This was a quick and easy anthology that somewhat lacked some depth and despite the interesting concept and the intrigue of the myth retelling that pulled me into this anthology.
I usually love poetry but I found that this was lacking something that it really needed to make it perfect. The illustrations added a different visual to support the poems and help to create the imagery in the anthology.
Overall, although there are some lovely poems, the majority are short and underdeveloped. I really liked the concept of this anthology and feel as though it has a lot of potential as an idea.
First thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
I am fairly new to poetry. Ms. Kelez writes lyrical poetry which I truly enjoyed. It left me wanting for more as it is a very short collection. There are moments that I believe anyone could identify with some of her writing. There is trauma behind it which is heartbreaking. There are beautiful allusions and some direct references to angels and mermaids.
The publisher should know the Kindle version does not work. While I could read the poetry it needed to be downloaded to read it properly.
"don't be a gatekeeper of your dreams"
A collection of poems about the legend of Melusina. A European folktale I have never heard of. And I didn't feel like I needed to know about it before hand.
It is a quick read. And as much as I would have liked more. I loved and enjoyed every poem in this book.
I was given a copy by NetGalley for an honest review.
''Don't get tied down. Create your own waves. Sing your own song.''
Just like many people, I was drawn in by this poetry book thanks to its fairytale-like cover and its short pages. However, I didn't connect that much with the story, but I liked the drawings and the folklore setting.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an e-arc in exchange of an honest review.
This was a wonderful collection of short poems that show a different interpretation on a folklore story. I loved reading it in this format instead of a story and it felt like you could relate to parts of the story straight away.
There are definitely themes of feeling as though you don't belong which I'm sure everyone can relate to. But this is something I liked about the poems. They felt almost raw and as though you could tell that Melusina was feeling pain.
I love anything to do with mermaids and mythical creatures so I really enjoyed this short collection.
I'm not sure if there's a problem with my digital review copy from Netgalley, but there were only a few poems in this book, which was surprising because I was expecting more. My review will only be based on the few poems I've read.
The Mermaid with Angel Wings is a collection of short poetry inspired by the legend of Melusina/Melusine who is a mythical creature of European folklore. I have never heard of this mythical creature before, but she resembles a mermaird or sometimes serpent with wings in the folklore.
Of the few poems I read, there is a lot of pain and sadness experienced by the persona. She does not fit in, but in rare moments, she talks about the man who loved her. I think my personal favourite would be Demon and Blue Heart. I feel like I was able to relate to these two a lot.
Overall, it's a simple collection of poetry, easy to be read even if you don't read a lot of poetry. However, apart from the two that I really liked, the others were just okay for me.
I like this because there are a lot that I relate to. The life of someone who feels disconnected from others but still seeks to be connected to some.
I was drawn in by the cover, I plead guilty.
The Mermaid with Angel Wings is a poetry collection inspired by the legend of Melusina, a mythical creature of European folklore. That description (and the cover) immediately made me want to read this but, unfortunately, it fell pretty flat. I think it was because it was way shorter than I expected, I mean, it's only 40 pages long, of which every other page is a drawing. It was over before I had time to form any kind of connection or emotion. I did like the writing style, though, I just wish I would've gotten more.
I'm not gonna lie the cover intrigued me. I have been enarmoured with mermaids since a little girl. While I am not a regular reader of poetry this was a nice change. I liked the layout and folklore setting. It's a short book of poetry too!
I was gifted this ARC from Netgalley and BookBuzz.net. My review is 100% my own and honest!
This book was an Arc offered to me.
I love the way this story was told through brief poetry and the way this changes between a perspective of curse and miracle.
I know it’s late and I read this fast, so I’m thinking I just couldn’t get a deeper understanding on this while in the state I am in, so I’ll probably reread it.
Before the reread, I will try and do some research on the topic to have a deeper understanding of the story.
Overall beautiful discovery
This cover is absolutely stunning, but the poetry inside is surface level at best, half-assed at worst. I thought the concept sounded interesting, but the poetry didn't do much with it. Unfortunate.
Loved the imagery on paper and in your mind. Short and simply beautifully written poetry. Honestly wish the book would have been longer.
