This book was sent to me for review electronically by Netgalley…intrigue…secrets…mystery…murder…friendship…love…family…themes running throughout this story…the author has woven a tale that is realistic…could be true…red herrings…the title intrigued me as if the house was a character…the address…the protagonist isn’t loves her husband but must find out what happened way back when…his friends are not likable…two of them…not what they Pretend to be…although the story does slow down, at times, it hastens readily to a surprise ending…don’t miss this book…

Maggie Scott rightfully suspects that something doesn’t add up when a strange woman answers the door at her neighbors house and claims to be their house sitter. Addicted to this book… As soon as I started to read, I just knew that I wouldn’t be able to put the book down… One hell of a rollercoaster ride.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the copy of 214 Palmer Street. This book was not for me. I never connected with the characters, none of whom were memorable or likable. I also never understood why Sarah thought moving into that house was a good idea. Of course, if she hadn’t there wouldn’t be a book, but there were other people in the present POV who also did things with no clear motivation. The story had promise, but better story editing would have helped. If you’re looking for a quick read and don’t care if everything has a motivation, this book is for you. Sadly, it was not for me.

Her neighbors and good friends, Josh and Cady are away, so why does Maggie see light and movement in their house? Like a good friend, Maggie ventures next door to see what’s going on, only to meet Sarah, sho says she’s housesitting for the Caldwells. Maggie doesn’t have a reason to distrust the young woman and after talking for a while, Maggie goes home. But Sarah is in a panic, she’s no housesitter and no one was supposed to see her. This is a solid domestic thriller, a good reliable beach read

Nosy neighbours… I guess everybody knows them, probably has them too. I, for one, confess I sometimes (or often as my son would claim) am part of that group too. But it does not have to be a bad thing, does it? It also mean people look out for you and when they hear or something that is not quite right, they want to investigate, to help.

When you are up to something you really should not be doing, you wish they would mind their own business. What you are planning to do, are determined to do is a must. You want to unravel the mystery in order to see for yourself whether the person you love and trust with all your heart is who they claim to be. Are they really innocent or are they hiding something big?

Time to find out, but you did not realise it would come to this…

Maybe you should have let sleeping dogs lie…

It was a good story and I enjoyed the book although I thought some things were a bit predictable. 4 stars

Thank you

"She saw movement in the house? Sarah had just arrived the night before and she'd been extremely careful to mask her presence. The fact that Maggie noticed meant she was even more observant than Sarah had anticipated. Clearly, she needed to be more careful."

214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion is an easy to read, edge-of-your-seat mystery set in seemingly perfect suburbia... but is there something stirring behind the curtain? Sarah Aden has an overbearing but loving, wealthy husband, fulfilling job at a landscaping company with friendly coworkers and understanding in-laws, but when Sarah wakes up in her own backyard with a head injury her life begins to unravel. Her husband Kirk and police chief Gavin Karmer have been the best of friends since childhood, which will surely come in handy when trying to solve who attacked Sarah... and who's been leaving threatening letters on the Aden's doorstep.

For fans of suburban thrillers like Not a Happy Family and Such a Quiet Place. 4 stars.

Have you ever played ‘whack-a-mole’ at the carnival or fair? That’s what I felt like I was doing while reading this intense thriller! I’d come up with a suspect and think ‘Whack - I’ve got it’ and then in the next chapter another suspect pops up and I think ‘Oh, it’s this one. Whack - I’ve got it' and …. I think you understand the metaphor.

From the first page, readers know that something is ‘off.’ They can’t put their finger on it, but they just have an uneasy feeling. It begins with Sarah, the protagonist, who is suffering from a head injury and trying to make sense of her surroundings. Nothing, it seems, is as it should be. When she takes matters into her own hands and seeks therapy, her whole world changes. Suddenly, she doesn’t know who to trust…but one thing’s for certain, she’s going to find out or die trying!

The author has written a gripping tale about three teenage friends and their desperate attempts to put their past behind them. It’s one of those stories that I imagine could hold people captive if told late at night around a campfire. It’s perfectly creepy. It’s wonderfully plotted, full of twists and nasty characters and, of course, unreliable narrators. The variety of points of view add to the readers’ confusion … who is telling the truth?

You’ll have to read for yourself to discover the secret that 214 Palmer Drive is hiding.

Surprises and suspense in this psychological thriller

Sarah is staying at 214 Palmer Street whilst the owners are away, and is not pleased at being discovered there by an attentive neighbour.
Kirk is a loving, and thoughtful husband.
“Her” is definitely a shady character.
Or have I got it all wrong? That is one of the delights of this psychological thriller, as the story unfolds so do the layers of the characters, and one is not sure who are the good guys and who are definitely not. The one thing that is certain is there is a mystery awaiting to be unearthed.

The action is split between “now” and “6 months” earlier, the plot is easy to follow, the writing flows well, is easy to read and fast moving. To me this a was great involving thriller, that I looked forward to picking up, and thoroughly enjoyed. Not too much about the plot here as I don’t want to give anything away, but there are surprises, suspense and plenty of times when I didn’t want to put it down.

This is the first book I have read by Karen McQuestion, and I shall certainly turn to her when I am looking for a entertaining thriller with good characters and an enjoyable plot.

Really enjoyed this thriller that had me guessing at pretty much every turn. Based on the blurb I read about the book, this wasn't quite what I expected but I wasn't disappointed. Sarah, the main character, sustains a head injury after someone hits her with a rock. Her long recovery includes some memory lapses and bouts of vertigo so she leaves her job to stay at home. In that time, she learns some things about her husband that he had never mentioned and she decides to look into a little further. I felt that there were some gaps in the story, how did we go from this happening to that reaction type thing but as with other thrillers I've read, reasons aren't always so clear cut. Regardless, the book certainly held my attention and overall I enjoyed the character of Sarah. I would definitely read more by the author as well.

From the intriguing image of the woman in the window on the front cover, to the Acknowledgments at the back of the book, Karen McQuestion’s 214 Palmer Street is a delightful blend of mystery, suspense, and family drama. Sarah knows that someone is lying but whom can she trust? There are so many secrets and people aren’t really who they pretend to be. Sarah's very life depends on identifying the “bad guys” before it’s too late! Questions and thoughts like these kept running through my mind as I rapidly scoured the pages of this Advanced Readers Copy thanks to @Netgalley. If you enjoy a psychological thriller that examines some high school relationships from years ago; are fascinated by the mysterious disappearance of a beloved brother, son, and friend; and enjoy cheering for the “good guys,” then I recommend you treat yourself to this book. Publication date is April 6, 2022.

I really enjoyed this, even if it was a ridiculously quick read and was over in a few hrs. Its a pretty straight forward plot with a few twists thrown in to try and make it at least a slight mystery. It did love up to much as a thriller but it was still a good crime/ domestic noir type. The characters were all incredibly unlikeable but that could just have been my personal take on them. I can't say any of them really had any redeeming features though. It's nit amazing but I still really enjoyed it and and appreciated it for the type of lady beach read that it is

Writing: 1/5 | Plot: 1/5 | Ending: 1/5

THE PLOT

Maggie the nosey neighbour spots some movement in the house next door—the problem? The owners are supposed to be gone for a month. Sarah is playing house, but why?

MY OPINION

I think the rating says it all. Forced, amateur writing. Over the top plot with despicable, shallow characters and illogical decisions. Lifetime movie ass ending.

I knew I was in for it early on when I read this literary masterpiece of a sentence:

"After answering the door, and talking to Maggie Scott, Sarah went back to the kitchen and got out her burner phone, the one she'd purchased just a month before."

Need I say more?

PROS AND CONS

Pros: I finished it
Cons: Everything

#214PalmerStreet #NetGalley
ENGROSSING![[ 100/100
I'VE read books in which characters have secrets or houses have secrets, well... this book has everything in it.
Sarah's husband Kirk wants her to quit her job after her return from a hospital suffering the impact from the stone which hit her head and she did go to the hospital. Investigation is set up by Gavin, an old friend and police officer now and Sarah is finding a lot about her husband that she didn't know till now. A house address cones up 214 Palmer Street. Now Sarah takes the investigation and really want to know what could've happened in the house? What secrets her husband is hiding? What's the mystery of this house?
Then there is Maggie Scott, Josh and Cady. Well I'm not giving anything about them.
It was my first book by this author and OMG it was ENGROSSING.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

214 Palmer Street holds many secrets. As this story unfolds, we find out how decisions made decades earlier affect the events of today. I loved the level of suspense in this story!

Sarah is hit in the head with a rock one day on her patio. After her return from the hospital she is still not herself and her husband Kirk wants her to quit her job and stay home. An investigation into the accident is done by Kirk's old high school friend and policeman, Gavin. As Sarah learns more about her husband's past and his relationships, she discovers he has a lot of secrets and that includes what happened at 214 Palmer Street. Sarah is on a mission to figure them out.

This was my first book by Karen McQuestion and will not be my last. I loved that it was very engrossing but also a quick read. I appreciate that the suspense was held high throughout the story and the characters were developed in great detail. The writing is really top notch! If you are looking for a quick and easy mystery, 214 PALMER STREET is a great one!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What is the significance of that address?

What could have happened there?

Why is Sarah in the house when the owners are not there?

We meet characters with secrets, a house with secrets, a nosy neighbor, and many twists and turns.

Sarah was hit on the head in her backyard one day, and her husband found her after work. She has some memory issues and can't remember what happened, but someone must.

And someone must know what happened at 214 Palmer Street that caused Sarah to get hit on the head.

We follow Sarah, Kirk, and an unnamed person in alternating chapters telling past and present events.

Ms. McQuestion has given us another wonderful mystery that will have you not wanting to put the book down.

The ending will have you on edge and happily satisfied.

This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

“214 Palmer Street” by Karen McQuestion is a mystery thriller. The majority of the book takes place in present time, though there are flashbacks nearly 20 years previously. I guessed parts of the mystery of this book (though one part, as a parent, I found a bit of a stretch - but maybe that’s because I’m suspicious in general). I cannot say that I really liked any of the characters (though I was glad that Phil was a friend and not more). One character’s comment to Sarah near the end of the book I found really odd - revenge for a comment your mother said about boys? But - on the hugely positive side - this was a fast and enjoyable read. I liked some of the minor points - such as going to the planning department - and pointing out how much people tend to overshare on social media. I’ll most likely read another book by Ms. McQuestion as I found the writing style enjoyable.

Why does Sarah say she is house sitting at 214 Palmer Street? What is she looking for? Who is the anonymous woman who seems to be stalking her? Why is she hiding from her loving husband Kirk? And could the answer to any of these questions explain why she was attacked in her back yard months earlier?

214 Palmer Street is an intense, twisted thriller that moves seamlessly between past and present and is told in the voices of multiple narrators. The complicated plot is well constructed and the characters well described even if some (Gavin and Clarice) are not very likable. I can’t write any more without spoilers but this thriller will grab you at the first page. You won’t be able to put it down! 5 stars.
