Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I’m not usually a short story fan but I really enjoyed this booked. A collection of mysteries by different authors with some outshining others but overall a very good read!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this collection of short stories featuring Miss Jane Marple, but I was pleasantly surprised. Writing a short mystery story must be tricky as there's not much time to build the tension. The twelve contemporary authors all stayed true to the Agatha Christie/ Miss Marple type and each story had its own merits. Some I enjoyed much more than others, but as a collection I thought it was great. Thank you to Net Galley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Such a lovely book. Short, classic style who done its. The stories all follow the usual miss marple style that we all know so well. Each story stands alone and has its own mystery which of course Miss Marple solves. This book feels quite nostalgic - It’s like stepping back in time and settling down with a familiar friend.

When you go into this, you can tell that the twelve short stories are written by different authors - and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. They approach Jane Marple and her nephew Raymond differently, with her adventures taking place in St Mary Mead and others much further afield as she travels to the USA and China.
If short stories are your thing, you may really get your teeth stuck into this one. But for me, it felt like most of them felt a bit lacking - I wanted more. And I would happily read a full blown novel by some of the authors, with some bringing back my memories from watching the old Miss Marple tv show - I’m looking at you Natalie Haynes, Ellie Griffiths and Jean Kwok!
Thanks to NetGalley, the team at Harper Collins and the author for the opportunity to read this review copy.

A brilliant collection of Miss Marple inspired crime and mystery stories. I'm a devoted Agatha Christie fan, I love to try and turn my hand to sleuthing the conundrums that she presents her readers so I was intrigued to see this collection.
Twelve well known writers with permission of the Christie estate lend their talent to writing a Marple inspired story. Particular favourites were Lucy Foley's and Val McDermid's stories. It was like stepping back in time to read more adventures of the wondrous Jane Marple

It’s always the case with short stories that you gel with some more than others and I think I enjoyed the majority of these, but found there were some that were not particularly stand out either. A mix of authors and writing styles so there, in theory, should be something for everyone!

I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. They had some great authors who were clearly fans of Agatha Christie and mirrored the style perfectly. Some weren't as believable and I preferred the first half to the second.
Overall a great read that id recommend to all.
Thanks for the arc.

I love Agatha Christie, i love short stories and essays so i was really excited to receive and read a copy of this book! Each essay was really unique, written by some great authors/writers in their own name, and i really enjoyed it and it felt almost nostalgic to sit down with this.

Not for me. Might have been because they were short stories, but I found that although the authors got the characters of Miss Marple with her quirks and mannerisms down to a t, the stories lacked suspense and failed to grab me.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for letting me review this arc in exchange for an honest review.

An absolute treat 12 Miss Marple stories, I loved all of them, and didn't mind the bits that were a bit "modern" in some of them.

Great collection of 12 short stories from 12 diverse authors, each featuring their unique take on Agatha Christie's Miss Marple.
Fun to see how each writer's style and background shines through, while still retaining the character's essence.

So pleased to report I was more than pleasantly surprised by this collection of short stories, I was wonderful to be reunited with Marple!
I really enjoyed the majority of the stories & there was only a couple I thought missed the mark.

As a Christie fan I was a little nervous about this collection, but the author’s did a remarkable job staying true to the source material whilst also injecting a modern sensibility to the Queen of Crime. Joyous.

As someone who enjoys pretty much anything by Agatha Christie, I had mixed feelings coming to this book. On the one hand, I was excited about how contemporary female authors would interpret the task, but also a little anxious wondering how any new interpretations could live up to such expectations.
And from mixed feelings, to mixed results. As with many anthologies the results – were a little varied. Some of the stories soared, others were less impressive.
For me the best of the bunch were Val McDermid’s ‘A second murder at the vicarage’, Kate Moss’s ‘The mystery of the acid soil’, and Ruth Ware’s, ‘Miss Marple’s Christmas’.
Overall I would say this book is a great read and an enjoyable collection of stories. While not all of them create a recognisable version of Miss Marple, and I didn’t feel they really had the Christie magic, they’re all entertaining and a very pleasant way to spend a few hours reading.
With thanks to the publishers and Net Galley for an ARC in return for an honest review.

It was so great to get back to the Agatha Christie world... and I was a bit wary of new authors writing this character but I loved the tone and the stories, it was really fun (despite being more of a Hercule Poirot fan myself)
The one in NY was my least favorite but otherwise I liked them all.

I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and was thrilled to receive an ARC of this book some weeks ago,. My initial feelings are some authors captured the spirit of Agatha much more so than others, and some certainly researched their Christie books a bit better, providing humorous and timely links to characters in the authors original novels. An interesting read but nothing can beat the original master of the genre.

I'm a huge fan of Agatha Christie and Miss Marple so this collection was a real treat, especially cos it includes stories by some of my favourite authors like Lucy Foley, Val McDermid and Ruth Ware. Really enjoyed it!

Twelve contemporary writers take on Agatha Christie’s famous detective Miss Marple. It’s a great idea and contains some excellent stories each quite different but somehow encapsulating the nosy Parker busybody we all love. The nuances of Miss Marple’s personality are here, the hesitations, and tics… "Oh now, that won’t do" as she talks to herself. Her concentration on little details and ability to get places she shouldn’t and hear things no one else does… they are all here. Some stories are better than others but they all do justice to the esteemed lady from St Mary’s Mead.
My own favourite is a story by Dreda Say Mitchell featuring Miss Marple and her friend Miss Bella at a wedding. Lots of intrigue among the murder, misunderstandings, assumptions, and everything we expect.
I’d say this was a success and the writers chosen have done Miss Marple proud. I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley

Harper Collins has ventured into brave, new territory with Marple: Twelve New Stories. The publishing house commissioned a dozen of the most talented and popular female writers of the time to create a Miss Marple-inspired short story, all adhering to certain parameters to best honour Agatha Christie's much loved lady detective and most famous resident of St Mary Mead.
I listened to the Audible audiobook version of Marple even though I bought a hardback, signed copy at the Capital Crime Festival in late September/early October.
My main takeaways in summary:
I liked how Miss Marple's typical breath of time was retained.
I valued how each author really drew out Miss Marple's amazing observations of her environment and people's behaviour.
I enjoyed Val McDermid's story very much - it had her signature dry wit and clever cues from people, not suffering any fools as she did so.
I liked how Miss Marple inhabited New York in Miss Marple Takes Manhattan by Alyssa Cole - that she was in a busy, bustling metropolis rather than a quaint English village.
I was pleased to see a Christmas story within the collection - Miss Marple's Christmas by Ruth Ware was a delight to read.
All in all, part of me was glad to imagine Miss Marple in these new scenarios but another part of me sort of feels she should be left solely to the Queen of Crime's backlist.

This is a great collection of short stories by twelve different authors all inspired and trying their hand at creating new Ms Marple stories and they did exactly that. They all took the quintessential Ms Marple character and made the stories very reminiscent whilst providing something new and exciting.
I loved this short story collection as I could get a quick hit of Ms Marple, murder and intrigue all wrapped up in short and quick stories perfect for a train journey or bus ride. It's a great book to dip in and out of and hopefully it will introduce Ms Marple to younger readers who may not know about her wonderful character.
