With a unique premise centered around a hidden world of ancient power and deadly secrets, Wildenstein crafts a fast-paced and immersive story. The characters are well-developed, and the chemistry between the leads is intense and engaging.
I am really not a fan of the female narrator. Ive read a few other books narrated by her and she always sounds a bit whiney. I’m sure the story is decent but I just can’t listen to it
I’ve read the book before but was interested in the audio. I was not disappointed. The audio added a whole new dimension to the book I love so much. It made the world more vivid and the characters more real.
I love Olivia Wildenstein other stories, this one however did not accomplish to get to the bar I set for her writing, I have no idea what happened, but this one had some things that didn't make sense. Overall it was entertaining, I liked some aspects of the world-building, and the characters some of them are good, and the original side of mixing Native American with Faerie was refreshing t read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
OMG!!! This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.
I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.
I love this cover so much. When I saw it I had to read it. I love the fairytale vibes from this one. Im a sucker for anything involving the fae. I love Catori. The story was so good and I cannot wait to read the next one right now. Thank you to NetGalley and Olivia Wildenstein for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
I had a very difficult time following along with this. Unfortunately, I did not finish this book and I don;t think I will be returning to it either.
I love this author so I was excited to read some of her earlier works. Unfortunately this wasn’t my favorite but don’t be deterred from reading the author’s other books.
This edition is based on a novella the author had previously published and I did enjoy the concept. However, I felt that while a lot was happening, nothing really happened. It was creative and I felt it had a lot of potential, but it didn’t really hold my attention. Looking at reviews for the next four books it looks like they are rated much higher than this one. I feel like as the first book of the series it was trying to create the atmosphere and introduced characters and concepts, but it probably could have been condensed and combined with next book.
Going off of my experience with book one I was iffy on continuing. However, it looks like the series does get better, so I think I will try the next book and see how it goes. I do like the concept and the characters and their stories do interest me. I think I was just waiting for more to happen.
I listened to this as an audiobook, and I did enjoy the narrator. I normally prefer dual narration but then narrator did a good job of changing her voice for the other characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
I hate to do this, but in this format I Did Not Finish. I typically listen an accelerated listening speed (1.25-1.75) and for whatever reason the audio quality did not translate at an accelerated pace, and I could not tolerate the 1.0 speed.
I intend to read via Kindle Unlimited in the future, and will review accordingly on Goodreads.
I had a very difficult time following along with this. I wanted to like it, but it just did not keep my attention
3.25 This book started off so strong but almost lost me in the middle, I did like the ending but could see this one being a bit forgettable though. After Catori mother mysteriously dies Catori returns home to meet Cruz a medical examiner that seems not quite right Catori starts looking into her mother’s death.while doing so Catori finds a book from her family detailing there family history has hunters. Catori unsure if it is fable or fact keeps researching and growing closer to Cruz.
I will say I had fun with this book and it really had great fall vibes but it was a little forgettable especially in the middle it felt like the plot was a little too drawn out. That being said I thought it was a fun book for the most part and really enjoyed it. I did listen to the audiobook the narrator was ok again don’t know if it was the narration that made me lose interest at times or if the plot. I would like to thank Net Galley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
I hate when I forget to write reviews, I have a horrible memory so when I find out I forgot to write a review it's usually months later and all I can remember is whether I liked or disliked the book. For this one, I remember really liking it, I remember it was creepy, there was maybe suicide? And dead parents? Oh okay I'm remember a bit now, I loved this one but found out there were like 3 or 4 other books in the series and decided to wait until all were out in audio to read them all. Wonder if they are out yet 🤣 but yeah I loved this book!
Unfortunately I could only listen to a couple of chapters, I couldn't follow the narrator's voice acting and couldn't concentrate on the story. I will definitely give a chance the book in ebook format later.
I wasn't able to complete the book. It wasn't well retold, and I have seen more or less the same things retold in most 2020's fantasy novels.
I honestly tried so hard with this book., but I just struggled so hard to finish it. The narrator was honestly really good, but I struggled so hard to follow the story.
Title: Rose Petal Graves (The Lost Clan #1)

Genre: Romance/ Urban Fantasy/ Paranomal
Catori is your average 19-year-old girl, attending college, bunking with a roommate, and has aspirations to become a medical doctor. However, her life is changed when she receives the devastating news that her mother has passed away from a heart attack, even though her mom is very young, never had health issues, and seemed perfectly fine the last time Catori spoke to her.
Therefore, Catori flies home to be with her dad and attend the funeral in the small town of Rowan where she grew up. Her family and friends are all there, but there is something peculiar about the medical examiner who comes to examine her mother’s body. Her mother was a mortician, and the town morgue is in the family home basement, and Catori is shocked when she goes down to see her mother that another casket is down there, empty, save for a few rose petals, but no body in sight. She is even more shocked when her father tells her that her own mother dug up the grave before she died. Her mother claimed it was because of old foundation and the possible ruining of the casket, but Catori cannot bring herself to believe the story, and decides to investigate herself, with the help of a mysterious book that has arrived in her mother’s name.
While the story is very interesting, I was not the biggest fan of the ending. It keep feeling like the ending was going to happen, but new events were occurring. While the location and what ended up happening in the end made sense, the journey to it was a little confusing and frustrating. However, that is not deterring me enough to stop reading the rest of the series. They are available on Kindle Unlimited, and I shall be reading and reviewing them in the future.
Rating: 4/5
I only got about halfway through this book before I DNFed it. I did not DNF this audiobook because of the story. I did not like the audiobook. I didn't really connect with the speaker and it just felt off for me. I wish I had this in hard copy. I know I would have liked it way more. I liked the story, I thought it was really interesting and I really liked the main character. I thought she was well written and very relatable. I also loved the town that they were in and I loved the magic system. The whole idea of this book is just so good but I couldn't get past the audiobook version. I definitely recommend this book but just pick it up in a physical copy!
I didn’t really know what I was going into with this book, I didn’t know it was about faes and a lot of high fantasy. but it was quite nice for the first half, after that, it became a little weird and I didn’t really understood what was going on.
I also thought there were way too many people in it, where some of them didn’t have a meaning to the story, and Cruz disappeared for like half the book, and then he suddenly was the bad guy.
I probably won’t be reading the next two books in the series, and don’t really think there should be more books, it ended pretty fine I think.
also the whole plot with her best friend was so sad and also just awful. they should just have ended up together and no suicide. it would also be a better story for the romance part.
overall it was ok, nothing I would have bought on my own or have picked up at the library, and it was confusing, but very ok.
Olivia Wildestein's Rose Petal Graves tells the story of Catori, a young woman who returns home for her mother unexpected passing. While trying to retrace her mother's last moments, she stumbles upon an ancient empty coffin in a Native American graveyard. In lieu of a skeleton, there were rose petals scattered about the grave. The story picks up as Catori learns of her magical heritage as a hunter and the existence of fairies. Wildenstein's Rose Petal Graves provides a great twist on fae legend by incorporating it into Native American folklore. I'm not particularly a fan or fairy related books but this audiobook made the story easier to engage with and perhaps the inclusion of Native American themes also helped strengthen my interest. Overall, this is my first time hearing or Wildestein's work, and it made me interested in getting to know more of her work.
*I received this e-book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
I couldn't continue listening to this audiobook!! The narrators voice just wasn't enjoyable to listen to and made me grind my teeth when listening to it, I just couldn't concentrate on the actual story
