Wow! I really enjoyed this book. The twists and turns mostly surprised me. The characters were well written and believable.
Wow what a book. I read so much and absolutely love a story that makes me want to keep reading. The story focuses on a girl who has just been released from prison and becomes a housemaid for a wealthy family. But behind the wealth are some serious issues which keep you guessing for the route of the problem. The story changes to be told from the wife’s perspective. Thrilling read, great characters 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
A woman struggling to get her life back on track after a ten-year stint in prison stumbles on an open position for a live-in house maid. unfortunately, and as she quickly finds out, the lady of the house is a bit off her rocker. But it's not just the mind games of Nina that make this new job difficult, and most importantly strange. Her husband is a fox and she's got a hot jealous streak. Her daughter is a monster and mom is so proud. She has no real friends, even Nina's fellow PTA members whisper behind her back. And the maid accommodations are a tiny room in their cramped attic with a lock on the outside of the door.
As always with McFadden's books, I was glued from the start. Interesting characters with intriguing back stories. I was practically drooling as this tale began to unfold. Around 30% things started to turn. What in the world was really going on? What are these characters' intentions?
The story twists and turns so unexpectedly and I was desperate to find out what would happen next. I gasped and shouted "Oh my god!" out loud several times. This is an absolute must read for thriller lovers. The ending will freaking BLOW YOU AWAY!
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc and Alc echange for an honest review.
It was a greeping but a little predictable story for me. When a woman come from jail she needs a job and she is so glad to get one without difficulties. She seems that some things are not usuall but she stays couse she need a place to stay as well. On the other hand we have her emplyee that is not an usual one. She behave strange. And while reading you want to know why she is like that. Who can help who and who is murdered and why, who is the murderer is just a point of view. Who would you trust?

Millie is down on her luck. Fresh out of prison, living in her car and desperate for a job. So when she gets hired on as a maid for a wealthy family, it seems too good to be true. She soon realizes, things aren’t as they seem. The question is though, when everyone in the house is hiding secrets, who’s is worse?
This book is the best thriller I have read so far this year! It was also my first book by McFadden and she did not disappoint!!! I was kept on the edge of my seat until the very last sentence! I was more than pleased with the ending and closed the book feeling satisfied and excited to see what the author puts out next!
If you’re into domestic thrillers with twists and turns, then this is the book for you!
Comes out April 26, 2022!
Freida McFadden has done it again--written a deliciously diabolical tale of surprises. Though some events may seem unbelievable, the story of a strangely slovenly wife, a too perfect husband, and a newly hired housemaid is engaging from the very beginning. The reader wants to know what is going to happen, and will stay up late to find out. A very satisfying read with a cliffhanger ending.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this advance copy for me to read and review
A full 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! Freida really outdid herself with this one. I was immediately captivated by Millie’s story, then I had to pick my jaw up off the floor starting part 2. 🫣 The shocks just kept twisting and turning until the very last page. Thanks to NetGalley I was able to devour this ARC of the newest and highly anticipated Freida McFadden page turner. The Housemaid was absolutely outstanding, as I knew it would be.
Millie is down on her luck and hoping to get back on her feet. Enter The Winchesters. They are suave, rich, beautiful and are advertising a job role for a housemaid, something Millie can't help but apply for. She is quick to realise not everything is as it seems.
It was quite difficult to root for Millie when things started to go downhill as I couldn't help but feel like shouting, "Just leave!". This all changed however when the POV changed and I was continuously blown away.
After that the book was filled with multiple fantastic twists and turns that I did not see coming and the ending was exactly what I'd hoped for. Fantastic writing from Freida.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for access to the eARC for an honest review.
I really stayed up late reading this as I just couldn't work out where it was going next or how! It's a twisty turny sort of book that starts off fairly threatening and dark and gets more so as it goes on and more of the story is revealed. I really enjoyed it and thoroughly recommend it as it's a real page turner and although it's quite dark it isn't too sadistic. I can imagine it would make a really good tv series as there are lots of cliffhanger moments and plenty to keep you going.
I was reading The Long Call by Ann Cleeves when I got the approval for the arc copy of The Housemaid. After reading the first chapter, I immediately dropped the Long Call and started reading this book.
The easy style of writing, the fast pacing of the story, the short chapters, and the intriguing plot had me flipping the pages. I was surprised by how good this book was and how much I enjoy reading it. Despite the easy style of writing, the author was able to deliver the story and the plot effectively to the reader which greatly impresses me. I hope Freida McFadden maintains that easy writing style for all her future books. This is my first book from her and would not be the last.
There were a few twists spread throughout the book but they weren't really jaw-dropping even though I didn't see them coming. When I started reading the book I wasn't sure what I am getting into because there wasn't much written about the synopsis. I was really in for a roller coaster ride as I read on and wanted to keep reading.
There are two issues I have about this book. Firstly the world-building outside the context of the plot and the character was very shallow. The story could be richer if there is a bit more emphasis on world-building. The 2nd issue was the tag line on the book cover 'from behind close doors, she sees everything' doesn't quite match with the plot. These are not big issues and they didn't take the joy out of me while I was reading the book.
I would give this book easily a 4 stars rating and I highly recommend it if you want a fast read and a good plot.
WOW! This book was one crazy roller coaster ride! In my opinion, Frieda McFadden is the Queen of psychological thrillers. You can always count on her books to be twisty and super fast paced. This one was absolutely no exception. It started off strong in the Prologue and did not let up! And, that ending! This is where McFadden really shines. The ending of this completely blindsided me! I’d you want an awesome thriller, full of twists and turns you don’t see coming, The Housemaid is for you!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an advance copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review and opinion. Whoa, whoa, whoa! This book is crazy good! You will be sucked in right from page one and will not be able to stop reading no matter how many times you tell yourself "just one more page." My only negative about this book is that it kept me up way past my bedtime so my advice to you is to start early in the day!
Another great twisty ride from Frieda McFadden. I’ve read all her books and they never disappoint. Just plain fun. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
I was absolutely hooked from the very first page right up until the very end. I couldn't put it down! The Housemaid certainly lived up to it's introduction, and more. It is so dark, gripping, shocking and the twists totally enhance the plot line, with some positively evil characters but a brilliant story. This is a new author for me but I will be looking out for more of your writing.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC
Nina was looking for a house maid someone to tidy her house look after her daughter so when Millie is given the job she is delighted especially given that she has a record and didn’t in her wildest dreams imagine she would get this job.
Things are not plain sailing between Mollie and Nina it soon becomes clear that Nina is out to make Millie’s life as difficult as possible and at times mollie wonders why she was even given the job and wishes she could afford to walk alway.
As Nina pushes Millie to her limits Andrew ( Nina’s husband) becomes closer to Millie and tells her his wife is acting strangely and wasn’t always like this and he tries to make Millie more welcome when Nina pushes her away.
This book started off as an average thriller and anyone who has read many thrillers as I have will be thinking here we go again but this book has a twist there’s a reason Millie is hired by Nina this particular housemaid was sought out for a very specific purpose and I absolutely love the reason why and it was the ending that pushes this book from a 3 star to a 4 for me.
Thank you to NetGalley the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review
Excellent book! The Housemaid by FreidaMcFadden was a fast and fun read. The story drew me in immediately and kept me turning pages late into the night. A fast-paced psychological thriller, this one was hard to put down. Characters were well-developed and I loved how the tale unfolded. The clever and well-placed twists and turns were delightful. Five stars for The Housemaid!
One of the best thrillers I've read so far this year.
This is a BELTER. Having not read any McFadden books until now, I was excited to try an author who is highly recommended by my friends. Wow, I can see why she is so popular.
I could not turn the pages fast enough. The anxiety-ridden pages with twists that made me gasp and shake my head in disbelief at the way the book was crafted and executed. I haven't read a book this messed up since What Lies Between Us by John Marrs, one of my go-to thriller recommendations. McFadden has just catapulted herself into this list with The Housemaid. Every time I thought I knew where the book was headed, she would thrown in another curveball.
I always wonder how authors can still surprise or impress me when I read so many of the thriller genre, but Freida McFadden shows it is still possible, and I am off to read her entire back catalogue. This has put her on my auto-buy list forever.
Review for THE HOUSEMAID by Freida McFadden
Millie is living in her car and desperate for work so when a cleaning job working at the Winchester House is offered she is overjoyed!
Nina the woman of the Winchester House and Millies boss is making Millies life miserable for her as well as Nina's husband's.
As time goes on everyone is unhappy and things come to a turn that is very unpredictable.
This is a very engaging read plus a page turner. Wow...really hard for me to put down. I have never read this author before but she is on my radar for more books to read!
This book absolutely blew me away! I was so confused the whole beginning trying to figure out what was real, where the danger was in the Winchester house and what Nina’s endgame was. And wow did they deliver!! The Last Mrs Parrish is still one of my favorite books and this gave me vibes from it! I was loving the twists, down to the last one! Some I could predict, others were shocking! Pick it up, read it!
Synopsis:
Millie is living in her car and has a criminal record which makes finding a decent job rather tough. She's applies to be a live in nanny/ house keeper for the Winchesters. She's surprised when Nina offers her the job. But, when Millie arrives a few days later to start working there the house is a mess and Nina is a totally different. Soon, Millie learns the Winchester's secrets are very dangerous.
I love fast paced easy to read thrillers and this hit the nail on the head. I was completely invested in the story from the first chapter. Speaking of chapters, this book has story chapters 🙌🏼 I like to be able to put the book down if I need another coffee ☕️ Anyway, I like Frieda's writing style. It just flows. The first half of the story is from Millie's POV and the second half from Nina's.
