I was fortunate enough to have received an arc copy from NetGalley. The Housemaid is a brilliant story (bit dark), I loved it and was gripped from the fist chapter. It seems like the dream job for someone with a chequered background. It offered great wages and accommodation, that was until until the dream becomes a nightmare.Lots of twists and turns which kept me glued till the end.

Nothing is as it seems and nobody is who they appear to be! The Housemaid is an addictive, twisted tale of domestic abuse and revenge. Despite a cast of largely difficult-to-like characters, this book is difficult to put down and keeps the reader wanting to discover what will happen next.
Thanks to Freida McFadden, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC.

Nina is a recently released felon, down on her luck, jobless, living in her car and in desperate need for a job not only so she can get out of her car, but to keep up with the rules of her parole because the last thing that she wants is to go back to prison. She applies for a position as a maid/nanny for a rich couple, she really doesn't even think she will get it, but tries anyway. Miraculously Nina Winchester offers her the job and it's a dream come true! Free room and board, a hefty paycheck and all she has to do is watch a couples daughter and clean the house. Her boss, Nina, is even so nice to her, what could go wrong? As soon as her first day starts, she realizes that what she got into may be over her head, but she needs this job and she loves the money- the question is, will she survive this nightmare?

This book starts off strong and it continues to stay that way throughout the book, never fading in keeping your attention. The first sentence If I leave this house, it will be in handcuffs. reels you in and starts the questioning of the book. I was hooked on the premise of this book because I always wondered why anyone would want to have live in help and this story really made me question everyones motives around me. Freida, like usual writes the characters in such a way that you think you know them, and you feel their emotions too. I thought that I had the story figured out, I even thought outside of the box, but by the halfway mark Freida once again reminded me that she thinks outside of any box you could imagine and explodes your line of thinking.

This is a fast paced, exciting thriller that you are not going to want to put down, so make sure that when you start this you have time to finish it or you will go to bed wishing you did. This book sent bone chilling shivers throughout my body with the biggest twist of them all right towards the end, you may think that you'll see every twist coming but I can assure you that your jaw will be on the floor by the end of the book. The last twist is a Behind Closed Doors ending and you'll be thinking about it for time to come.

The next time someone asks for a thriller that lingers in my mind, this will be the one that I tell everyone about. A 100/10 in my book.

Don't forget, most things in life are privileges so don't take them for granted.

3.5 STARS! This book is a page-turner, and I was thoroughly engrossed with what would happen next!

Millie is on parole and struggling to land a job when the perfect position seems to fall in her lap! As a live-in maid for a wealthy family, she feels like she has won the lottery! But as soon as she begins, her new boss start exhibiting some bizarre behavior. Is Millie safe working for this family?

I really enjoyed the story, but the twist was so similar to another book I have read and loved. Since the stories were so similar (and I feel the other book was better done), I knocked off a star from this one.

Also, the ending seemed a bit rushed to me. I would have liked for more details of what happened in the gap of time we didn’t see!

Millie is a year into her parole and living in her car when she gets the chance to be a maid for a wealthy family.
Since it is a live in position it solves all of her problems.

Nina is the mother of Cecelia and wife to Andrew.
When Millie starts to hear the rumors about Nina's mental hospital stay, things start to make a little more sense to Millie.

The Housemaid starts out simple enough but that doesn't last too long. This is one wild ride! The building tension was on point. You should read this one!

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

This was the first time I read a book from Freida McFadden and let me tell you, I can’t wait to read many more of her books! The Housemaid is a fast pace thriller with surprising twists to keep the reader on edge! Definitely puts off Gone Girl vibes and reminds me of Riley Sager style. You will question the characters motives and shocked to learn the truth of each of them. This one is hard to put down and you’ll want to finish it in a day! The Housemaid will be a favorite with any mystery/thriller reader! This book is released end of April and I can’t wait to hear what other think of it as well!

Wow. I have read all of Frieda McFaddens books and this one didn’t disappoint. While it wasn’t my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed it. Some of it was far fetched, but I still managed to cruise though it started rapid pace. I would give it a solid 3 stars. Thank you NetGalley for the Arc.

What a read! Once I started The Housemaid, I could not put it down and ended up reading it in a day. This definitely got me out of a reading slump!

Told in the first person with multiple points of view, The Housemaid tells the story of Millie, a young woman living in her car, and desperate for a job. She ends up interviewing for an almost too-good-to-be-true live in maid/nanny position with The Winchesters - unpredictable Nina, enigmatic Andrew and their unusual daughter, Cecelia.

As time passes, and tensions rise in the house, it soon appears that Millie may be in over her head with the wealthy Winchesters.

The Housemaid was a wild, twisty ride with well written characters and was well paced, too. I felt immersed in this tale and was hooked from the very beginning - the author can certainly tell a great story. The writing itself was simplistic but still managed to create atmosphere and suspense as it was heavily driven by an intriguing plot and great dialogue.

This was my first Freida McFadden read, but it certainly won't be my last!

Billed as “an unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night”, The Housemaid certainly lives up to that and more. Part one was very good, part two was excellent and part three brought the whole book together. I could not put this book down. It’s gripping, shocking and the twists totally enhance the plot line. I need to read more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

This book follows Millie after being released from prison and end up being a housekeeper in the Winchester's home. Nina is quiet the character and makes life a bit hard for Millie... And the the twists and turns start.

What an amazing book, part 2 had me jaw dropping. Great read if you like a little twisting and turning!

4.5 stars for the genre

Dang this was a wild ride! I really appreciate the short chapters as they keep me saying “just one more chapter” then all of a sudden im done with the book 😄
The twists were great, and their was likable and no so likable characters. Fast paced and suspenseful. I am definitely going to look up more by this author!

What a ride! Throughout Part 1 I was shaking my head at what Millie was going through- out of sheer desperation to keep her job. Then came Part 2, and I started to realize that all was not as it seemed. By the time I got to Part 3 I couldn’t wait to see how it all came together, only to be shocked at the final twist!!

Millie’s naivety was very frustrating at times, although her atypical journey into young adulthood does explain a lot of it. Nina was absolutely maddening, the epitome of the type of person I absolutely loathe. So how did I come to respect her?

Read and find out!

Thanks to #NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy!

Let me say that everything I’ve read from Frieda McFadden had never disappointed and neither did The Housemaid!!

Nina and Andrew seem to have the perfect life. Nice cars, nice house and definitely money. So when Nina is needing extra help around the house with cooking, cleaning and taking care of Cecilia the daughter in walks Millie. Millie is down on her luck and can’t catch a break. She’s living out of her car and eating sandwiches for dinner. Did I mention she’s in this situation cause she just got out of prison?? Then she gets the call that she is hired as The housemaid if she wants it.

This book had twists and an ending that really came together and I was completely satisfied!! Such a grab you by the throat and delightful book!!

Thank you NetGalley and Freida McFadden for giving me opportunity to read this ARC!

Wow, I flew through this book in just 1 day. I felt like I should have seen some of the twists coming but I sure didn't. Likeable (and very unlikeable) characters with short chapters that kept me wanting more. Can't wait to go and scope out the backlog and devour more of her books

This was a fast and fun read, with lots of twists and great character development that really drew me in as a reader.

Millie is desperate. A young woman who has recently been released from prison, she’s lost her job and is now living in her car, fearful her parole officer will find out and have her locked up again. So when she has the chance to work as a live-in housemaid for Nina Winchester in her pristine suburban home, she’s willing to roll up her sleeves and work hard as she gets her life back on-track.

She’s not prepared for the animosity that quickly develops between the two women, the way Nina purposely destroys the house to create more work for her, and the constant berating by her new employer. There’s also the additional complication of the handsome, wealthy and tempting husband on the periphery. Most disturbingly, the attic room in which she lives only has a lock on the outside.

This story develops quickly, with the steady ratcheting up of tension. I enjoyed the dual POV storyline and the rapid page-turning pace.

4.5 stars rounded up!
The Housemaid had elements of Verity and The Nanny Diaries.
Millie got out of prison a few months ago and needs a job ASAP. She had gotten a job at a bar, but was let go. Living in her car and off cold cuts, she's desperate to do ANYTHING. She accepts a housemaid position for a wealthy family in the hopes the wife will never do a background check on her and kick her out. As she works there, the wife, Nina, seems to become more deranged over time, her daughter, Cecelia, is a complete stuck up brat and the husband, Andrew, is such a handsome sweetheart that Millie can't comprehend why he won't leave them. Over time, things become out of hand, and Millie takes matters into her own hands.
The Housemaid has all the makings of a great psychological thriller:
Alarming (and preferably wealthy) setting? check.
Insane character? check.
Creepy children? check.
Unreliable main character? check.
It was no wonder I loved it!
Is it predictable? Of course it is. But as foreseeable as the ending was for me, I still had my doubts that it wouldn't end up exactly how I thought.
Keeping me guessing always entices me, even when I end up being correct. And there's more than one psychological twist in this book which is gratifying!
Without giving away too much, I loved the level of evilness in here! I've read quite a few psychological thrillers and a lot of them don't have that 'mean' factor. But this one certainly did! I also loved how it came around full circle and in the end I emphathized which each character-even the antagonist.
What bothered me was some of the repetition in the middle of the book. Millie kept droning on and on about how Andrew was so perfect and how she would be better for him that it felt a little naive, childish, and unrealistic.

I very much enjoyed this book! It starts with great a hook to reel you in, and the story progression keeps you wanting more, as you learn about the lives of the Winchesters' and their maid. I found the writing style very easy to read, and I love a story that keeps you on your toes. Thoroughly enjoyed the ending.

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the arc!

I thought that The Housemaid by Freida McFadden was going to be a good psych thriller just from the description. I did not expect to be blown away.
But I was. This is by far one of the best psych thrillers I have read in recent memory.
And yes, I may have said that few times recently, but this one really shoots to the top of the list.
I feel like I repeat myself about plot spoilers, but I also feel like I cannot stress enough how important it is to me to NOT give anything away. Especially with this one.
The action is divided into three parts. The first part is from Millie’s point of view. If there is a definition of “down on your luck” it can be found in her situation. She is desperate and knows that she has slim chances at success in anything she does due to a mysterious past.
It is the perfect set up for the action of the rest of the book.
Millie’s dream come true job soon turns out to be nothing what she expected. But, as she is hiding secrets, she has to stick with it no matter how bad it gets.
And boy, does it get bad.
Nina is a real piece of work. I can’t say why (because…spoilers). I spent a lot of time in the first part wanting to scream at Millie, “GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!” I also wondered about Millie’s character…that she tolerated so much.
But the worse it got, the more I started thinking there had to be another reason for everything that was happening.
And boy, are there reasons.
The second part of the book gives the reader an alternative viewpoint on the action of the first part. It may sound convoluted, but it isn’t. It’s a genius way to show what was really going on.
The third part converges the first two parts and secrets are uncovered, wrapping everything up to one of THE most satisfying conclusions one could hope for.
And just when you think the author has given you everything about the characters you could possibly know, she hasn’t. She saves the final surprise for literally the last page in the book.
I am not exaggerating when I say that my jaw dropped, and I instantly thought “what a frickin’ amazing twist that was!”
(Side note: I don’t know if it was intentional, but the last character introduced in the epilogue has an epic last name (sort of NSFW) that is a clue to what may happen).
Honestly, I can’t believe this is my first book from this author – how have missed Freida McFadden’s other books?
I am headed to Unlimited right now, because The Housemaid was amazing, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
