and think there are other better k-pop revolving books to read.

"When you are sinking into a pit of quicksand, your instict is to struggle, but the more you try to dig yourself out, the faster you sink into the pit."
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the UK version of the book.
The truth is that since I saw the cover I completely fell in love and the K-pop theme had me intrigued since I had recently read another book with the same theme.
The book introduces us to Alice Choy, a 17-year-old American girl who goes to live in Korea, Seoul for her mother's job. Alice is a prodigy in singing, since she was passionate about muisca since she was little and how it made her feel and her dream is to become a well-known singer. One day Alice goes with her sister Olivia to a karaoke and an agent from Top-10 Records, a well-known idol agency in Korea, approaches her and tells her that there will be auditions to be part of a new girl group that will debut soon. .
Alice doesn't want to go to the audition because she doesn't know if it's what she wants for her future but her sister ends up convincing her and she goes and fortunately she is accepted.
The synopsis of the book caught my attention but it is not what I fully expected. The author tells us more about the world and about the life of an Idol in Korea, which surprised me a lot because we can't see all the effort of the people and everything they had to go through to get there.
I like how she explains meeting expectations on and off stage, it was very sad and difficult for me to see Alice go through what happened because she couldn't 100% enjoy activities that any teenager should have the chance to do but Due to the circumstances in which he was, he could no longer.
The relationship with her family was what I liked the most, how they supported her at all times and how they were her pillar and motivation to move forward.
Meeting A-List (her group with which she was going to debut) was very nice but like everything there were difficulties especially with the leader Aria and I would have liked it to go deeper into the lives of the other members and their relationship with Alice .
And Joon was super cute, he was always friendly and understanding with Alice at all times and he has a confidence in her that I really liked how it developed.
Seeing that difficult part of becoming a star and everything that you have to go through, was very realistic and is what gives a touch to the story, apart from the fact that it was super fast but I would have liked it, as you already mentioned that it was It will delve deeper into family and friendship relationships.
I recommend this book if you like K-POP and want to know more and with a great touch of family love.

I give it 3.5/4.
Yes, set in the K-pop world, but it is a universal story.
Being a pop star is the ultimate dream, and if I were not so afraid of singing in front of people, I would be one, too. Oh, and if I could sing, I forget that tiny detail! Lol
Anyway, we never truly see the negative side to fame, the hours, days, weeks, months and even years it takes to make it, the strict routines, diets, the never-ending search for perfection (a perfection that does not exist). It is gruelling and stressful to the point it can have a detrimental effect on your physical and mental health.
But Alice's story shines a spotlight on the real downside to fame, especially in the modern world where one mistake, one slip up, is instantly uploaded and will forever be on the web. That there will always be people out there wanting to see you fail. And a particular blog post written by the infamous V is determined to bring down the K-pop empire and the idols.
I enjoyed the story and loved how Alice develops. We, understandably, see it through her eyes, so it was not until the end that I got to see it from different perspectives and how things had impacted them and their lives.
On that basis, I would have preferred two or three POV's.
I like it centres around Alice, but it would have added a little more depth if we saw how the other members of the band were coping.
The ending is cute but a little rushed.
There is a minor trigger warning as it briefly touches on suicide, but like the mention of a bisexual character, it is quickly spoken about and then never approached again. Missed opportunity? I don't know.
Again, I am torn with my rating. It is a great book and perfect for children and young adults. I would recommend it to everyone, but if you are over 18, remember it is for a younger audience, so a more light-hearted look into the pop world.
A fun, addicting addition to the trend of K-pop focused YA novels - this is a gorgeous YA debut! A strong voice, characters that come alive right off the page so stubbornly that they refuse to be anything but three dimensional in your eyes, an engaging plot and a mixed format that makes it all the more entertaining, this book has it all.
If you, too, have read and loved K-Pop Confidential., Shine, XOXO etc and want another memorable addition to this very niche type of story, rest assured that this is your perfect next read! Whether a newbie to the world of K-pop or well versed in the industry, this book is going to be a delight for any lover of YA contemporaries
I love books about people in entertainment or the music industry. This was a cool book abt a girl’s accidental fall into the K pop industry. I love all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on to make it and especially when the protagonist is a normal relatable person. Very fun! This would make a great series, i course see Lana Condor playing the part.
Unfortunately this book is not available in Kindle format therefore I am not able to read it and review it properly.
Thank you for the e-arc.
