Loved the sampler and excited to read the whole book! Just the type of book I like and now I'm desperate to read more

Typical McKinty...grabs you by the short and curlies within a handful of pages, then leaves you breathless. Frustratingly, I have only an advance chapter of The Island...
As a long-time McKinty fan, I have to admit to preferring his Sean Duffy books to the recent The Chain, but nevertheless that was a terrific book and I'm hoping The Island will be at least as good as that (and the signs are very positive!)
The great thing about McKinty is his ability to escape pigeon-holing; yes, his books deal with crime and yes they are thrillers often with a psychological edge, but they are also worthy of being called "literary fiction" because his writing is solid, informed and intelligent.
PS: You lost a star for only letting me have a chapter! More please!

Thank you to Orion Publishing for the chapter sample - this is not a full book review.
I've been a big fan of the author since his brilliant Sean Duffy series, this latest looks like a winner too.
The start is a tension filled cracker which then backtracks and we then understand why newly weds Heather and Tom and his children Owen and Olivia are in Australia from the USA so Tom can attend a medical conference. The children are desperate to see wildlife and so far it's been a no show on a family day out. On a lunch break they meet Matt and Jacko who live on private Dutch Island which has abundant wildlife. They persuade them to allow a few hours visit where they definitely get more than they bargain for.
The scene setting is excellent and you get some colourful and vibrant descriptions of Australia with some powerful and foreboding imagery at the beginning. The island seems a fantastic location for the bulk of the novel.
You do get a sense of the characters, Heather seems to have plenty of gumption and comes across as very likeable, admitting to not finding life with stepchildren a breeze. As for Tom, the jury is out as he seems rather entitled and a bit flakey but time will tell.
It's very hard to judge and rate a book on a sample but the pace certainly picks up and it looks set to become an exciting thriller after a promising start and oh boy, does it end on a cliffhanger. Do I ever want to know what comes next!

Heather and Tom are Americans newly married, visiting Australia where Tom has a conference to attend. They have Tom’s 2 older children with them.
After a disappointing trip to try and see some Australian wildlife they are approached by a rough looking pair who negotiate a deal to take them to a small private island called Dutch island reportedly full of animals. Things then go badly wrong….
Firstly that prologue is a great hook! , it’s Valentine’s Day, and there’s murder in the air! There’s plenty of tension and suspense.
It’s fast paced and action packed.
It starts really strongly.
I hope that you will be putting the entire book on Netgalley. I am a fan of the author. I loved the chain.

I loved The Chain so I was very excited to receive this sampler for The Island. Adrian McKinty appears to have done it again if this gripping and intriguing sampler is anything to go by.

One of those case that you can summarize saying "Here's my money give me the book ASAP"
Can't wait to read the rest

This was a really good taster that gave me an idea fo what was to come. I liked the style and it loks like it is going to be a great read. I cannot wait to read more.

Ok you got me, I’m totally hooked and now can’t wait for the rest!! Feed me now!!, please pleas3 please let me quench my thirst for the full book. I’ve already got everyone in my book group gagging for the release.

very intriguing start! i’m praying i get approved for this full book because i cannot wait to see where the story is headed!

It wasnt that clear that this was a sampler on the website, so I was a little disappointed to find out it was just the opening of the book. Having said that, I really enjoyed what i read and was interested to find out where the story will go. Giving this opening chapter a 4/5 score

I’m pretty sure this didn’t say it was a sampler when I requested it. I was so gutted when I came to read this and realised I only had the first few chapters.
Anyway, it is almost impossible to judge a book by the beginning as I’ve read so many books that start off good and deteriorate quickly. I’ve also read books that go the other way around: a slow burner and then peak in the middle or end.
I have no idea what this will end up being. It starts off good, and I’m intrigued by what I have read so far, but that is pretty much all I can say. I look forward to reading the book in its entirety later in the year!
Can't really rate it so have just one with the average rating of three stars.

Not sure I’m keen on samplers. I need the book now to see what happens but book doesn’t come out till May so I will have to reread the beginning again. But apart from that this seems like it going to be a really good read and I’m looking forward to it.

A gripping start! From these chapters I'd most likely read this book. The island setting and hints dropped as to what will come draws you into this thriller by Adrian McKinty. I liked the characters, they felt real and three dimensional.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this sneak peak at this book. I look forward to reading more when it comes out.

Sounds promising from this teaser. Looking forward to reading the full book at some point in the future.

This was only a sample of chapters, not the book itself. I didn't read it because I don't know if I will ever be able to get the book. I didn't want to get interested and then not be able to find out what happens. I rated only one star because it isn't the entire book.

I read all of Mckinty novels, and I am a great admirer of his work. The Duffy novels are a favorite of mine. I read and greatly enjoyed The Chain, and this taster promised and even more wild ride. Now i am eagerly waiting for this novel. Bring it on!

Great chapter. I can't wait the book. Very interesting. It will be a amazing book
#TheIsland #NetGalley

A great taster with this sampler from the author of 'The Chain'. There's a great hook in the prologue before jumping back to introduce us to an American family visiting Australia. Whilst on their travels they grab the chance to visit 'The Island' where all he'll breaks loose.

I really enjoyed McKinty’s last book The Chain which was a really original (and disturbing!) story so I was excited to see The Island is being released in May.
This book is set in Australia and we meet Heather, her husband Tim and her two stepchildren who are travelling from the U.S. to a surgical conference where her husband is the keynote speaker. Trying to placate the teens’ demands to see some native animals, the family set out for a drive and come across some locals who offer to bring them to their island. Heather’s friend had jokingly warned her of the dangers of the outback but Heather quickly realises that there are more sinister forces in Australia than just the native animals.
We only get to read the first 60 pages of The Island but what a start to the book! Completely engrossing and fast-paced, I can’t wait until it’s released. I was left wishing that I could see the next page of the book and all I could think of that age-old advice of how you should never trust a stranger!
Thanks to NetGalley and Orion for the sampler! The Island is out on May 26th.

I loved McKinty's The Chain so was super excited to try this. Although this was only a sampler I can't wait to read the entire thing when it's released. This is definitely going to be a read in one sitting type of thriller! Can't wait :)
