Love romances with an actor type character sprinkled throughout really enjoyed this one

Rebecca isn't looking for love. She's perfectly happy with her high-flying city job, gorgeous flat overlooking Hampstead Heath and fortnightly fling with the hot CEO. She's certainly not interested in the hot actor neighbour who's just moved in opposite...

Jack is still looking for his big break. It turns out being the star talent at drama school doesn't give you a golden ticket to Hollywood, after all. The last thing he needs is any distractions right now - especially not the uptight, power-suit wearing girl next door.

I absolutely adored Lorrain Browne’s debut and have fallen in love with the characters in this beautiful second novel just as much!

The story is told in the first person from the alternating perspectives of Rebecca and Jack. Rebecca works in marketing in the city and whilst every now and then she meets up with Tyler, the American CEO of the company she works for, she definitely isn’t looking for love. Not after her partner of 16 years left her and she’s still living in the flat that they chose together, on her own. Jack is still searching for his big acting break and finds himself living in the same block of flats near Hampstead Heath as Rebecca. He is staying in his friend Tom’s flat who is currently in America, with his acting career definitely not in limbo. For Jack, the last thing he needs is any distractions right now, especially not from his neighbour Rebecca! They may only live a few metres away from each other, but their worlds couldn’t be further apart. And opposites don’t really attract...do they?

I absolutely loved this book and seeing how Rebecca and Jack’s interactions changed and developed as the weeks and months passed by. They were both such wonderful characters and I had a real soft spot for Jack straight from the outset and just loved him even more as the book progressed. I also really enjoyed learning more about his acting, both in the past and in terms of his present opportunities. I couldn’t wait to get back to both of their chapters though, and seeing what was happening for them in their respective lives and careers.

I thought it was clever how it was made clear quite early on that Rebecca had a fear linked to hearing an ambulance siren or seeing an ambulance itself, and I liked being able to think about this as I was reading. When she visits her Nan in her care home and we learnt a few more details about Rebecca’s earlier life, I had an idea of the relevance/truth and I liked how a few more details were revealed and things hinted at as the story developed.

I also absolutely loved Clive, the elderly neighbour in one of the downstairs flats who Rebecca and Jack would both help whenever they could. They shared so many wonderful and moving scenes together and I thought he was just brilliant!

Right from the beginning Jack and Rebecca were both characters I really cared about and I knew I wasn’t going to want to say goodbye to either of them when this story finished! That is exactly how I felt when I finished this book even though I loved the ending!

I honestly cannot recommend this beautiful story enough!

A classic will they won't they. What's not to love?!

Rebecca is a high powered career woman with an upcoming promotion that everyone says is in the bag (even if she's not sure she even wants it). She's also out to meet men and have some fun, but since having her heart broken by her boyfriend of 16 years, she's 100% certain she doesn't want anything serious for a while.

Jack is a struggling actor and parttime (but becoming closer to fulltime) barman. He's feeling disillusioned after not landing any notable roles and currently has an agent who barely answers his calls. But he can feel his big break on the horizon and definitely doesn't have time for anything like a relationship in the near future. He has to focus on his dreams.

Following a less than neighbourly clash between Rebecca and Jack we see their relationship shift slowly but surely from animosity to friendship and beyond, with the help of their downstairs neighbour Clive of course.

Sorry I Missed You was everything I needed in a book. Warm, fuzzy, funny and unimaginably frustrating at points. Though thankfully the support characters took it upon themselves to yell at our protagonists communicate, so I didn't have to.

Did I know where this book was going from the moment I picked it up? Yes.
Did that take away from my enjoyment? Not even slightly.

If you're looking for a romance that'll have you smiling like a goof but also sucker punch you in the feelings, I highly recommend Sorry I Missed You!

Right from the start you want Jack & Rebecca to get it together. Despite only living across the landing from each other, it takes a while for the couple to realise they are made for each other, despite having such different lives. Thoroughly enjoyed this book

Fairly average and predictable story about neighbours who bond with a common thread of an elderly neighbour.

I found this book to be a really lovely, easy read. The characters of Jack and Rebecca were down to earth and relatable and the development of their relationship from neighbours to friends was great.

All in all, a perfect summer rom com read. Definitely recommend it. Thanks to netgalley and Orion publishing for my e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I love an opposites-attract rom-com, and I LOVE anything with a bad-ass woman CEO. Sorry I Missed You had everything for me, from a great cast of secondary characters to a very believable love story. It was a fun and quick read that had substance, and I simply couldn't put it down.

The perfect book for a summer beach read!

I loved Lorraine’s debut last year so was really excited to get stuck into ‘Sorry I Missed You’ and it did not disappoint.

I really enjoyed the slow build between Jack and Rebecca, whilst they started off on the wrong foot, it was lovely to see their relationship blossom over time. The best thing was this all happened whilst they took the time to really grow and develop on their own.

My favourite part was their friends begging them to just talk to each other rather than just assume anything - something i regularly find myself shouting at books.

A very heartwarming and charming read!

Thank you NetGalley and Orion Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

With relatively low stakes and an endearing cast of characters, this book ended up feeling like a warm comforting hug. Just because it wasn’t dramatic, doesn’t mean it wasn’t engaging. The first half of the novel focused on building up Rebecca and Jack’s own backstories, familiarising the reader with their own personal challenges. This got me invested in their separate storylines before the pair even properly interacted. Rebecca and Jack barely crossed paths in the beginning of the book but still managed to cross each other’s minds. They also unwittingly paralleled the other in their thoughts and actions – hinting at their deeper connection.

When Rebecca and Jack’s tentative friendship started to grow into something more, charming side characters were on hand to help the hesitant pair decipher what they were feeling. I particularly liked Rebecca’s grounded and realistic friendship with Val. Rebecca and Jack’s own friendship felt natural as it was rooted in genuine interest in and concern for the other. This meant when they eventually did get together, I was already cheering them on.

Outside of the romance, I thought it was interesting how the novel highlighted how biased a person’s perception of other people can be, often leading them to be completely wrong. The book cleverly made the most of this by telling its story from two perspectives. This emphasised the sometimes amusing disparity between personal assumptions and the truth.

Just like the romance which slowly blossomed between the main characters, this book was sweet, unassuming but totally endearing.

This was such a cute romance that is perfect for pure escapism!
I really enjoy storylines where the characters don't get off to the best of starts and slowly but surely their opnions change and they start to fall for each other... and that was excatly what happened with neighbours, Rebecca and Jack.

The slow burn was on point and I loved the fact that Jack had his own insecurities about not being good enough for Rebecca. He was a really likeable character. Rebecca was also someone who had been though alot of heartache so she was understandly cautious.
I think that's why they worked so well together because they didn't dive straight in. They were friends who slowly got to know each other.

This opposites attract was a light hearted, easy read with the right amount of humour and emotion to keep me engaged.

However, once again, as with alot of romances I've read lately, there was NO epilogue! It would have been nice to see them even slightly further into the future as it comes to a very abrupt end, but all in all, I enjoyed Sorry I Missed You!

Thankyou to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!

Rebecca thinks she does not need any more serious relationships until she meets Jack. Jack is a loveable out-of-work actor who lives next door to Rebecca. They do not get on at first but circumstances brings them together in an unusual way. Read this romance as it will not disappoint.
