I found 214 Palmer Street to be a bit predictable but still enjoyable! It felt slow in some parts- enough for me to be ready for the ending to wrap up. I did enjoy the tension and suspense in this book and I would definitely give another book by this author a try!
Book Review - 214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion 📚
*calm ya self - there's no spoilers!*
📕 We follow the story of Sarah, and her seemingly perfect suburban existence- handsome, kind, lovely husband, good career, beautiful home...so what exactly is Sarah doing at 214 Palmer Street, in the middle of the night? And what is she going to do when she is spotted by a neighbour?
📘 214 Palmer Street has several mysteries to unravel, including a 30 year old mystery involving Sarah's husbands childhood home, a missing boy, new friends...and enemies!
📗 Every character on the book is perfect in making the story come alive and add more and more layers each time they appear in a chapter - I loved the Sheriff in particular and trying to predict how he may or may not know more than it appears...
📓 I thoroughly enjoyed 214 Palmer Street, it was a real easy to read page turner, that really kept me guessing. I'll DEFINITELY be reading more from @karenquest it's an easy peasy

📚 214 Palmer Street is out now! 👍
This book was so addictive and I could not put it down. Also it was fast paced and very good gripping plot.
The book revolves around the Sarah who at first appears to be naive and can be easily manipulated but as the story progresses we can see how strong and intelligent she is. She finds herself at the place she wasn't supposed to be and doing things she should not ne doing. She was attacked in her flat and since then she is questioning and second guessing and not trusting anything easily. She starts to suspect her husband. Her husband who is "very nice" person....is he really what he shows he is or there's something behind all that fake persona ?
I can't say more without giving away many spoilers but if you like to read about psychological thrillers I'd definitely recommend this book!
I did not completely enjoy this book. I truly look to connect and become invested in the characters & what’s going on… but I just couldn’t for this particular read.
I personally love a good suspense novel and I feel like this one really lacked the suspense I was craving.
Additionally, I found the plot to be a bit predictable. Therefore, I was easily bored.
Unfortunately did not enjoy this one!
I was excited for this book as I currently live in boring suburbia and often let my imagination run away with me on what is going on behind closed doors. However, this book couldn’t keep my attention. After stopping and started many times, I eventually just put it down for good.
Karen McQuestion wrote such a thrilling, bone chilling book here. I found myself staying up way past bedtime to finish this one.
I don’t know what to think of this story. It was somehow incredibly predictable, and somewhat boring, but fast paced. There was a lot going on, and it was almost confusing for a while. It starts with the present with Sarah getting attacked and getting a head injury. But then it goes back to the past so often it’s mostly following that story line, rather than the present story line. It also stars with telling who the narrator is, then shifts to not telling you and the reader just has to figure out who the narrator is for this chapter.
I would say overall it wasn’t for me. Also the ending really dragged on trying to tie up any loose end, whereas it just kept going and going and didn’t need to do it.
Karen McQuestion knocks it out of the park with this domestic thriller showing just how fragile our home lives are, even in the coziest of neighborhoods!

Synopsis: When Maggie sees the beautiful Venetian blinds moving in the Caldwells’ front window, she freezes. Her favorite neighbours Cady and Josh are away, so who is in their house? The pretty young woman who answers the door tells a convincing story. She’s Sarah. The house-sitter. Just here for a month. Yet she can’t help but wonder why Cady never mentioned Sarah. What Maggie doesn’t know is that on the other side of the door, Sarah is starting to panic. No one was meant to see her at 214 Palmer Street…
My Thoughts: I was so excited when I got approved for this book, as it was really hyped up. However, the book had a good start that initially keeps me engaged, then the middle was very slow, I almost did not finish reading it. Then the ending picked up some, as is typical in a thriller. The book is narrated by Sarah, Kirk, and mystery character, alternating the chapters between them, in their perspective. The timeline does alternate between current and past timelines. The characters were not what I had expected, they were run of the mill thriller characters with no depth. The plot and storyline just was not plausible, the characters are making bad decisions, and I could not connect with the characters. I would give this author another shot in another novel, but this one just did not work for me.
Slow and drawn out… meh. Not my favorite thriller lately and definitely not the best book I’ve read by this author either.
Better than expected. Interesting concept and good execution. it's fast paced with lots of lies and twists. The predictability didn't bother me much and was intrigued by the characters
214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion is a wonderfully written domestic psychological thriller. There are lies and twist, with interesting characters and multiple view points to enhance the story telling. Brilliant read.
Grateful for the ARC.
214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion was my first book by this author and boy it will not be my last.
This book was so good. The title and the cover are why I chose this book.
The characters were complex and well written.
And the twists...and lies and oh my goodness the ending, it was SO good.
This book is told in dual timelines, present day and six months ago, along with two narrators. I found the story to be fast paced as I finished it in about four hours. I really liked the main character, Sarah, and liked following along with her as she tried to figure out what actually happened at 214 Palmer Street. The rest of the characters were hard to like especially Clarice.
The story seems to take place in a small town as everyone knows each other and nepotism abounds especially in the police department. The conclusion to the mystery that Sarah is trying to solve turns out a little silly, especially as what happened is described. One of the revenge scenes in the epilogue was a little silly and petty, but I did like the other one.
Yes, nosy neighbours! We all have them, don’t we! We also don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.
214 Palmer Street is the perfect domestic thriller, and it’s told from various points of view in the past and present. You are treated to lies, secrets, twists and some great action. It’s fast-paced, with lots to figure out and intriguing characters. I loved it!
214 Palmer Street contains an interesting premise as in, Sarah, a naïve and trusting person, is in a house where she isn't supposed to be, doing things she isn't supposed to. She was attacked in her home some months back and since then she has been having uncomfortable bad feelings about her life and her marriage. She begins suspecting her husband isn't who he appears to be and starts doing everything she can to find out the exact truth about a tragedy that occurred during his school days. Her efforts unravel a big can of worms and shakes the foundation of many people's lives. We eventually find out what really happened in a short and mostly fast-paced psychological thriller with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting and make the story a fairly enjoyable read.
I can't say I actually was convinced by most of the characters, their behaviours and their motivations, however. They all seemed to me, to be put together in a certain manner, to forcefully create a story; they just don't appear real and their interactions almost always strike a false note. I couldn't connect with any of them at all. And many of their actions seem improbable. I don't think it is likely for any person to come across so many people like that all at once.
However, this book is for you if you want to read something which is fast, can hold your attention fairly well and not very complicated. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for this ARC; all opinions expressed here are my own.
The write up of this book made it sound fast-paced and full of suspense, but I struggled. Everything, from the plot to the characters, was predictable. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, and could not get invested in the story.
This is not your typical Karen McQuestion book ! You need to go into it with an open mind ! If you do, you will love it ! I really enjoyed it and am grateful that I got to read an ARC of it before it was published. Shame on me for not reviewing it sooner, I thought that I had ! I truly appreciate the different genres this author is willing to try. She put herself out there with this book, show her some love ! It really is a great story !
The blurb for this one grabbed me, I wanted to know what Sarah was doing in that house… I’m glad I decided to find out as this was a well plotted psychological thriller that had me guessing at exactly what was going on and what secrets were being hidden for a long time. I never did quite manage to work it out before it was revealed.
Sarah is an interesting character who as we got to know her a bit more at first seemed like a bit of a naïve and easily manipulated but we came to discover that underneath her fairly meek exterior was a woman with a backbone and the courage to see things through no matter what it may cost her.
I took a fairly quick dislike to her husband Kirk who on the surface was a ‘nice guy’ always putting Sarah first but there was something about his niceness that seemed manipulative. He was well written but not a character I would like to spend time with should I come across them in real life.
I won’t say too much more about the plot because I don’t want to give anything away. If you enjoy a well written psychological thriller this is definitely one you should pick up.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book quite a good read, but a little choppy in the writing process, and long-winded in parts.. Still I would read another book by this author.
