Although the plot is twisty and convoluted, this novel is certainly gripping. Who is the mysterious house guest at 214 Palmer Street and what secrets do the mounds of earth in the back garden conceal?
You are also left guessing as to the identity of the second narrator of the novel. However, when this is revealed, it is not quite as dramatic as it could be, as she really has very little to do with the plot. Also, the tense build up and denouement is rather overshadowed by the extended ending, where the original crime is detailed several times from different perspectives and the main character’s life is also described in quite considerable detail. Personally, I found that this distracted me a bit from the drama and impact of the solution of the crime.
Still, a great thriller with some interesting characters!
Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this book - all aspects of it. I loved the fact that Sarah is an unreliable narrator because of her injury, I loved the characters and learning their intriguing backstories, and I loved the twists and trying to figure out what was actually going on.
The story was full of little surprises, and told from the point of view of several different characters, it was a delight to try and work out who was telling the truth, and who was embellishing their story slightly.
The narration was great - it was very easy to listen to and was enjoyable company while out on my walks.
Definitely a worthwhile read!
This book had such an intriguing plot description that I had to request it.
There’s always that one person in the neighborhood that always seems to know everyone and everything that’s going on in the area; that’s Maggie in this story. And she’s not buying what’s going on at 214 Palmer Street.
This book starts strong with an allure and mystery. You get different points of view and different timelines to try to piece it all together. You can make some assumptions early on as you pay attention to each of the characters and some hints here and there.
I had a general understanding of what happened and was along for the ride while the protagonist Sarah worked her way through things. With this, some parts of the story were a little more drawn out and some quicker to the point.
The protagonist seemed to be one of the only multi-faceted characters showcasing a range of emotions that the reader could mirror while reading/listening.
Moral of the story: secrets and lies never make a relationship stronger.
Thanks to the author, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the audio ARC of this book!
This had the components of a good story & started out strong. Ultimately though, it fell a little flat and left more to be desired. Initially I was intrigued by the blurb & the title and desperately needed to know what happened at 214 Palmer Street. It was fast paced enough to hold my attention & I listened to the whole book in a day. The narration was really well done. Overall, it was an enjoyable listen, albeit pretty predictable.
Many thanks to the publisher, author & NetGalley for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book through Netgalley having never heard of the author I wanted to try something new. If you are a thriller lover this is definitely worth a read. What I loved most was the strong female lead wanting to get to the truth. The character development is strong, my one is issue is i think the history between the friends could have been delved into deeper, especially the family of the friend that died it would have helped with a deeper emotional connection.
This mysterious story ultimately connects three people who were friends when they were teenagers. As the book opens we find that Sarah is unconscious due to a head injury. We also have Maggie who saw the blinds moving in her neighbor's house. Knowing that her neighbors were away on vacation, nosey Maggie intends on finding out who it was behind those blinds.
Meanwhile, Sarah is now at the hospital and barely remembers what got her there. Who struck her and left her for dead? While this story shifts time frames and characters, the pieces of a complex puzzle slowly fall into place, and this includes why Sarah was hit and who might have hit her.
Lies, secrets and betrayals play right along with intrigue in this captivating and intense read by Karen McQuestion. Something nefarious definitely happened at 214 Palmer Street and in this chilling book twists and turns lead to a shocking conclusion.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
2.5 stars
This is the second book that I have read lately where I cannot say that I like it or that I didn't like it. I am ambivalent about it. I also don't think that the narrator did the book any favors.
This is a book about secrets, suspicions, relationships and how the past never wants to stay in the past.
Someone has hit Sarah over the head with a rock on her Patio, she doesn't know who and once the ball gets rolling in this book, I could not believe any of the characters put it together especially her husband! Grr....
I won’t go too much into the plot - But there is a nosey neighbor and a woman who is in someone's home and has a plausible story for being there. Why is she there? Why does she have suspicions?
Why indeed!
So, as I mentioned I am quite ambivalent about this book. There are just too many things that dragged this book down for me. The believability of the characters, my not feeling any connection to them or being able to care about what is going on with them, etc.
There were parts that weren't half bad and there were parts, that I just rolled my eyes. I generally love all Bookouture books, and I was shocked that this one just wasn’t for me.
Reviews are all over the place with this one, so read some others and decide for yourself if you want to visit 214 Palmer Street.

I received a free review copy from the publisher, via NetGalley - thank you.
I listened to this as an audiobook.
This was a fun read, but a little predictable. The relationship between Sarah and her husband was slightly confusing, as I felt like it did an about-turn three quarters of the way through. I never really connected with any of the characters.
The ending was interesting, although a little far fetched. I would have liked a slightly more sinister angle.
This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension - impossible to put it down
This book was overall thrilling throughout the entire reading experience. It kept me engaged and guessing from the first page. I thought at one point I had the ending all figured out for the most part and was disappointed because I never guess the endings in thrillers. I’m happy to say I was wrong in how everything played out (I love a good twist), however, some details were very easy to figure out and some of the hints and foreshadowing leading up to the ending was very obvious. I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars because it kept me engaged, excited and I couldn’t wait to finish it. Great for a quick read.

First chapter of the story is quite a mishap. I don't quite understand fully on where and when the story start until it reaches the chapter where Sarah figure something out.
Sarah is the wife of Kirk , one of the old school friends of Gavin and Clarise.
First of it all. I felt Kirk is very controlling to Sarah, it makes my blood boiled sometimes which is great, as it means that it can trigger you because of the story.
.
Near on the end of the plot is interesting, you thought you know who killed who but there is a twisty moment . I'm glad I finished the whole thing .

Started out great and I was hooked immediately. Sadly, it became pretty boring once all the characters had been introduced. At about the 2/3 point I was finishing just to finish.

I received a free Advanced Reading Copy via NetGalley in exchange for a complete and honest review. The narration has good pace and flow, and the narrators voices seemed right for the characters they were portraying. I listened to this as an audio book and felt the narrators really helped bring the story to life. The story was a little predictable but overall a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A nosy neighbor might be able to save the day. Maggie knows her neighbors are gone on vacation, so when she sees the blinds moving, she must investigate.
Maggie goes next door and meets Sarah who claims she is house sitting and the owner did not have time to let Maggie know. Maggie finds Sarah pleasant, but wonders if she is telling the truth. Sarah is going in panic mode as he did not want anyone to notice she was in the house.
Sarah has had a tragic event and has left her husband. Her husband Kirk’s friend is a policeman and starts to investigate Sarah’s disappearance.
Thank you NetGalley, Karen McQuestion and Bookouture for this psychological thriller that I did not want to end. This book comes out April 6, 2022 and I highly recommend it.

this was good. almost... the story is good and the plot is really good but predictable. so it's not as much thrilling as it should be, at the beginning I was off to a fast start but as I went on the story got somewhat boring but still ok.
the characters made some illogical decisions which was reallyyyy annoying. but at the end it was an ok read and I don't regret reading it.
Thanks to NetGallery for providing my copy.
This will be published on NetGallery and Goodreads.
Fast paced though I thought the characters seems to be a little wispy washy at time. The character of Sarah seemed to go from needy to strong. If not for getting an ARC from NetGalley I’m not sure I would have picked unit up. I did enjoy it though so I’m giving it 3.5 stars.
Refreshingly Different
🧡 This was not your average “gotcha” thriller. In fact, I guessed a lot of the plot somewhere around the 60% mark. But I don’t care. The characters were interesting, the premise intriguing and I wanted to see it through. I’d much rather it that way round than a completely unrealistic plot for the sake of a forced surprise.
💚 Read this for the love-to-hate characters, for the tense dynamics and the hope of comeuppance for those who deserve it.

SOUNDBITE
🎧 Thoroughly enjoyable, natural performance by Stacey Glemboski. She had her work cut out for her with so many similar female characters to voice, but she differentiated them well.
🎧 You need to have your wits about you when listening to this. There are lots of characters to keep track of and several narrative voices. Other than that, it flows well and I happily had it on throughout the course of my day.
Big thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC in return for an honest review.
well I did not expect this turn of events when I started this book. some stranger in a house that obviously does not belong to her. is she really the housesitter that she claims to be???
In my humble opinion one better goes into this book without knowing too much. just take time to get to know the characters and their stories. it all comes down to a well paced plot with a very satisfying end!!!
I particularly enjoyed the narration and thank
#NetGalley and #Bookouture Audio for an advanced listening copy
This book was quite predictable, but the writer seemed to try and throw twists and turns in there that were really thrilling or well thought out (which didn't work). The beginning started off so strong, but the ending was kind of meh. I almost feel like the book could've been shorter, especially because the characters were all unlikeable. The saving grace for this book, is the narrator.

I had really high expectations for this book because the premise sounded AMAZING. When I think of mystery/thrillers, I expect some big plot twist at the end but this book really didn't have that which let me down a lot. Also, it wasn't always clear which character's head we were in which made it very confusing at times.
