I greatly admire authors who have tackled the problem of the pandemic in their fiction and this is a particularly fine example.
A series of poignant vignettes link the various characters, each of them touched in some way by the coronavirus and lockdowns.
I found the whole novel engaging and it was easy to have empathy for these varied character portraits.
I DEVOURED this book in one sitting! I could not put it down, I mean talk about suspense and clutching my pearls😭😂!! The uniquely, wonderfully written style and pace kept my eyes glued to the pages! I loved this book so much, I have found a new favorite author in Julie Walker!
Thank you to NetGalley and Matador for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review
The Gift of Time had such an interesting blurb but I felt let down with the story.
From several different POVs, couples, family and people are put to the test when Covid 19 hits.
I found the characters almost fake like, there was no real emotion behind them and it affected the story greatly. Or they were portrayed in a way to feel emotion but it felt forced.
I ended up skimming through some of the characters' stories because the characters felt the same, like they were the same character but different story.
Overall I don’t think this book was for me.
Thank you Netgalley and Matador for the digital copy of The Gift of Time and because of my low stars I will not be posting a review to Instagram or Facebook.
The Gift of Time
by Julie Walker
Six people in five countries are unknowingly and inextricably linked. Love, hate, life, and death. Relationships are put to the test, deceptions are revealed, secrets are kept, and lies are constructed. Help is at hand from the least expected sources, but hope is what they all have.
All they each wanted was the gift of time, but this wasn’t what they imagined. This was a beautiful book. Some of the stories, ok most really touched me personally. I have always been a stay at home more than most. But, going out became so frightening. I hope the non-vax will do their part and wear the mask when a new strain comes.. It was so difficult to lose so many . This was a brilliantly written book on COVID
