Sakura's Dedication Vol 1 by Fuyu Yukimiya is the first shojo manga I have read about the love that comes after the first, young, insecure, inexperienced love.
Sawa, our female MC, has had several boyfriends but her relationships all end with a bad breakup – just take her latest boyfriend who cheated on her.
When her classmate Sakura confess his feelings to her, she replies that he's not her type. He's okay with that and doesn't give up on making her like him, because as he says ”one's type and the person you fall in love with are often different”, and it doesn't take more than one chapter for Sakura to win over Sawa. It's the story that follows that's fun to read because Sakura is different from the guys Sawa normally dates, so while she might be experienced in dating and think she knows how things will play out, she's thrown when their relationship is so different from her earlier relationships. The ex-boyfriends and bad breakups are playing a role in the story, and in many ways is this a different take on the story about an insecure girl falling in love with a handsome, patient and understanding guy, but also a story about a girl that has to learn about herself, before she can find lasting love.
I found this read eye-opening. As a reader, you have no doubt that Sakura and Sawa are in love, and it's refreshing to read about love between lovers. Their different personalities clash sometimes – like their different ideas of what a perfect date is – but the story shows that as long as you are open towards your partner it will be alright, just as there will be situations where you can learn new things about yourself.
In this manga, we follow Hanasaki who just got cheated on by her now ex-boyfriend. Right after that, Sakura comes up to her and asks her out. At first, she rejects him but as he tells her he likes her a few more times and as he is really nice to her, she asks him if he wants to do anything together after school.
This was cute, though not extraordinary. Hanasaki’s ex-boyfriend appears a few times and is just so annoying, I kind of want to punch him. Hanasaki is quite shy in front of Sakura so it’s cute. I’m just not yet totally convinced by Sakura though he seems nice. I think there will be some drama in the next volumes
I recommend to people looking for a fast romance with a bit of drama
3/5
I think the couple in this manga are cute, however it did make me a little uncomfortable that Sakura was so persistent on being with Sawa.
Thank you Kodansha and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sakura's Dedication follows the story of Sawa a high school girl who just broke up with her cheating boyfriend and is immediately approached by her classmate, Sakura, who is interested in dating her. Initially, I found Sakura to be annoying. Men should respect women, especially when they say no, so I was a bit put off by his persistence.
While there are cute moments between Sawa and Sakura, I felt like the overall plot was lacking depth. Sawa's attraction to Sakura is his dedication to her. But we don't really see what she actually likes about him. All we learn about Sakura is his work ethic when it comes to studies and his determination to have Sawa fall in love with him.
Overall, it feels like this manga is cute and fluffy, but it's not something that I would want to continue.
4.5 stars
I am a little confused by the MC's extreme shyness with the male lead, since she's apparently had boyfriends before. (They never held hands or said anything nice to her ever? What was even involved in their going out?)
But the male lead is just so genuine and likable and patient with her that I can't help but be charmed.
Recommended as a sweet romance.
Thank you to Kodansha and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this manga.
OMG I need vol. 2 please!!!
This is a really sweet romance manga about a couple where she's very shy every time he says cute things to her.
Just so cute! This would be perfect for a nice anime.
This is the first series from Fuyu Yukimiya and it's really nice. Reminds me of the romance mangas from the 90's and 00's with a beautiful drawing and stories about students.
I enjoyed a lot and I can't wait for volume 2.
Arigatou Yukimiya-sensei!
After reading the blurb, we know that Sakura is going to be persistent in his attempts to win over Sawa. The first couple pages show this but we quickly resolve this bump. To be honest, at first I was a little put off even though Sakura was not in any way forceful in his attempts. Which is exactly why my initial hesitation only lasted a couple pages.
The rest of the volume is utterly adorable. There is a bit of a villain in Sawa's ex boyfriend but for the most part this is a feel good volume about two young kids in the early stages of dating. I very much enjoyed all of the blushing and mixed signals.
The art style is beautiful and the pacing was fine. Overall, I very much enjoyed this first volume and would love to pick up the second!
Big thanks to Kodansha Comics for the e-ARC of this title via NetGalley. This review is being given honestly and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a cute start to a series but I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. This came off as a little boring to me and I could not really connect to the story at all. Definitely think this could be up someone else’s alley but not mine.
Thank you for allowing me to read this comic. Overall I thought the main two characters were very well described and the characteristics rounded. The relationship between the main two characters was slow and sweet which kind of had me swinging and overall I thought the art style was great and I would carry on reading this series although there were some minor details that did annoy me such as on her having friends and him relatively not.
This manga was so adorable. I really related to Sawa and her being love shy. I’m not always the best at showing emotions either. Sakura is so sweet to her. I can’t wait to read more of this series and see what happens. Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review!!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC of "Sakura's Dedication Volume 1" by Fuyu Yukimiya
I loved this first volume of the series, it was so sweet and loving. Sakura wasn't really dedicated, the man only said it 3 times before they got together but I loved them both. Both characters were loving and honest, and they had great communication between them.
I would love to read the next volumes.
Thank Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this.
This is a very cute and fluffy story, about two high schoolers, Sawa, who is fresh out of a relationship with her cheating ex-boyfriend, is suddenly confessed to by a classmate, Sakura, who is described as nerdy. Initially turning him down stating that he isn't her type, he is determined and thus begins the story, as he continuously confesses to her, and ultimately finds herself drawn to him
This first volume moves very quickly, as they are very quickly now a couple. While I was hoping that this would drag onto the next volume, I look forward to see how their relationship will progress as the story moves on.
I have no words to describe how cute this book was. My only coherent thoughts after finishing this is that I need the sequel. Like now.
"Sakura's Dedication" is a rom-com manga about Sawa and her classmate Sakura. Sawa, fresh out of a relationship with her cheating ex, is confessed to by her classmate Sakura. She initially turns him down, but he is determined and the story goes on from there. I found the story to be somewhat cute and fluffy but very shallow. It also has very lovely artwork, so if you aren't looking for a lot of depth then you may enjoy this story.
Sawa’s suffering a humiliating break up after finding out her boyfriend has bee seeing other girls behind her back. Planning to take a break, she’s caught off guard when Sakura, overhearing the conversation, comes up and confesses he likes her. She rejects him, but Sakura is determined. He repeatedly asks her out…for maybe 3 days to a week before Sawa caves. And by caves I mean, confesses that she actually likes him back and is willing to date him to see how it goes (dating the class nerd is hard apparently)
Sawa quickly realizes that Sakura is a sincere and courteous boyfriend and starts falling for him. The only problem is the sincere things that come out of his mouth ( ex: “you’re so cute.”) make her blush. Sawa isn’t used to dating someone who’s actually a decent human being. Compliments are foreign to her, along with most forms of physical contact such as holding hands, hugging, etc. So Sakura makes her heart race with his honest compliments and gentle touches.
This is the book people should be advertising to teenagers. It’s quite apt. Sawa is awkward, overreacts, and worries that maybe Sakura will get tired of her being caught off guard and reacting poorly to his affections. Sakura is a smart young man who seems to understand what is going on with Sawa, to a degree, and is willing to wait for her to get more comfortable with him. He blunders is a few places after taking advice from a magazine, but in general is a good boyfriend. He often asks permission to do things such as hugging or holding out his hand for Sawa to decide to take or not. It’s sweet. Almost unbearably so.
We get to meet Sawa’s ex, who is a bit of a piece of work. This helps to add some more understanding to why Sawa is the way she is. Even as an older lady no longer in high school, I can relate to Sawa dating a cute, considerate man and struggling to shift her mind set after repeatedly being treated poorly by past boyfriends. Why is he so kind and honest? Why does he have no shame in showing affection in public? What is this completely different species of man from what I’m used to dating???
And the girl is awkward.
As a result of this we really see Sawa struggle to make herself more open with her affection to Sakura, who eventually sees what she is up to and comes back with reassurance and kindness that he won’t be leaving her anytime soon because of her awkwardness.
Conclusion?
It is unbearably cute and I am here for it. I cannot wait to read the next one!
Very very fluffy and adorable story. Good start, doesn't focus on "drama" mainly on the main character's fluffy interactions. The male lead can come off as strong and a tiny bit off putting in the beginning but that's not really the case. It's a cute and adorable romance set in highschool.
Hmm.... okay, this was a very weird one. I mean, story wise.
I did like the drawings: they are very classic and stylish.
But the story: I mean... what have I just read? it made absolutely.... well... very little sense. I can't say I enjoyed it, sorry.
There were some very cute moments though!
Sakura’s Dedication is a really fun and engaging romance manga that is just a delight.
Many Thanks to Kodansha and NetGalley for an advanced electronic copy in exchange for an honest review

Review:
Plot and world building- the story is set in a Japanese high school and follows Sakura and Sawa as they both look to become a couple, and includes some beautiful interactions between them, including Sawa’s specific insecurities because of her ex. It was genuinely quite refreshing to see the male lead Sakura find out about her insecurities and be so reassuring and supportive in such a way it helps Sawa develop[ as a character and allows for their relationship to truly blossom. Yes this is a Romance based comedy in some aspects and Overall, I really enjoyed the first volume,
The art style is beautifully soft in the lines of characters and very clean for the story, generally it was beautifully designed throughout. The plot was fast paced, kept me engaged throughout and the romantic elements were beautiful, it was a read that left me wanting the next volume immediately.
Characters and Plot
All the characters within the story were well developed and I loved the soft side of Sakura melded with the shy side of Sawa- it was a genuinely sweet connection that started and as it developed it was just so sweet and pure.
The Romance was one of the main reasons I picked this story, and quite honestly the beautifully imagined and developed characters, the gentle shy humour between and the emotional connection that grows between them is one of the reasons I requested this.
Final Verdict:
Overall an beautifully sweet, artistically clean manga with a cute romance plot that I genuinely want to read volume 2 as soon as possible.
The premise of Sakura's Dedication may seem a bit absurd if not slightly creepy but at least it's established right off the bat that Sawa is actually interested in Sakura. What follows is a wholesome shoujo manga with that Reiwa Energy where they don't really bother with much will they/won't they tension, they're both just navigating a relationship between two kids that already seems healthier than the previous one that started the plot. Sawa's ex makes two appearances, mostly to mess with her head, but doesn't actually succeed, so that was nice. My only issue is that the volume ends without any kind of hook that makes me interested in a second volume.
High school girl Hanasaki has dated a couple of guys, but hasn't been lucky in love. After her latest break-up, her classmate Sakura asks her to be his girlfriend. She's not so sure at first, but he's dedicated to showing her how much he likes her. I get nervous when a boy says he won't give up, but Sakura goes about it the right way. When Hanasaki realizes that she is attracted to Sakura, she begins to worry that he will get sick of waiting for her to get comfortable expressing her affection. But Sakura assures Hanasaki that she can go at her own pace. I enjoyed this sweet romance. These two are so good together and it's fun watching Hanasaki and Sakura's love grow.
