Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for an eARC to review! In the Pines is a mystery/thriller in the Mercy Kilpatrick series by Kendra Elliot. It will be published August 16, 2022.

Treasure hunters are invading the small town of Eagle's Nest searching for the $2 million treasure left by the deceased millionaire Chester Rollins. Police chief Truman Daly has had his fill of them. While eating at a diner, Truman is approached by a young boy who claims that his mother and baby sister have been missing for weeks. Truman immediately calls his wife, FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick, and they get to work. Between these missing people and the death of one of the treasure hunters, their work is cut out for them.

I really enjoyed getting back into Mercy's world again and reconnecting with all of the characters in this series! Readers will get to see a lot of Ollie, Kaylie, Mercy, Truman, and Deschutes County police officer Evan Bolton, I enjoyed the plot of this book. I was unsure about the treasure hunting aspect at first, but it ended up adding another element to the plot that I enjoyed. I also loved all of the new characters that were introduced. This book was very entertaining, and I didn't guess the "bad guy.": Overall, I think this was a great addition to the Mercy series and I am excited to see what happens next!

Oh.My.Goodness! The twists! This was just what I needed to get out of my book funk.

In The Pines is the 3rd book in the Columbia River series, but this book is in Mercy and Truman’s world (from the Mercy Kilpatrick series). You don’t have to have read any of the previous series to follow along (I have only read the first book or two from the Mercy Kilpatrick series).

But holy smokes…a treasure hunt and murders and missing people…are they all separate events…are they all related… The twists and turns make it such a fun read.

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for providing this ARC to review. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise. ~

In The Pines brings back one of my favorites in FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick. As treasure hunters descend on Eagle's Nest searching for a hidden fortune a young boy stumbles out of nowhere seeking help finding his missing mother and baby sister.
She left to find his father who is also missing. Mercy and local police chief Truman Daly are going to need all their resources to find out what happened to the couple while trying to handle the treasure hunters who will stop at nothing including murder.
The twists keep coming and there are more answers with each discovery.
Mercy will not stop until she finds out what is going on and this will put her in danger she never saw coming.

This is another cleverly written story by Kendra Elliot that will leave you wanting more.

Thank you #NetGalley #Montlake #InThePines

Good book! This book was a little different from the norm, it had suspense, intrigue, murder, and mystery! It had a great treasure hunt that everyone seemed to be involved in! Some people were almost obsessed with it which led to them doing just about anything to get to the treasure! Which in turn led to a very interesting book! I will definitely recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

This book was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. It had been a while since I had read one of Kendra Elliot's books, but once I started reading it the characters came flooding back like old friends. I absolutely loved the story, the book was well written and there were many twists and turns along the way. I found the story gripping and couldn't put it down once I had started it. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book when it's released!

Wow! There is so much happening in this book. I missed Mercy and the gang! In this book we meet Evan’s long lost sister and her family. Charlotte is a hoot! Ollie plays an integral part in this newest book. I loved the storyline. It kept me on my toes for many hours trying to figure out the clues. I look forward to the next Mercy Kilpatrick book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
