Tropical Birds is a beautiful reference book bursting with stunning photography and colour. There are all sorts of birds including species that migrate to the tropics for part of the year. The classes of bird include; Parrots and cuckoos, hummingbirds, song birds, ground birds, and toucans. Lots of information including habitats and diets is included but the most memorable parts are the stunning and detailed pictures. Overall an excellent book, great for artists as well as bird lovers.

This great book was packed full of beautiful photographs. I really did love looking at the different species of birds. Each bird had a very small explanation, a line or two about each bird. The book was split into different types of birds so it made it easy compare the different subspecies from around the globe. This book would be brilliant for those who love looking at beautiful bird photography. For me I love learning and was rather disappointed by the lack of information about the birds. This book had so much potential to be a 5 star book . I just wished they had resized the pictures to pack more information in. I was glad I read this book as I just loved the great pictures.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for bringing together such a wonderful collection of bird pictures.

This photography collection is a celebration of tropical birds with their flair for beauty. Some of them live in the tropics all year round, while others are migratory. What they share is a tendency to develop flamboyant plumage and colourful beaks in order to get noticed.

The book is divided into six sections: parrots & cuckoos; toucans & woodpeckers; hornbills & relatives; hummingbirds & swifts; ground birds; song birds. Each chapter begins with a short guide to the birds’ taxonomy, morphology, habitats and diets, followed by images that highlight specific features.

I am fascinated by the details in these images. You can see the rachis and barbs on each feather. You can trace the patterns around the birds’ eyes. The vibrant colours are truly mesmerising. Parrots and cuckoos are masters of colours , but my favourite are the scarlet and white ibises. Their spread wings remind me of kungfu masters in flowing robes.

This book is definitely a treat for bird lovers and photography lovers alike, and it makes me want to go out and see the birds in nature. Thank you Amber Books for this stunning ARC.

Tropical Birds is a beautiful pictorial look at birds of the tropics written and curated by Tom Jackson. Due out 10th May 2022 from Amber Books, it's 224 pages and will be available in hardcover format.

This book is collected from mostly stock photos, but exceptionally well curated and written. It's illustrated throughout with photographs and illustrations from detailed macro photos by talented nature photographers. The chapters are arranged thematically by bird families: parrots & cuckoos, toucans & woodpeckers, hornbills, hummingbirds & swifts, ground birds, and songbirds. The photos are captioned and provide insight into species' habitat, food and habits. Photos are very high quality and colourful.

The species included in the book are referred to by common (not scientific nomenclature). There is also little information about the ranges of the species. There was also no index in the eARC provided for review, although that might be included in the release version of the book. The book does include a comprehensive and specific photo credits appendix.

Four stars. I found the book engaging and beautiful, but the bottom line is that it's a collection of gorgeous photos with limited additional information.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. An amazing book about tropical birds, many of which I have seen, but other than me, I'm not sure it would be checked out at the library. Kind of a niche book.

Not only is this a stunning photographic book on tropical birds, but there is a wealth of information on many different birds that I hardly knew about. This is really a true detailed anthology of these wonderful species of birds that live in the tropics.
Loved it

Maybe I am biased but I love birds so this book is perfect for any bird lover. The photos are amazing and it doesn't offer much information about birds maybe where the name comes from or maybe it's about the size of the birds or where you can find but it's enough to learn just a bit more about them without feeling like it's too much. I can't wait to have a physical copy of this book.

There is so much color and beauty captured in every single page! I thoroughly enjoyed Tropical Birds by Tom Jackson. It is like an artist sharing a personal gallery that is just for your own enjoyment. I could take my time and really explore the details on each of the birds. Locations, generally speaking, are provided with short or brief pieces of information, but the bulk of the book focuses on the image of the bird. I loved this! Truly stunning and majestic photos. Thank you for compiling your work and sharing it with the public. I highly recommend this book for lovers of birds, art, and photography.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

Beautiful coffee table book with 180 colorful photos of tropical birds. The book is sectioned by breeds: Parrots and Cuckoos, Toucans and Woodpeckers, Hornbills and Relatives, Hummingbirds and Swifts, Ground Birds and Songbirds. Each photos is accompanied by a brief blurb that gives you information about habitat, diet or something unique about that species. The descriptions are minimal with the photos being the stars. I was surprised that 90 percent of birds spend some time in the tropics. The colors of many of the birds are a visual treat. This would be great for any bird lover. Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books Ltd., for a temporary eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Birds freak me out. If the conspiracy theory that bird's aren't real were to be revealed as true I would not at all be surprised. This book, while beautiful, did not do anything to calm my nerves when it comes to birds. I have been to numerous national parks in the United States and Tanzania and one thing the parks all have in common are "bird people" like people who have a bucket list of birds they want to see and will sit and wait all day for an elusive bird to appear. I just don't get it. This book groups birds by family rather than geographic region and points out the various feature of the birds. The photographs are truly stunning, but no matter how beautiful the picture there are just some that you look at and think "yep, that's a dinosaur." This book would make a great gift for the "bird person" in your life.

Who's a pretty boy, then? With sterling photos (as expected) and text mostly reduced to their captions (again, as per previous form), this publisher's book of tropical birds is wonderful to browse. Starting with the parrot types, including budgies, lovebirds, lories and so on, we find several species of bird that were new to me – and some that were unexpected for being there, that I'll leave you to discover for yourself. Next are the toucans – or again, that should be toucans etc, for the spread of birds included. Hornbills, kingfishers – all may act as warm-up acts for the birds of paradise, but are nothing less than splendid diversions. Some knowledgable bird experts may find the lack of text a little disappointing perhaps, but if they sought any simple picture of all these birds in the wild it would not be an easy endeavour whatsoever. So even those curmudgeons would have Amber Books to thank for getting some wonderful close-ups and action shots, all in the one place. Come to this knowing it's a most diverting visual book, and not for ornithological science, and you'll love it.

What a gorgeous book! The pictures were stunning and I loved that we got to learn so much about the birds, as well. Each section gave us more in-depth information about each species of bird, but then the photos explained more about each specific sub-species, including their habitat and a little bit more about them. The photos of the birds were absolutely amazing, and I particularly loved some of the close-ups of the colorful feathers or interestingly shaped beaks. This would make a really great present for bird or nature lovers!
