An outrageously hilarious and moving read. Claire is spinning hundreds of plates as she juggles life, motherhood, and wifedom. Then her world is rocked on its access she she is betrayed in the worst way. Gill Sims has us laughing and crying our way through this book with Claire. If you loved the "why mummy drinks" series, then this standalone read has your name on it. A few of the minor characters from it even make an appearance here! When life goes haywire grab a set of like minded women, form a sisterhood of strength, drink wine and carry each other through every high and low - and what a fantastic trio of women standing alongside Claire, ready to go into battle with her, or... camping, wild swimming in the baltic ocean, life drawing classes or up climbing walls! They are formidable; they are the Saturday night sauvignon sisterhood. #thesaturdaynightsauvignonsisterhood #gillsims #netgalley

I thoroughly enjoy reading books by Gill Sims and this one was no exception. Gill just paints a picture of the trials and tribulations of family life telling life how it is. The interchanges between main character Claire and her two children, Tabitha and Lucas are just priceless. I'm just so glad I never had to endure a school camping trip but the depiction of the self appointed hierarchy of the playground mums led by Lolly was absolutely brilliant. The group of new friends (Lucy, Kate and Mary)that Claire gathered around her, had some brilliant scenes including a rather revolting but funny poetry reading.

In amongst the fun were some serious points but Gill's sense of humour and the way of 'moving on' after enormous life changes made this a light and totally entertaining read. I shall be looking forward to the next book in anticipation for a fantastic escape read

A fun read. I have now read a few by this author and they are all fun and definitely quite true to the juggle of family life and being a woman and work and trying to socialise and do everything.

Thank you to NetGalley for my free copy.

I own, and have read, all of the ‘Why Mummy…’ books by Gill Sims, enjoying some more than others. I originally made the mistake of thinking this was a part of the series, but it is a stand-alone story, although this was an easy mistake to make due to the glaring similarities. The author uses near-identical storylines - marriage break up, woman navigating her way through life after suddenly becoming a single mother, LOTS of alcohol being consumed… also the same language is used throughout, e.g. calling children ‘moppets’.

I also felt the ending was far too ‘happily ever after’, and sickly sweet. It was too easy, and felt like the author had had enough so it was a quick way to end the book.

Overall, I found the book an easy, pleasurable read, however it may have been more enjoyable if the author had made a more obvious attempt to distance this from her other books, seeing as it was supposed to be a stand-alone. Although, contrary to this, I did enjoy the crossover with Louisa, from the ‘Why Mummy…’ books, even if it was a tad too vulgar for my liking!

A strong 3.5 stars.

I really enjoyed the Why mummy ... Series by Gill Sims and couldn't wait to read this one. It's got many of the elements of the series, the same humour and put upon women who come into their own after realising that there is more to life than what they've been dealing with. It was an enjoyable read and is cathartic in the way that having a moan with your gfs about your significant other's mishaps is. I wasn't as enamoured by Claire and her sisterhood as I was with Ellen and her gang, but maybe I will grow to love this sisterhood just as much with more books?

Top notch read! Plenty of unexpected twists. I laughed and sobbed! This book is the epitome of sisterhood wrapped up in a handy readable hug! These are relationships you want! These are scenes at the school gates you know! Loved this book!

Thank you Netgalley

Another very funny book by this author. It made laugh out loud and thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the characters.
There's some darker moment and the author dealt with them in an excellent way.
I didn't like this phrase "Bet the bastards didn’t tell you that wine is remarkably good at cancelling out whining though, did they?’ muttered Claire." as it seems to be the poster phrase for alcohol is a good way to stop suffering.
It can be fun to read it but it would be tragic in real life.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Gill Sims has returned with a whole host of new characters. Fear not fans of the Why Mummy....series, the characters are very similar to that series. Except the husband in this is a complete f**kwit rather than just occasionally! Well at least to start with.

Claire is constantly on the edge of exhaustion and a mild nervous breakdown. Her kids are considering reporting her for child cruelty for feeding them vegetables and her husband Andrew when there isn't a great deal of help. Her one shoulder to lean on is her best friend Emily. But then the unthinkable happens. Claire discovers Andrew and Emily are having an affair. Straight away she's lost her rock and her husband might not be far behind. What she needs is a new start and new friends. Enter the Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood....

As usual Gill Sims is hilarious. Books rarely make me laugh out loud but hers always do. In fact with this one I laughed and cried. It was good to see a book where a woman who's been wronged is self aware enough to see her part in the issues. But that said I still think her husband was a f**kwit and often left me raging, even if he does redeem himself....slightly!

All in all a very enjoyable read however it's just a bit too similar to the Why Mummy... series. It would be nice to see Sims apply her wit to a different type of plot.

I really enjoyed Why Mummy drinks series and was really looking forward to this new offering from Gill Sims. It didn't disappoint and I loved the humour, the characters and the story. Gill's writing is always funny but she also managed to deal with the often sad moments in this book too. Very much enjoyed,

I love the Why Mummy Drinks books and was delighted to discover this standalone novel. It had something in common with the earlier books, to say the least, with the women's young 'cherubs' and 'moppets' wittering over fish-fingers after a long day. After a strong beginning, it became clear what the heroine's husband was up to, once she checked his text messages...

I enjoyed myself thoroughly as angry, abandoned Claire met her new friends - young mum Mary, Lucy from down the road and lesbian Kate - it would also have been nice to see a gay woman in the earlier books as well as Ellen's GBF Sam and her dreadful sister-in-law's flirtations with sapphism! I laughed my socks off as the women went on various challenges including wild swimming followed by cake, life drawing ('you's all ver' childish' says Kate as the girls have hysterics over the nudity) and listening again to Louisa's terrible menstruation poetry. It could have been a bit more different from the Ellen Russell books and I did feel the heroine spent too long wallowing and repeating herself - but really, when you have a formula this popular, why would you change it?

Another fantastic book from Gill Sims. Never have I been let down by this author, she always makes me laugh uncontrollably with her relatable humour and this is no exception. Even during events that would be incredible traumatic and devastating, I found my shoulders shaking with laughter.

Having been a fan of Sims' 'Why mummy...' series for years, I was a little worried that this would not live up to the high standards set buy that, but I needn't have worried. I promise that you will not be let down by this fantastic book.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for approving me for an ARC of this book.

I am a huge fan of the Why Mummy series, written by Gill Sims and to say I was gutted about the series finishing last year would be an understatement. I was devastated! Gill Sims has become my parenting bible and knowing their would be no more instalments was unthinkable. When I saw this book pop up on NetGalley I did a happy dance and requested straightaway. I then saw the audio as available on Scribd so downloaded it immediately.

I am pleased to say that Gill Sims did not disappoint! The tears of laughter were falling by then end of the first chapter and there were many more moments after. The way Gill Sims captures not just the parenting moments but life as a female and the tangled friendships is pure perfection. The delivery was sublime and by the end I felt like one of the Saturday night Sauvignon sisterhood.

When Claire’s life is turned upside down by her husband’s affair with her best friend she feels like she has to start all over again. The two most important people in her life (besides her children) have now vanished and she feels she has no one. Through sheer coincidence she meets Lucy, Kate and Mary. These three women are fantastic! Whether it’s Lucy with her candid nature and ability to make a joke out of any scenario, Mary the tired young mum wanting to escape the endless drama and tantrums or Kate the mother hen of the group coping with her own loss they each brought heart and soul to the story.

Through a series of days out and trying new things these women provide us with much hilarity but there were also moments of emotion where you saw the bond that they had all formed. It was also refreshing to see many different forms of motherhood, relationship status and stages of life. This wasn’t a book about divorced women coming together to hate all men, this was female solidarity at its best and showed what it meant to be a part of a true sisterhood.

All I can say is I hope Gill Sims carries on writing as her ability to make me laugh and cry from one sentence to the next is the best feeling in the world. This book deserves all the stars and will definitely be up their in my top reads of the year!

An enjoyable read with the usual Gill Sims humour. I found myself belly laughing quite a few times. This story follows a slightly different thread to the previous Gill Sims storys that I've read. This one cover infidelity, separation and life after. I found this one quite entertaining but with a bit more of a downbeat vibe to the previous stories

I thought this was going to be the standard Gill SIms book, and while there are many of the familiar tropes it does go off in other new directions too. Nice to see that it's not all the man's fault too. An enjoyable read.

I love Gill Sims writing style - it feels effortless and flows easily with many laugh out loud moments.

Unfortunately although I loved the writing I didn’t really connect with the plot or characters in this book in the way that I did with the authors other novels.

It is however a great book to escape into for an easy read.
