This manga followed a girl who works in a cafe, and both she and her male coworker love a specific idol (though they love different ones). Shortly after the beginning of the manga, he confesses feelings and the two of them begin to date,
I liked that both the main character and the love interest loved idols and could relate with their interests/passions in that way, They were cute together, but there wasn’t much establishment of their relationship and there wasn’t a ton of romantic chemistry between them - though maybe that will change in future volumes.
rating: 3/5 stars
This manga tells the story of an idol otaku (essentially a super fan), Akari Tachibana who works at a cafe with an 'otaku friend', Onda-san. Akari and Onda-san hang out and geek out over their idols together. Onda-san then confesses that he likes Akari and then they begin a trial relationship.
This is a very cute manga, the art style is very pretty, and the text is easy to read. It shows the basis of what being an otaku is in a very easy to understand way. There is a small showing of an extreme otaku towards the end of the story. It was cool to see how the interactions between the main characters shifted after their relationship started. Overall, this is a sweet story that moves along at a steady pace.
Very adorable manga. It's great to see a cute relationship of two people with similar hobbies and supporting each other. I'm excited to read more and see if it lasts.
I liked the concept of the manga, but the relationship between the two main characters wasn't convincing. They fall in love too quickly in the story, and there isn't a time when they act like they love each other. For me, their relationship was more platonic, and the scenes where it was supposed to show their intimacy for one another felt displaced. They didn't feel like a couple. The manga, however, was refreshing, and it was my first time reading a story about two fans falling for each other.
A very fluffy easy-read about a budding romance between two idol-worshipping co-workers. As someone with experience in idol fandom culture I found the supportive relationship between the two mains super sweet and relatable, but any fan of light romance manga will enjoy this. Although it did remind me of Wotakoi initially, this is much cutesier and more conventional so far. I'm interested to see how the story will develop in the following volume!
This was a very cute manga. It was a 'girl love' manga, no smut at all. It was very sweet with 2 cafe' workers. The female lead worked at a cafe' and was an okatu, which mean that she is wrapped up in idol events. She has a favorite idol who is a man. The male lead is the guy she works with, his grandmother owns the cafe' and he is an okatu also. I do not think either lead went to college and the female lead said the male lead was almost 30 years old. She didn't give her age. This manga is six chapters of how their relationship works with their idol loving. While the manga is super sweet and they go on a weekend trip together, they do not even kiss. I don't know if it is because there is another volume coming, or this was just the amount of relationship the author wanted to portray. Both characters are very cute. I really enjoyed the art, the story and the different chapters. I give this manga 5 stars.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this title. but what I got was very charming. Two co-workers are idol nerd buddies. Can I just say how refreshing it is to see a man being just as big of a idol nerd as our leading lady? Top that premise off with a sweet, budding love story between the two of them and you've basically got an easy recommendation for romance fans!.
What a cute read! I loved how most of the story was about a slowly growing relationship that is both awkward but wholesome. Our protagonists being in their mid to late twenties was a huge plus for me, and overall I just loved the healthy communication that occurred. I am very interested in seeing where this story goes in later volumes!
such a cute, sweet read between two otaku idol lovers who find themselves. opening up bit by bit in time. there were some scenarios and pacing issues that confused me slightly, but didn’t take away from the sweet tale of love and acceptance through shared infatuation!
4 cute and sweet stars for this manga~
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing a digital copy for review ^^
Akari and Onda-san are both big anime fans, or "otakus" that both work in the same cafe. They're both a bit awkward and decide to have a trial relationship to test things out. Some adorable awkwardness comes next, and a slow build to a possible romance between the two of them.
Overall, it was frustrating to watch some of their interactions, but regardless an adorable manga.
I FREAKING WISH I HAD THIS MANS!! I loved it, the art, the plot, this was perfect! Who doesn’t want a boyfriend you can FANGIRL with who also freaking looks like an idol. Ugh I wish! Cant wait to see what happens next !
Having an Idol-Loving Boyfriend is the Best! (Volume 1) is about Tachibana and her Coworker Onda. They become friends over their love of idols until one day Onda confesses his feelings for Tachibana. This starts their relationship.
This was super cute! It reminds me of Wotakoi because of the Otaku based story. I liked the relationship alot in this story and the art is pretty. I definitely recommend this manga if you like Wotakoi or any Otaku based romances.
I have to be perfectly honest here. I picked this manga up because of the adorable cover and title. What an eye-catcher!
But I was immensely thrilled by how addicting this story was! I loved both Akari and Ondo-san. They were so adorable. In fact, I finished reading this in one sitting.
If you love sweet romances, then this is a great one to pick up. I especially loved seeing how Ondo-san fangirled. This is a perfect manga for any fandom lovers or otakus! I can’t wait to read more!
I loved this volume so much more than I expected! I know Idols are a big deal right now but I'm a bit indifferent so I was going in without too high hopes... but I ended up loving this! Even if you aren't into the idol scene, this manga really focuses on the romance of two people with a common interest which I love!
Its a friends to more story and every page was adorable. I love the shyness and the uncertainty of these two. But to me, friendship is the best way to start a romance!
The art was very pleasing also if a bit different than what I am used to. There were a couple times when I had trouble telling the guys apart but it was definitely not enough to distract from my enjoyment.
I am not sure how many volumes this will end up being based on the current content but I am looking forward to the next one.
I liked that this book took a (small) stance about gender roles being dumb, and that the characters are encouraged to remain loyal to themselves after entering a relationship, but ther wasn't anything... special about this story. The most it did was make me curious about what is considered normal in idol culture in Japan.
Beautiful artwork but I don't like the story. There are mangas out there that are better than this manga.
I think a lot of people will like it. I just can't do the same.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC
Big thanks to Kodansha Comics for the e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. This review is being given honestly and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a really cute and quick read about friends who become more and share an interest in idols. I think the romance was pretty cute and loved how they kept their idol interest a part of their relationship.
If you are a fan of Wotakoi, you will probably enjoy this as it has similar vibes.
Thank you Kodansha and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Kinda cute, very fluffy, quick read. Not bad for a first installment, though I hope we get more depth to the characters in future volumes.
Not being a fan girl myself, that amount of obsession was a bit difficult for me to buy into, but plenty of people are like that, so I can suspend my personal disbelief easily enough.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC of "Having an Idol-Loving Boyfriend is the Best! Vol 1" by Mito Aoi.
I absolutely loved this first volume! Both of the two main characters had high levels of charm and I truly hope they stay together until the end. Their relationship was healthy and they both loved idols to the extent where they understood eachother.
I would love to read the upcoming volumes to see what happens next.
