Historical fiction…likable characters…fun reading…this book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley…the characters have so many stories that it is almost like reading several memoirs at once…the author weaves the stories and is ingenious at doing that…enjoy this book…
I liked this book.
I'm glad the war is over but it felt a bit flat to be honest there was no big storyline about the war being over the main characters just got on with life like the war finishing was in the back ground when in reality it was a brilliant thing. But I still liked it still couldn't put it down like the rest of the series.
I would like to find out how everyone gets on now war has finished if all of Ben's ideas comes to something if he does open more premises and how reggie is if he copes with stuff.... keep up the good work....
I have loved this series. Harper's Stores is still managing to find things to sell during the years of the war mainly due to the ingenuity of Sally Harper who is married to Ben the owner. All the girls we met in the first books are still friends but doing different things now except for Beth who is still in the store.
There are many storylines in this book as husbands are injured and return from the trenches, some not as whole in body or mind as they were when they left. Wives and mothers stay at home worrying if they will ever see their men again or live a normal life with them.
The story of Marco in France and Ben still goes on and in this book as in the last one it is really nail biting ,edge of the seat reading. I worried whether either of them would make it until the end of the war.
Spanish flu is raging and I noted that some of the fears and isolation felt by the characters are the same ones we have felt over the past two years only they had war to contend with as well.
If you haven't read this series you are missing out on a brilliant read.
I have the feeling that this might be the last book in the series as all the loose ends seem to be tied up but I would be delighted if it went on for a few more.
A great read and great to be back at Harpers once more.
Spending time with the Harpers girls is always great. As they move on dealing with the war with all its sorrows. They come together to support each other and as the war ends get together a plan to help men returning home. Such a great series!
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this ARC. I have loved this series from the beginning. You feel like you are part of the story. Family saga at its best. Cant wait to read more by this brilliant author
Victory Bells For The Harpers Girls by Rosie Clarke is a great WWI-era historical fiction saga that is the sixth book in the charming Harpers Emporium series.
I have really enjoyed this series from the beginning. It all has always centered around London’s grand store, Harper’s, and the owners, employees, and their respective friends and family. It has been a joy to see staple characters continue to grow and evolve, and it is also nice to have new characters rotating in every now and then to add new and fresh storylines to the overarching narrative to keep things from getting stagnant. This book has storylines involving: Sally, Ben, Becky, Marion, and Reggie, amongst several others.
I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
5/5 stars
