Florence Nightingale

Well deserving of her place in this inspiring and thoughtful series; often championing more recent influences and famous people.
Here is one I truly knew a little bit about before reading Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara’s mini biography of Florence Nightingale.

As always beautifully illustrated with a gentle palette of colour. Enhancing simple words to carry the story to a young audience.

Florence was fortunate to receive a better education than most young girls. But against her parent’s wishes she found her desire to help others overtook more accepted futures via a wealthy marriage, expected of women in her time. Instead with determination and hard work she studied the art of nursing care. By her authority later, amid a time of war, she revolutionised cleanliness and promoted high standards in hospital wards.
I have always been aware of her role in preventing death during the Crimean War but this is a book to cherish and motivate young minds as it shows a simple girl who had a lasting legacy.

Change can happen when ideas are shared, where voices and actions are heard and followed.

I do feel this series makes a difference in taking role models from their earliest days and showing how dreams can come to pass. Caring for others brings a different reward package; such life stories are still needed to show the lasting values for society. I am sorry that the additional hospital buildings built during the recent pandemic and known as Nightingales could not be brought into this far reaching life story.

Probably one of my favourite books from this series of books!
My daughter aged 5 had to learn about Florence Nightingale back in September, and we had researched basic facts about her, so I read this actually knowing some of her background. Shame this story wasn't around back then!
Great book, would recommend.

It’s so wonderful to read more about Florence Nightingale, especially her early years. I only really felt like I knew snippets of information about her but now I am much better informed. This book, from the much loved series, proved to be another hit with my young daughters. They listened intently and asked questions and loved the colours and illustrations. Thanks for bringing the story of Florence Nightingale to life!

I have read so many books in this series - the little people, BIG dreams series. I absolutely love this series and this book was just as great as the others.
I learnt a lot, many things I didn't previously know about Florence Nightingale. The book really does show how amazing she was.
As always, the illustrations are delightful too!

Thank you so much to Francis Lincoln Children’s and Netgalley.

Another amazing edition to the Little People, Big Dreams collection. I always enjoy these books, I always says they aren't just for the young ones. They depict people from so many different backgrounds who have inspired us and have lead such amazing interesting lives. These books will inspire children, who will learn from these and also will love the cute illustrations, which are done so well and depict the person's life brilliantly.

Florence Nightingale was such an amazing woman who I feel doesn't get noticed that much. She helped so many people, fighting for better hygiene in hospitals not just for the safety of the staff but patients as well.
Her father, who was ahead of their time, encouraged Florence and her siblings with education. Florence soon realised that finding a husband and going to balls wasn't for her and that helping people was he calling.

Florence was someone who didn't let anyone stop her doing what she wanted to do. She opened a nursing school and helped so many that it makes you think how much did she change and how different is it today just because 1 person decided to make a difference.

Thank you so much to Francis Lincoln Children’s and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

What an amazing woman she was all that she did to help people, she has always been an inspiring woman and I’m so happy that now young children can learn about her.

Just like her father who was ahead of his time period for providing education, she was too. She ensured she found ways to make everyone better, to ensure that these men were saved. With no care into patients at that time hygiene wise it was incredible she fought her way to ensure that it did exist, for the safety of everyone.

As I think I say pretty much every time I read one of these books, I love this series, they depict people from such a vast variety of backgrounds who all are so inspiring, all have a great story to offer and all who children can really learn from and I adore them and the cute illustrations too.
