I read this book in a day!!!!! It was so creepy and kept me guessing until the end. Millie gets a job as a maid at a posh house on Long Island. The wife, Nina, is crazy and the husband is super nice. The story is told first from Millie's point of view, Then we hear Nina's side of the story.
If you like a book that hooks you in right away, this is for you. Just don't make any plans for the rest of your day.
I would like to thank Freida McFadden, Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Millie has been released from prison but has lost her job and also her home so is forced to live in her car. She applies for a job as live in housemaid to the wealthy Winchester family and, to her surprise., she is taken on. However Nina Winchester is not a very nice person to work for. She is very demanding, constantly changing her mind about what Millie's duties are and leaves the house in an utter mess. The couple have a 9 year old daughter Cece who doesn't appear to like Millie though Nina's husband Andy is very friendly and approachable which leads to Millie developing a crush on him. How will Nina react when she realises. that her husband is also attracted to the maid?

Told from the viewpoint of Millie and Nina, this is a book that engages you right from the start. So many unexpected twists and turns make for a very enjoyable read. This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be the last.

This was sooooo good that I just devoured it in a day. Twisty, frightening, smart, and the revenge is so juicy. I have never loved and hated the same character so much... A must read for thriller lovers. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read the ARC of this.

Wow! This is a page turner from beginning to end. The twists and turns will keep you reading, especially when you realize characters are not who they seem to be. Thanks to NeGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

What a book! This is the first I have read of Feida McFadden, but I am hooked now, so it won’t be my last!

Millie takes a job as a housekeeper for the well-to-do Winchester family. Having little options, this job is the one thing keeping Millie afloat. Even when the working conditions become more harsh and a little strange, Millie is desperate to keep her job and grits her teeth to put up with the strange ways of Nina. Nina Winchester is well known for being a little high-strung, and people seem to go with the flow of her changing moods. To Millie, it seems that Nina is a little more than just high-strung, maybe there is something more sinister happening, but Millie is almost powerless to put any stop to the outrageous actions of Nina, or is she?

It is kind of hard to talk about this book without giving too much information. Probably better to just jump right in!

This novel goes from zero to 60 very quickly and doesn’t slow down. With the combination of thriller favorites: unreliable characters, major twists, and the threat of murder, this book is fully charged to hold a reader’s attention. Make sure to clear your schedule for this one, it is unputdownable!
I also had the pleasure of accompanying reading this novel with the audiobook version, which just added to the excitement. I found the narration to be clear and well done, making jumping from listening to reading seamless and enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley, publisher, and Freida McFadden for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

This was a lot of fun!

I won’t bother to recap the plot, plenty of that out there already. I will also add that this isn’t necessarily a trailblazer of a new idea in its genre BUT it’s a good, entertaining and quick easy read!

I was fine with Nina. I like an awful character and she was perfect. I felt that Millie was way too naïve and foolish, especially for an ex con. Her mooning/swooning on Andrew was over the top in description and repetition, at times ridiculous and annoying.

Part two and three make this story. This is where it gets fun (but also a bit implausible at times but it’s fiction, and the twists were fast and furious, so I’m ok with it). The conclusion and epilogue were satisfying. It will stick in my mind for a minute. I think that’s a good thing.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.

This book was fast paced and very quick to read but I couldn’t help reading it and doubting every part of it. Just seemed very far fetched and became predictable and for that reason I could only give this two stars. Not really for me.

I totally binged this wild ride of a read! It was incredibly captivating and completely addicting! It’s a fun, dark and mysterious domestic thriller that will keep you totally entranced!

While I was able to guess the major twists quite early, it was still enjoyable and I continued to fly through it! It also reminded me very much of another book but I’ll keep that one to myself as I don’t want to spoil anything! It certainly has its differences though and finishes with one last punch! Even though I saw it coming as well, it was still a knockout!

This was my second by McFadden and I’m looking forward to reading more from her!

This is the first book I’ve read from Freida McFadden and if her previous books are as good as The Hous emaid I will be reading a lot of her books,The Housemaid is one of the best books I’ve read this year,i know it’s only May but it’s that good.I can’t really go into the plot without giving the game away, but Millie is fresh out of prison and down on her luck after getting fired from her previous job and is living in her car,so when she applies for a job as a housemaid at the Winchester home she doesn’t think she will get it because of her prison record, but to Millie’s surprise she gets the job.And that’s when her problems start, and you’ll have to trust me on the rest of the book when I say you won’t be disappointed with this book, it is book that me turning the well into the night it really is that good.A brilliant 5 star read from Freida McFadden.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)

I flew through this book in a little less than two days. This book had all the things I love in thrillers: quick chapters, shocking twists, and suspense! I do have to admit that I guessed the big twist, but not right away. I was still eager to see how it ended, and I wasn’t disappointed! If you’re a fan of The Last Mrs. Parrish and binge-worthy reads, you’ll love this book.

This book started off on the hill of a roller coaster and never let up. Fast paced, suspenseful and shocking. I thought I had it all figured out and for the most part I did but that ending packed a punch that I really craved. A tad over the top but in the most enjoyable way possible. Such a fun, complete binge worthy book!!

Silly Millie thinks her dreams have come true when she lands a housekeeping position. Particularly given her limited options due to time spent behind bars; she suspects her new employer, Nina Winchester, neglected to run a background check.

Not only does Millie find her new employer pleasant and generous, she also keeps an orderly house. But Millie soon discovers her dream job is anything but when things quickly go south, and Nina begins to demonstrate psychotic tendencies, often abusing her rich, successful, and handsome husband Andrew, her gardener, and Millie. Is Nina deliberately ransacking the house leaving Millie to clean up the mess? Does she really lock the door to Millie’s gloomy, sweltering room at times after lights out? And is the lone window in that room coincidentally stuck closed or intentionally manipulated?

Determined to hang in there as long as possible, regardless of the hostile environment, Millie is elated when Andrew begins showing a romantic interest and sends Nina packing. But is Andrew also too good to be true? Freida McFadden’s novel will keep you guessing.

Brimming with unexpected twists and turns, The Housemaid will capture the interest of even the most discriminating reader. Although the main characters could benefit from a lesson in morality, they are somewhat charismatic and distinctly memorable. I found the ending a bit over the top, but it certainly lends itself to a highly anticipated sequel. Much appreciation to Freida McFadden, NetGalley, and Bookouture for the ARC.

I absolutely judge books by their covers (what can I say?) and this one hooked me at first glance. I haven't read a psychological thriller in a while, so the premise of this story felt uniquely disturbing and I couldn't help but want to find out "what happens next!?" at the end of every chapter. The bite-size chapters kept me plowing through the book, making it a pretty quick read.

Those were the good things about the book.

Unfortunately, I felt zero empathy or concern for the characters in the story because not a single one of them was likeable or fully developed. When the story flipped and was being told from another point of view, I felt like the narrating voices were practically identical. And repetitive, which can be expected to some extent, since we were seeing much of the same unfolding story but from a different vantage, but I didn't expect just a retelling of the story a second time in basically the same way. I felt like the "relationships" were unbelievable, Cecelia's behavior was confusing and never really explained, and the "L" word was tossed around like teenagers in loooooove, which made me just cringe and roll my eyes a few times.

This one was okay and kept me reading, to be sure. But it didn't wow me the way the cover made me expect. I'll have to look for one of McFadden's highest rated book and give her another chance, as she seems to have an enthusiastic following!

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Millie is hired as a live-in maid for a wealthy family. The wife, Nina, is unbalanced, and the husband is very attractive. Of course, Millie, being an apparent moron, falls for her boss and gets involved, but before she knows it, she is locked in the attic. I did not like parts one and two of this book, but part three made up for it somewhat. I should have skipped it though. 3 stars.

3.5 STARS

My third and favorite from this author. I couldn't resist the eye in the keyhole cover!

Millie lands a new job. A housemaid in a swanky Long Island neighborhood. All the houses are gated and the crime rate is low. Beats living in your car!

Her boss, Nina is a flighty one. She flips from hot to cold in a NY second. Does she have a split personality? Seems that way, but Millie must carry on! And bonus points for the HOT hubby!

This was entertaining, a bit predictable, some light suspense, and an all around easy read. If you enjoy popcorn reads, I recommend.

The ending was my favorite, a nice twist that gave me the Cheshire Cat kinda grin! Bravo for that!

Wow what a fantastic book!!! I made the mistake of starting this before going to bed, couldn’t put it down for hours!! Then finished it as soon as I woke up! Total page turner, more twists than you would ever think of and the ending was just fantastic! Hard to talk about the plot without giving away any spoilers so all I can say is read it!! You won’t be disappointed, it’s absolutely brilliant!

Crazy addictive is how I would describe Freida McFadden’s newest novel: The Housemaid. It’s an absolutely gripping thriller where things are never what they appear to be and explores what happens behind closed doors.

When I started reading The Housemaid late last night, I only intended to read a chapter or two as a way to unwind from a long day. The prologue hit like a hammer, hooking me, and I didn’t stop reading until I literally could no long keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried. (No lie, I ended up falling asleep and dropping my kindle onto my face.) I resumed reading as soon as I woke this morning and didn’t stop til I’d finished.

Trying to keep spoilers to a minimum, we meet Millie—a down on her luck woman in desperate need of a job—as she interviews to be a maid for Nina Winchester—a perfectly pleasant woman who is devoted to her child and her rich, handsome husband. Well you know what they say…things aren’t always as they appear. And that applies to everyone in this book. McFadden does an absolutely masterful job of subverting our expectations and beliefs, slowly dolling out little tidbits to constantly challenge us, to question what we know before getting us to completely flip what think and feel about the characters.

This was a fantastic read that I can’t recommend highly enough to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers, and I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGallery for allowing me to read and review an eARC of The Housemaid.

A domestic thriller that is crazy farfetched yet totally unputdownable. Filled with a gazillion twists and some very very unlikable characters. The suspense was off the charts, you really just fly through this eventhough some parts defied logic and some parts too coincidental as a loose end tie up. The epilogue sealed the deal for me, making this a highly recommended psycho thriller!
