Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.
A wee enemies to lovers storyline, not always done well but in this case it was for the most part.
I enjoyed this book, but I think some of the story seemed a bit rushed, I would have liked it to be a bit longer to give more depth.
I’m not sure what exactly I was expecting when I set out to read this book, I just know this was not it. And it was in the best possible way. Pleasantly surprised sums it up well.
Celeb romance books are hit or miss for me but I had to check this out because I’m a huge fan of Susannah’s Chemistry Lessons series. This is definitely different from that but no less entertaining.
I really liked the fact that it’s basically a novella, which helped to keep the story going. We weren’t bogged down by the nuances of acting and everything Hollywood. We were able to focus specifically on the relationship between Kimberleigh and Spencer. By the way, they were really cute together and I was rooting for them from the beginning. I loved how off putting and cold Kimberleigh tried to act and how easily it seemed Spencer was able to get through to her even though it really wasn’t. They were perfect for each other.
While this isn’t my favorite book of Susannah’s, it’s still great and I highly suggest you read it.
An honest review given in exchange for an ARC via NetGalley.
QOTD: Have you ever been to Hollywood?
My A: Nope! I've never been to California in general, but if I did go, I'd be up north in the trees. 🥰

After reading and loving My Cone and Only by Susannah Nix, I was excited to see this novella pop up on NetGalley! At a little under 200 pages, this novella introduces readers to the glitz and glamour of the rich and famous in the Starstruck series. Kimberleigh is a well established actress trying to stay relevant and keep her head above water. Spencer is a charming and witty television presenter.
.
This story packed a punch, even with the shorter length! I really liked the plot and I enjoyed reading about famous characters who WEREN'T snobs. Usually I just end up rolling my eyes at A-lister characters, but I actually really liked these two!
.
If you like enemies to lovers with spice and swoon, need a palate cleanser on the shorter side to pull you out of a slump or are just looking for a solid romance book... this one's for you. 🥳

BLURB:
She’s an A-list Hollywood starlet. He’s a gossip reporter. Sleeping with the enemy has never been sweeter…
Kimberleigh Cress didn’t get to be one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood without learning how to protect herself. Rule number one? Don’t show weakness. Ever. Especially not in front of the press. So when a sleazy tabloid reporter comes upon her during a vulnerable moment, the last thing she expects is kindness.
Sexy, charming, and surprisingly thoughtful, Spencer Devlin isn’t at all who Kimberleigh thought he was. After their fateful encounter, she can’t seem to stay away from him—even though she knows she should.
Spencer never expected to share an unlikely connection with the spoiled starlet who hates his guts. With the face of a goddess and an attitude to match, Kimberleigh Cress is one ice queen he’d love to melt. Now that she’s gotten under his skin, he’ll do anything to keep her in his life. Or will he?
This is a review in exchange for a NetGalley ARC.
This light, fast-paced romance was a cute and easy read. I liked the two main characters, though I wish there had been more of a slow burn (or a prologue with their original meeting at the commercial years before that was only briefly mentioned). For being enemies-to-lovers, I understood the original dynamic, but I thought there could've been a bit more in the enemies category before moving to the lovers category.
I love Susannah Nix, and will continue to read what she has to offer. I'm looking forward to the next books in this series!
I really enjoyed this one! It was a cute and I read It in one sitting! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing early access to this title!
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It was a cute story line - fairly standard beach read. I took a star off as the story line was a bit choppy in places, but otherwise I very much enjoyed this book. The characters are relatable (frustratingly so) and the plot felt true to the genre.

Review~
Star Bright is enemies to lovers, celebrity movie star and interviewer book. This is duo pov and I love Kimberleigh’s character so much.
Kimberleigh is a movie star celebrity while Spencer is an interviewer. I love how this book showed how important mental health is.
This book is book part of a series called the Starstruck series.
This book was so fun to read. I love how this book shows that there is going to be obstacles when being in a relationship through Kimberleigh and Spensers love story. I love how to put their problems on the side an fought for each other.
Overall this book was amazing I really recommend you reading this book along with the series. This book was an easy read and it kept my interest and I now find myself loving celebrity tropes in books!!
Thank you to @netgalley and @susannahnixauthor for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
Thank you Netgally and publisher for an ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed this book and it was a very quick read for me. It had my attention from beginning to end. Kimberleigh and Spenser appear to come from 2 different worlds but deep down they have many similarities. Kimberleigh is a famous actress who has reached her breaking point when it comes to her fame resulting in panic attacks. Spenser is a entertainment reporter who rubbed Kimberleigh the wrong way in a previous interview. She then blacklisted him for future interviews. During an event Kimberleigh hides in a closet to get through a panic attack and Spenser steps into the same closet to take a phone call. Despite their feud Spenser then helps Kimberleigh get through her panic attack and helps her escape the event without anyone noticing. During her panic attack Spenser told her he experiences them as well and gave her his grandfathers ring to help her through. A few days later Kimberleigh has Spenser come to her home to pick up the ring sparks fly. They both get to know secrets about each other and later in the story a secret is exposed but was it by one of them or someone else (I’m not telling, u have to read to find out).
Overall this was a great book and I didn’t find that it dragged on and the story flowed well. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series!
Thank you so much to Net Galley and to the publisher for providing me with a free copy of Star Bright (Starstruck Series) by Susannah Nix in exchange for an honest review. All of the following opinions are all my own.
3.75 out of 5 stars
I started this book after reading another novel on Net Galley which disappointed me. This novel was also based in Hollywood. As I went into reading Star Bright, I was not expecting much after my last Hollywood Romance disappointment. I read this in one sitting and I would say it was thoroughly enjoyable. I loved the mental health representation shown in the movie star, Kimberleigh! I also really enjoyed how this book addressed "Hollywood standards". I was a little worried about these issues being addressed in such a short novel (200ish pages). Everything about this was a pleasant surprise. The characters left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside, which is not my normal reaction to gossip reporters!
Well done! I will be posting a review of this in my Instagram Story Reviews Tab
Tropes: enemies to lovers, fluff, Hollywood stars
Ugh another five star read by Nix! I've been enthralled by Nix since My Cone and Only and have found another series I am certain to continue! Love love loveddd this!!!
I've enjoyed Susannah Nix's books in the past and this one seemed to follow some of the same, fun, flirty storylines I've come to expect. I liked that the characters connected over their shared anxiety and their trust issues, but it was a little too insta-love for me. There were sparks for sure, but it seemed to go very quickly from enemies to lovers without a semblance of friendship in between. An easy read with lots of fun banter and some steam. Not one of my favorite SN books, but I'm not mad about it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have mixed feelings about Star Bright by Susannah Nix. I was really excited about this one because I liked the whole celebrity and reporter plot.
I liked how they connected over the girls anxiety moment and they became friends.
However, I felt like the romance plot was hate for like five seconds to instant love. By chapter six there was already steam and spice and I usually think there should have been more friendship connection first.
It also felt like I was missing some facts about their past too. They tried to fill them but still felt disconnected a bit. I still will try the authors other books that I have by her but this one did not work for me.
This was a two star rating. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for this ARC.
This was a cute little novella for Susannah Nix’s, Starstruck series and can be read as a stand alone. It about an private actress Kimberleigh Cress and Hollywood reporter Spencer Devlin. After their first interview together Kimberleigh takes a strong dislike toward him. That changes at a party where he helps her out of a situation. That begins both letting each other in not only in their current lives but also into their past that they hold so close..
My favorite things about this book was the character writing especially of the leads Kimberleigh and Spencer. Both strong characters with such vulnerability to them. The side characters also entertained me a great deal. I like the anxiety rep in this. There are a million ways to show anxiety in books but the way it’s rep in this is the one I deal with the most so I like connecting to that. The banter especially in the beginning was something I also really liked. The pacing of the book was my biggest disappointment. It felt like the plots didn’t have time to settle before moving on to something else. Also was not into some of the side plots.
I am giving the book three stars. I would recommend to anyone that want a short, cute, enemies to lover read.
This was my first Susannah Nix book but i’m surely gonna read the other books in the series.
I’ve loved reading Bright Star for both the plot and the likeliness of its characters, in particular the female main character: Kimberleigh has learned the hard way that she could only rely upon herself (and her bff Luna), is happy with her ice queen reputation and thinks she has her life all figured out, including her hatred for Spencer Devlin, a gossip reporter with whom she had a fallout during an interview.
However people can change and admit their mistakes, which was exactly what Spencer did.
I’m gonna be honest, i wished there were more emotionally mature and supportive men like Spencer around; he definitely makes the bad boys seem overrated😅 and he’s the right person to stand by Kimberleigh’s side hopefully for a lifetime.♥️
I usually am not a fan of instalove but I didn’t even focus on that while reading, because the book flows very easily! Loved the steamy scene too❤️🔥
Read this if you like: Enemies to lovers, novellas, dual POV, mental health representation, light spice 🔥
Ah! I love a romance series. This is novella and book 1 of the Starstruck series. It's under 200 pages. It seems to be a prequel as there are 2 already out.
Kimberleigh Cress is an A-list starlet. She didn’t get to be one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood without learning how to protect herself. Rule number one? Don’t show weakness. Ever. Especially not in front of the press.
When a sleazy tabloid reporter comes upon her during a vulnerable moment, the last thing she expects is kindness. Sexy, charming, and surprisingly thoughtful, Spencer Devlin isn’t at all who she thought he was. After that, she can’t seem to stay away from him, even though she knows she should.
Spencer never expected to share an unlikely connection with the spoiled starlet who hates his guts. With the face of a goddess and an attitude to match, Kimberleigh is one ice queen he’d love to melt.
Enemies to lovers is by far my favorite romance trope. There isn't a ton of banter because it's a short book. I love Susannah's books. Her character development is always great. The chemistry between her main characters is always believable. This one isn't heavy on the spice but there is some. I loved this couple. I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.
Highly recommend this! It comes out April 19th. Thank you to the author Susannah Nix, and Haver Street Press for the ARC! ❤
Kimberleigh Cress is a famous actress quickly approaching burnout. She attends a charity event that sends her over the edge. She is surprisingly helped by Spencer Devlin, a celebrity gossip reporter and her sworn enemy. After the event, Kimberleigh realizes there is a lot more to Spencer than the latest TMZ-style scoop.
I loved the enemies-to-lovers trope between Kimberleigh and Spencer. I actually wish there had been more of a back story about their enemy status; I felt like they pretty quickly turned into lovers. In Star Bright, Kimberleigh feels vulnerable due to certain mental health episodes. As someone who has also experienced these episodes, I thought Susannah Nix wrote very accurate descriptions of these events without turning them into dramatic plot twists. I also felt like Kimberleigh’s concerns about her privacy as a celebrity and hesitation to trust others (particularly a reporter) were realistic. The big misunderstanding wasn’t a huge surprise, but what I did find unique compared to other romance novels was that Kimberleigh really had to grovel, instead of Spencer.
Overall, I really enjoyed the first book in the Starstruck series and I’m looking forward to the others! In the past I have not been drawn to celebrity romance, but Star Bright was refreshingly real and full of emotion.
Content warnings: death of parents (off page), panic attack (on page)
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this.
I fell in love with the premise and the book followed its interesting synopsis. Both Kimberleigh and Spencer are great characters with SO many layers that we're discovering along with them..
I really enjoying the story. Just was a little too fast paced for me.
this is the first time in awhile that i’ve read a book in one day! i absolutely adored this novella and all the characters introduced in it! the plot reminded me of annabel monaghan’s “nora goes off script” if the roles were reversed because like leo, kimberleigh isn’t a fan of the spotlight. at first, i couldn’t stand spencer and his overconfident aura. but by the second chapter, i was swooning over him! he’s so gentle, patient, and a great listener. i also loved kimberleigh’s best friend, luna. we all need a sidekick like her! she’s such a spunky gal who’s always looking out for her friend.
but now… for the romance! the chemistry between kimberleigh and spencer was undeniable! all i can say is that this read is filled with lots of steam! i only felt that their make-up/apology felt too quick. having said that, i was totally satisfied with the way everything wrapped up in the epilogue. it was so beautifully written and filled my heart with happiness! since i’ve gotten a taste of susannah nix’s starstruck series, i can’t wait to dive into the other novellas!
A short, but totally fun novel to start the Starstruck Series!
Kimberleigh Cress is an A-list Hollywood actress, and to get to the top she knows exactly what she has to do; be untouchable, no weakness in sight, an ice queen. And she should never EVER sleep with the enemy... not when said enemy is a gossip reporter always looking for a scoop, who already did her wrong once. Oh, but when is said reporter the only one who makes her feel alive anymore? things are about to get messy!
I'm a little sad that this book was so short, because it was so much fun and it also gave me ALL the right feelings. Kimberleigh is THE celebrity, but she is also a bit of a mystery to her fans and the press, with a lot of secrets under the rug that no one has yet been able to find, and trying to put that past behind her, she has built walls so high to around her, that no one has been able to bring her down…until Spencer. Now this man was ambitious and work-focused, trying to move beyond reporting gossip; he did Kimberleigh wrong in an interview a while ago and that's why she can't see him, but now that they've met again? he was the one who kept her anchored to reality and saved her from herself.
After truly getting to know each other, they did realize that there was much more that their public persona, and they fell in love with each other so quickly, that when everything exploded in their faces it was just as intense; there were cute words, declarations of love and groveling, everything I need to stay until the end.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Susannah Nix for the ARC! I loved Star Bright!
Star Bright will be out April 19 and it tells the story of movie star Kimberleigh Cress and gossip reporter Spencer Devlin - and movie stars and press really shouldn't mix, right? When Spencer ends up helping her out at an event Kimberleigh begins to wonder if there is more to Spencer and his cocky manners than she has always thought, but due to their pasts they both have trouble trusting anyone, let alone anyone in Hollywood.
Star Bright is a truly wonderful novella filled with emotion and as always Susannah Nix proves to be an excellent storyteller! I haven't read any of the other books in this series yet but now I'm sure I will - I already have read Nix's King Family books and can't wait for book three in that series! So maybe the Starstruck series will keep me occupied until then because now I really want to read the other books, too.
I have posted reviews of Star Bright on Instagram and Goodreads on April 8.
