A good read, keeps you wanting to know what's next. I enjoyed it and ready it fast. My only criticism would be that, although the different viewpoints were well-written and easy to follow, it lessened the impact of secrets and surprises. There were no real shocks, as all the characters' thoughts were on display. Other than that, a quick read.
214 Palmer St. Hmmm.....This title just begs for answers to questions about this address. What's going on there and why that house? Curious minds want to know! This intrigue and mystery caught my attention and I was going in! Ms. McQuestion took me on a thrilling ride as I got aquainted with the main character, Sarah. From the first page this story "knocked" on my reading mind and I had to answer the door. This book is filled with suspense, mystery, intrique and heart-stopping action. The twists and turns were enough to spin my mind and to keep me reading to find out what happens. The plot was paced perfectly and created palm sweating apprehension for me. The characters were developed well and I got a feel for who they were from her descriptive characterizations. Some of them were people I liked and then others not so much...which makes for a great cast. I had suspicions of "who did it" but I was stunned as the plot unfolded. It messed with my mind in some places. What a thrill!
I liked the way the story is told from MPOV and getting into the minds of the different characters. There's even a mysterious character who isn't identified until later in the book. Fantastic!
For a great Karen McQuestion read, I recommend "knocking" on the "door" of this book and stepping through. It will keep you up wanting to know whodunnit, for sure!
Karen McQuestion is an author I have read many times and I have enjoyed her books very much. I want to thank her for the honor of reading this fantastic book. All opinions and thoughts are my heartfelt own.
Fun, Quick Thriller That Could Have Used Better Editing. This was a book that starts slow - nowhere near as slow as The Great Gatsby, but definitely on that end of the speed spectrum. But like Gatsby, the writing and pacing eventually get much stronger and towards the back of this already shortish (280 ish page) book, the pace very much picks up into a quick sprint to the finish, followed by perhaps too much epilogue after the climax - but any runner will tell you that cool down is important, and such an extended epilogue does that well and likely reduces any book hangover here. Indeed, the only real complaint I have here is that particularly early, the transitions between character perspectives could use a LOT more clarity - one of the things that helps the back parts of the book is that these become more clear by that point, and it is much easier to see who we are following along with at any given moment in these later sections. Still, not enough of a problem for me to drop a star, though I could see others doing so and it is at minimum worthy of mentioning. Overall still a good book that provides a nice brief escape from reality, perfect for those times when you need something to occupy 3-4 hours or so. Such as maybe when a kid or spouse is at some sports practice or some such? Very much recommended.
A tad confusing with all the narrators telling their points of view and stories but non the less a quick to read psychological thriller with twists and turns, likeable and very unlikeable characters feature,on the whole a good read
Sarah knows her husband is hiding something after she is knocked unconscious with a rock in her own back yard. As she tries to remember things she has forgotten since her injury, she stumbles upon a long-ago mystery of a missing teenager who was her husband's friend.
Karen McQuestion has crafted a fabulous tale of the consequences of teenage self preservation and the realization that secrets don't stay secret forever.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC for an honest review.
This book was alright. It was a quick, easy read with an easy to follow plot. This would be a great book for someone trying to get into reading / get back into reading.
I thought the plot was a little too predictable. There wasn't anything that happened that I wasn't expecting. However, it kept me engaged enough to read this book over 2 days.
The characters were interesting. A couple were pretty unlikeable - I'm not a fan of controlling / gaslighting husbands and Sarah's love for him was little cringeworthy.
Sarah is hit in the head with a rock one day in her back yard. As she is recovering, she begins to learn more and more about her husband, Kirk, and his secrets and his past. Determined to get answers and see if Kirk really is the man she thinks he is, Sarah begins investigating. Not wanting to tip off the Gavin, the chief of police AND Kirk's best friend since high school, Sarah decides to take matters into her own hands to get to the truth,
I really liked this story! Some parts were a bit predictable, but there were other pieces that completely surprised me! The chapters switch off from different character's points of views, which I loved. It really helped get a better understanding of the present and past from everyone's perspectives. A few of the details felt a bit repetitive across chapters, but all in all I enjoyed the writing and the story! The ending sums things up nicely which I always appreciate in a book, especially one with so many different characters. This is my first book by this author, but certainly will not be my last!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat mystery/thriller! I really enjoyed this one, as well as the fun game of "whodunnit" that played in my head throughout. I was not expecting the ending, even if I had my hunches a bit towards the end. Some of the characters in this one irked me a bit, due to their personalities. Some of them seemed fitting for their character, but others not as much.
I would recommend this to those that always enjoy tearing through a good thriller~
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing a digital ARC in exchange for a review.
This is a book that required a lot of patience. I'm not sure I would've finished it if I didn't want to honor my NetGalley agreement. By one-third into it, I was still full of questions, confused by so many characters, and getting whiplash by the POV format that jumped from one person to another. Finally, finally the pieces started to fit together. The more they did, the more predictable it became. But I just didn't care that much. All of the characters are terrible, vindictive people. Even the protagonist, Sarah, was unlikable. This is my 3rd Karen McQuestion book and, sadly, my least favorite.
Karen McQuestion utilized several storylines intricately weaved together to bring the most mystery and intrigue. A creative and enjoyable read that leaves you guessing about what comes next.

214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion
⭐️⭐️
With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance reader copy, in return for my honest review.
Ever since Sarah was attacked in her backyard, she hasn’t been herself. At the suggestion of her husband Kirk, Sarah quits her job to stay home and rest. With all this extra time on her hands, Sarah begins digging into her husband’s past. She soon discovers a secret that brings her straight to 214 Palmer Street.
What really happened at 214 Palmer Street? That's what Sarah is on a mission to find out. She pretends to be house-sitting for a couple who currently live at the address, and Sarah is determined to get to the truth about what happened so many years ago and how her husband could be involved.
Sounds good, doesn't it? I expected tales of betrayal, revenge, and secrets galore.
However, that’s as far as the intrigue went for me. The plot twists were signposted, multiple unlikely scenarios, strained, unnatural dialogue, and the conclusion highly predictable.
Plus, the motley cast of characters were all rather unlikable, with our main character, Sarah, lacking any sort of real personality.
With all that said, this book may still appeal to those readers who are newer to the thriller genre, the twists aren't so ‘shock and awe’ in the way of a more developed thriller, yet there is enough mystery to keep you flipping quickly through the pages.
The good news is this book is on the shorter side, so if you are fascinated enough by the blurb, go ahead and dig in.
214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion
Sarah is married to Kirk and they are so happy, Kirk adores Sarah and cannot believe how lucky he is to have her as his wife. One day Sarah is violently attacked in their own backyard, she is hit in the head hard enough to fracture her skull, but who would do that? The road to recovery is a slow one. One day after spending the day with her mother-in-law Sarah uncovers a secret from Kirk’s past, his best friend Jeremy one day left town and disappeared, but when she questions Kirk about it, he tells her Jeremy must have been killed hitchhiking but Sarah now has more questions that need to be answered and she decides to do her own investigating.
The story is written from many points of views but the way Karen McQuestion brings the views together is brilliant.
I Loved this book! I loved how the story flowed and intertwined from one chapter that was written from one character view point to the next with another character picking up the story.
The drama and suspense are excellent. This is the first book I have read by Karen McQuestion but I am already on the lookout for another one of her books to read.
I think I have found another favourite author in Karen McQuestion!
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
The first 2/3 of 214 Palmer Street by Karen McQuestion was a slow burn but interesting. I had it figured out for the most part. However, the last 1/3 was a whirlwind of a ride and had me on my toes in trying to figure out what each character was going to do.
The ending to 214 Palmer Street was satisfying and surprising. It was a very good story. I will read more from this author.

This had the potential to be a really great book but it was let down by the execution.
There are multiple time lines and multiple narrators, you're not always told who the narrator it and, although I'm a huge fan of both multi POV and multiple timelines, I just found this confusing. I do think that confusion was the intention of the author but it stopped the book from being enjoyable.
From the cover I was expecting evil person moved into someone's house while they're away, and it being all about taking over their lives. It's not like that at all. I won't spoil it for if you wish to read it but I found the "clues" to be a bit clunky and obvious.
A dark and twisty tale. Told from various points of view, we had insights into different characters. An unexplained attack on Sarah leaves her life completely changed and makes her question everything. What she learns is nothing is as it appears.
An intriguing tale from a fantastic writer. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoture for the opportunity to read an advanced copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this simple and mysterious novel about love, regret, passion, mistake and unprecedented decision. Maggie noticed that there was somebody in her neighbor house but her neighbor already left few days ago. She know nobody is supposed to be there. In that house Sarah is hiding from somebody and no one is supposed to see her there. Sarah will do anything to complete her work and we never know why she is there until you read it.
A note arrives in a mailbox announcing that the son has left. Two decades later, more notes arrive to a different mailbox declaring "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID". A quick easy-to-read thriller with lots of twists and turns. Good read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
I read Moonlight Child and enjoyed it so was really hoping this was another hit but it just missed the mark for me. I feel like the writing was rushed and written by a novice. So much of it came across as almost cheesy. The plot was unique for the most part but the twists and what happened was predictable very early on and I quickly lost interest. I did read it quickly but more so in a sense I wanted to get it finished not so much that I was enjoying it so much I couldn’t stop reading. The pace was its redeeming factor and because it was such a short book, it moved along quickly.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of this book. An interesting book with a far fetched story line for the main character Sarah. Sarah goes to extreme lengths to find out the truth about her husband's past and his possible involvement in the disappearance of a high school friend. It was a quick read and enjoyable but a bit unrealistic. I would recommend.
I loved THE MOONLIGHT CHILD, so I was eager to read this title. Unfortunately, this book did not hold my attention, and I found the plot to be convoluted and contrived. The characters were one-dimensional, naive, and annoying. There were no red herrings and no sense of urgency to develop the plot, which moved along at a slow pace. The whole thing felt like a Lifetime movie in which the story is so dull, the characters feel the need to say and do everything dramatically just to increase the drama. It doesn't work in the movies, and it didn't work in this book.
