Aurora Port leads a relatively normal life, though she is estranged from her father. When she receives a visit from an old friend informing her that her father is missing, she finds herself trapped in the middle of impending doom. She learns that there’s more truth to the mythology surrounding the Greek pantheon than most people realize, and that someone is attempting to release the Titans to destroy humanity. Can Aurora keep humanity safe? And can she decipher the secrets her father kept from her?
This was an interesting work of magical realism and a fresh retelling of Greek mythology. The plot was enjoyable and created many opportunities for twists that took me by surprise. The author did an amazing job at including modern interpretations of the gods’ personalities. For example, one of them was portrayed as a washed-up rockstar while another was an online dating guru. Details like this created a unique and modern take on the Greek gods that was refreshing and fun.
The book would have been more enjoyable if the romance had not been included. There was no chemistry between the two characters, and it was yet again another instant-love romance. It felt like between the turn of a page the male love interest went from being annoyed by her to telling himself he was in love. This detracted from the book for me, and their romance didn’t add to the story.
I listened to the audiobook version of this work. The narrator did an excellent job overall with the production My one complaint related to the narration was that one of the character’s had a southern accent and it was a little painful to listen to, but otherwise I enjoyed the narrator.
This was a fun and easy read. I recommend this work to readers interested in modern retellings of Greek mythology, urban fantasy, and romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this work through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I started this book with high hopes As Greek mythology has always been a great interest of mine, and is also a subject that I get asked for recommendations on quite often so I was very excited to read this book.
The plot of the book is well crafted and in it self interesting, which was the main reason I could finish this book, because I did want to know what would happen, there also was a plot twist that I did not see coming which was nice.
but unfortunately the writing is not very good. you mostly don't feel any emotional concretion to the characters, there are scenes that are so cliché that you can complete skip them and have guessed everything right. my biggest problem was the male MC, his character was out of place, instead of being his own person you felt like you are reading the perception of him, he felt like a mirror of others thoughts.
This is a difficult review to write. I wanted to love this book so much, I’m a Greek mythology fan. There were parts that were surprising, there was character who betrayed them that I didn’t see until it was revealed. The plot had really good potential, the Titans are going to be released and end the world. Greek gods live among us with diminished powers. A young woman discovers she is a Demi-god and has to work with the other gods to save humanity. Add to that a love affair with Hercules. Sounds great right?
Unfortunately, the story fell a little flat for me. It felt rushed, there was no chemistry between the two main characters, and they fell in love in what seemed like a minute. The book is under 300 pages (according to my audio book) and I feel if it was actually longer, with time to develop the characters more, add some tension between the two lovers it would’ve been a slam dunk. So, 3 stars ⭐️ for me.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Keymaker’sDaughter for a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a very interesting and modern twist on the Olympian gods. The new interpretation of what the Olympian gods would be doing with their time was fun as well as the new uses of their powers. Of course, they still have the petty or altruistic objectives that they were know to have in the past. What else would they be doing except through to take power? Aurora, the main character, is faced with new knowledge and a quest to find what has happen to her father as well as coming into her own along the way. The romance, mystery, struggles, and adventure that the main characters go through are everything I love in a modern romance. I listened to the audiobook version and the first chapter was a little slow. But as soon as the adventure began, I was engrossed and ended up listening to it for hours at a time. Finished it in two days.
A great concept, I really enjoyed this. A little hard to follow who is who at the start, as it is narrated from a few different viewpoints
The classic mythology angle interwoven with modern life worked really well, and I would certainly listen to any follow up audiobooks.
Personally I think the cover artwork undersells this, it looks a little amateurish/ cheesy which is not representative of the book.
Are you a Greek Mythology lover? If so, this audiobook is for you. Natalie Bamford does an amazing job with her narration. Keymaker’s Daughter captured my attention from the very beginning. I felt like I was in the story. I didn’t want the book to end. Anya Stassiy brought Greek Mythology into the modern world. One of the best books that I have heard all year. #KeymakersDaughter
This was a fun take on Greek mythology, the characters are Greek gods and demi-gods.
The plot was good and I liked how the modern world was used in combination with pieces of the Greek mythology.
I also think the narrator did a good job with the different voices.
really enjoyed the but it took about a qtr of the book to feel anything for the characters in fact the book almost reads and having been written by two different people. As a surface background listening book it was enjoyable but probably not going to lose sleep if I don’t read another with these characters in.
I just finished listening to this audiobook and I love it so so much. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to it. I want more now please.
I genuinely thought that this was a fantastic book. This was also my first experience with an audiobook and I absolutely did not regret it.
The narration was phenomenal in capturing accents and the different voices of a big cast of characters but the book itself was an 10/10 knockout.
I think that readers will really enjoy this book for a number of reasons - I.e. - diverse characters, Greek mythology based, a great plot, a little bit of spice, great chemistry between the two MC’s, impeccable writing and a torturous sense of adventure.
Absolutely one of my top reads of the year so far.
Had a very good read here. It’s like a retelling of greek gods from a YA perspective. I wonder what would happen next after this
