Janice is a cleaner and she collects stories. It could be random people on the same bus of stories from the people of the places she cleans but always true stories and given freely, with the exception of overhead conversations.

She's asked which book she would take on a desert island and answers “Vanity Fair. Lots of stories within stories. Well-written, great humour, delightful sense of the ridiculous, and what a cast of characters.” which pretty much sums this book too. I found myself wanting to know Beckys story just as much as Janice did.

Decius the fox terrier is quite the character as are all the people she meets. I loved her friendship with Mrs B and how they both seemed to need each other without actually realising it. I found it quite sad in places but uplifting in other parts and overall I really enjoyed this book.

I listened and read along with an audiobook. I always experience a much better story this way. I liked the narrator she was able to introduce a certain charm to each character with her different voices for each person.

Janice is a cleaner. She is an ordinary woman who goes about her business quietly visiting each of her clients daily by bus and collecting stories - sometimes overheard - and sharing them with us. However sharing her own tale with a is a different story! This audiobook, narrated by by Jessica Whittaker, was so beautifully expressed and was so uplifting. Occasionally I found myself drifting off and losing interest but at the end of the day I thought that the character of Janice was remarkable and she made the book! Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins for the chance to review this audiobook.

Well this book was a shocker- I didn’t expect it to be so good. The main character Janice is just the nicest person you’ll ever read about. The way she cares for others is by hearing their stories, she becomes their friends as well as their cleaner. The characters she meets are quirky and some quite cunning. I loved all the stories Janice gathered about other people. I listened to this as an audio book and although some of the narrators accents were a little odd, she did help bring the quirky characters to life.
This is one of those books that just makes you smile. There are challenging topics and bits that are a wee bit sad, but overall it’s a heart warmer.
