This was a free ARC through netgalley. This tone is not for me, and neither is this author's story telling style. I struggled to buy into and was distracted by many themes.

To say that this novel is strange is an understatement. It is a classic postapocalyptic dystopian political satire... and what else? A dash of science fiction and a good dose of anxiety. Maybe even a bit of psychoanalysis. The protagonist is apparently the last pig left on Earth, moreover equipped with superpowers, cared for and supported by three unlikely humans. In reality, the real protagonist is fear, fear for the future that comes from a certain understanding of the effects of past mistakes. Will we manage to become human again? Perhaps we will, as the super pig manages to bring out the pig-like nature of the human servants of power.
Despite being brilliantly written and inspirational at many points, I must admit that at others it is too strange to be entirely enjoyable.

Heart of Swine by Freddy . F. Fonseca I wanted to read something different. Unfortunately, I chose something that just didn’t work for me. I occasionally enjoy Utopian and Dystopian books but not in this case. The story of a mind reading pig, undeveloped male characters and a woman with unfortunate body functions just did not appeal to me.

Whoa, this book was so good!

The cover screams Orwell, but the contents remind me more of Kafka or even Bulgakov. That’s huge praise!

The funny, charming, interesting, and clever elements were really well-balanced. The political satire was witty but still digestible, and I think this book was released at the perfect time.

The one criticism that I had was that the “plot” seemed to fall apart and get muddled around the halfway mark. The characters’ motivations were already a little flimsy, but they just kind of deteriorated as the story progressed… to the point where the gang was doing stuff but I had no idea why they were doing that stuff.

Also, there were a few minor formatting errors with the epub version as well as a couple of typos (I think one of them was using “who’s” instead of “whose”). Editor must have been sleeping a little, but these small things matter when the book is so short.

Otherwise, this reads like a novella written by a seasoned author who has the liberty to play around with style. I can’t believe it’s a debut. I’m definitely going to pimp copies of this out to every millennial and Gen-Zer I know.

I’m so looking forward to reading more by this author. They clearly have a lot of substance inside their head.

If I am honest, the main reason I requested this book is because of the pig on the cover lol I know, insane, but sometimes you have got to have a little fun. lol

When I read the synopsis, panic set in as I thought this would be beyond my realms of understanding and leave me very confused, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Not only did I understand it, but I enjoyed it too.

I will leave you to read the synopsis as I do not think I would do justice in explaining this delightfully bonkers book.
A fabulously bizarre and thought-provoking story about issues that are very relevant to the world we live in today.
Sometimes it takes a wacky satirical book for people to stop and take notice. We as humans are greedy, destructive, and consumed by wanting and not caring about the cost to the future.
I felt pangs of guilt and so hypocritical. I love pigs! They are beautiful animals and have been a source of comfort & joy throughout my life, yet I never think twice about eating bacon or any meat products for that matter. But that is the battle I face daily. I can't promise to become a vegan or even vegetarian, but I will be making more of a conscious effort in my day-to-day life in the hope my kid's kids' future is bright.

Let's put aside the political and environmental issues because this book is bloody funny! Yes, it falls into a very niche category, and you might have to be a little weird to enjoy it (not sure what that says about me. lol), but I laughed out loud a lot. And I am sure if anyone looked at me while I was reading it, they would have seen a shocked look on my face several times.

Thank you so much NetGalley & BookBuzz.Net, for the arc ebook gift in return for my honest review.
