A Psychological thriller by a UK author who is new to me.

Karen is a busy working, being a wife and mom to 2 children. She feels in desperate need of some ‘me’ time. Her friend Evie tells her of a quiet holiday cottage.
But someone is watching and waiting… it doesn’t have the most enthralling blurb I’ve ever read.

It is told by 2 POV, Helen and Evie, with a bit from Peter. Evie is evil, Helen and her husband I didn’t really take to, I didn’t feel that their characters had any great depth.

It is mostly told in the present, but we get a look back in time to see the trigger.

It utilises a common plot device which I’d better not mention. I hope things hot up (no pun intended as it begins with arson).
It did warm up, but didn’t set me on fire. The first half I found slow, the pace picked up in the 2nd half. It ended stronger. I found it a quick easy read, but l felt that it was a bit predictable, and lacking the plot complexity and twists and turns that I have become used to with psychological thrillers

Having read The Passenger I was eagerly awaiting this new book and I am sorry to say how disappointed I was with it. I rarely give poor reviews because usually a book has something to enjoy about it, whether it’s the characters, the plot or the writing, but in this instance I’m failing to find anything to recommend I’m sorry to say.

Whirlwind of a thriller! I loved it. This author has a knack for writing the perfect thriller and delivering it at the perfect pacing. I am immediately identified with the main character and was absolutely rooting for her. Highly recommend!
