This is a fab book for your food needs in a speedy manner. It is full of simple to follow recipes accompanied by mouth watering images.
Great recipes when you need something quick but impressive!!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy in exchange for my honest feedback.
Fast Feasts is a collection of 66 recipes with a middle eastern twist that John Gregory-Smith has been cooking for his friends and family over the past few years. He is on social media, dancing and jumping around like a small child (his words) if he likes the taste of something.
After the introduction from the author, there is a list of store cupboard middle eastern staples. The book is then divided into 6 main recipe chapters:
- Everyday easy (12)
- Easy Entertaining (12)
- Comfort Food (11)
- Low & Slow (11)
- Working from home lunches (10)
- Desserts (10)
The Everyday easy recipes can be made in under 30 minutes. One of the recipes has a tip for defrosting to make the sauce creamy but nowhere did it say the dish could be frozen so I was a little confused. Easy Entertaining includes lots of sharing recipes and Comfort Foods are simple homecooked meals that take longer than the everyday easy recipes.
Low and Slow are quick to prepare and generally cook over many hours, though some are ready in under 1 hour. Home lunches include salads, soups, and cheesy wraps. Finally, there are desserts; some are quick and some have to be frozen or chilled overnight.
Also included is a dinner party combo section that lists recipes from the book that go well together for various times, such as brunch, romantic, and mid-week for friends.
The recipes have both imperial and metric measurements for the ingredients. The steps are set out clearly and each recipe includes a colour photograph. At the end of each chapter, there are tips for ideas such as how to dress a salad, dips, 5 ways to flavour roast chicken, 5 ways with roast vegetables, 5 ways to flavour mayo, and pimping ice cream up.
If you like middle eastern flavours in everything that you cook then this is a good book to have on your shelf. I'd certainly like to try the Chorizo ragu with pappardelle, Afghan chicken curry and the Ferrero Rocher ice cream.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I really liked this cookbook and it is definitely one to have on the shelf for inspiration. The recipes are gloriously photographed to whet your tastebuds and I want to try almost every recipe in the book!
The book is well structured for easy use with only 6 different 'sections': I thought the working from home lunches was ingenious, given the current state of play in most households post-Covid! Manyrecipes look simple and quick to prepare - which is great for a week night. The list of ingredients seem reasonable, not prohibitive to obtain (helped by the excellent introduction about a good store cupboard) and I sure they will help each dish pack a punch.
It is written in a personal manner which made me feel like I am being invited to dinner by the author - can't wait to get on with cooking some of these.
4☆ A Hearty Cookbook
Fast Feast is a Heart-warming Cookbook with lots of delicious recipes that are Easy to Follow and has beautiful photographs to accompany each recipe.
The ingredients are measured in several metric weights making it so much easier as there is no conversion needed.
However some of the ingredients may need searching as alternative options may be required ie, molasses in the UK is Treacle.
The book is made up of different sections such as:
* Everyday Easy, * Easy Entertaining, * Comfort Food, * Low and Slow, * Working From Home Lunches, * Desserts.
So you can see there is plenty of inspiration to sink your teeth into.
I just wanted to point out the only thing missing is, there isn't a guide to tell readers if the recipe is Gluten free, Vegetarian, Vegan etc.. for example I expected that the BAKED SWEET POTATOES w i t h GREEN TAHINI was potentially vegetarian but once I read the description...bacon is added to the ingredients. I know it might appear a minor oversite and a little picky but to some cooks it's an important guide.
Overall Fast Feasts is a delicious and Hearty Cookbook with a Middle-Eastern Fusion.
Thank you to Welbeck Publishing UK and Netgalley for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Can’t review this title as book archived before I got chance to download it . Only got the approval email today so makes no sense ! Was looking forward to reading the recipes. I’m sure the author will be really pleased this has happened and probably not just to me. This has never happened before.
My husband hates me getting new cookery books, he is the most unadventurous eater I know. But (not telling him) I tried out a few of the recipes on him. He assumed that the food came out of a box from our local deli and said that he liked it and I could buy that again !
He loved the frying pan pizzas and even ate the salads.
A great success in our house.
Confession time! I have most of John Gregory Smith’s previous cookbooks, so was delighted to be able to preview his latest book- Fast Feasts. I can honestly say that over 90% of these recipes will be making their way to my food table. There is a very good mix of really delicious throw it all in tray bake type recipes, and others demanding a little more effort. All are well written and use what I would consider in these enlightened times to be staple cupboard ingredients, so no sourcing hard to come by expensive ingredients. There are very enticing pictures of the finished dishes, and I particularly loved the sections giving ideas for ways to ‘spice’ up different staples such as mayonnaise. I can see that this will be my ‘go to’ book for many months to come.
Great recipe book, full of useful advice. The recipes are easy to follow and this is a full range of dishes. Photographs are beautiful.
Fast Feasts by John Gregory-Smith is full of mouthwatering, easy to make, quick recipes. The food is flavoursome, looks delicious and is quick and easy. The photos make every meal look appetising and moreish.
The content seems really good, and I can imagine using the book regularly. The cover is eyecatching and appealing. However, this does not work as an E-book. Not sure if it was the file but it would be very hard to use as intended in this format. I would be more than happy to re-read the book with a better file or as a physical book as the book topic and genre is of interest to me.
This cookbook has everything I love - great photos, short and to the point recipe instructions and vibrant exciting dishes! It is presented in a great way which makes it easy to use and I look forward to cooking many dishes from it!
Everything looks delicious! The chef incorporates Middle Eastern cuisine with quick cooking steps, he offers beautiful pictures and introduces the readers to a variety of spices. I cannot wait to try some recipes out! Thank you to NetGalley, the chef, and the publisher for a gifted copy.
Fast feeds promises the reader quick but exciting, impressive looking but easy recipes. It's chapters are set up in the themes of easy, entertaining, comfort, low and slow, working from home and desserts. It provides a list of stable ingredients to have in the cupboard and combinations to aid you in dinner party planning. I felt like I had seen quite a few of the recipes in a similar way else where but there was enough inspiration for us to mix up our family favourites a bit, What I really like is the list of five that you get at the end of every chapter - five ways to dress your salad, dips for dunking, ways to season your roast chicken, varieties of roasted vegetable dishes, ways to flavour mayo and how to pimp your ice cream,
Beautiful recipes! Beautiful photography!
Loved this!
So many recipes that appeal to me!
Love! Love! Love!
Think it’s fair to say that I am a bit of a cookbook addict, I have shelves full of them but I’m always on the outlook for something that will give midweek inspiration for a family wanting more than just run of the mill meals and this certainly hits the mark
