Summary: Kimberleigh is an A List actress who hides a lot of her true self from the public. Imagine her surprise when Spencer Delvin, renowned journalist, comes along and pulls them all out of her. But not for the publicity.
Thoughts:
I fell for these characters so fast. Kimberleigh was funny and witty from the get go and Spencer was so kind and understanding and sweet (and also funny) that I was rooting for this pair from their first meeting.
My only qualm is that this book wasn’t long enough! Some parts felt like they moved a tad bit too fast; I wanted to see more of their relationship in certain instances.
However, the way it all panned out, the swoons I felt, the ending? Amazing. Incredible. I want more of these two specifically!
Star Bright is a short and sweet Hollywood Romance that will leave you swooning. It was incredibly cute and a great idea for a story. I mean, an A-list Hollywood actress and a notable celebrity news reporter?? It doesn't seem like the two would work as a couple, but I think these differences are what makes their relationship so sweet and special.
I will say that this is a very short book and the story suffers because of it. It felt like we start reading the story in the middle of the plot. There isn't a lot of elaboration or explanation and elements of the story felt very sudden. The relationship was also incredibly insta love-y. One minute we are told that Kimberleigh hates Spencer and that he is the person in Hollywood that she detests the most, and then by 30% through the book they are already having sex and saying I love you. Spencer even admits before the end of the second chapter that he is developing feelings for Kimberleigh after only having one substantial interaction. I'm not sure if this is technically supposed to be enemies to lovers, but if it is, they failed the enemies portion.
Something that the book does really well is the anxiety/panic attack representation. The panic attacks are described very realistically and Kimberleigh's struggles with anxiety are handled with a lot of respect and realism. It is one of the more central plot lines in the book and is what initially bonds Spencer and Kimberleigh.
The book is a fun, fluffy, and light-hearted short read, so I do recommend it. It is fun for what it is.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an early Arc. Star Bright is out on April 19, 2022.
I enjoyed this celebrity romance so much. Kimberleigh and Spencer solid dislike for each other due to an interview gone bad, but when he helps her through a panic attack at an unfortunate time, their view of each other changes in all the best ways. This story is short, fast paced, super engaging and steamy! It was just the right read to sink into late at night when I needed a little fun in my life. I can't wait to get deeper into this world and see what happens with other characters!
This was such a fun read! Definitely a breath of fresh air. You’ll fall in love with Spencer, and Kimberleigh! Hands down would recommend this short read to anyone!
A short and frothy Hollywood romance perfect for fans of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!
I loved this quick read and am surprised at how much story and emotion the author was able to convey in so few pages. Kimberleigh was perfect as the Hollywood ice queen and her background showed why she was so guarded. It was great to see Spencer slowly breaking down her walls and Kimberleigh learning to trust more. The epilogue was very charming as well!
I especially loved the writing style of this, succinct and yet still evocative.
This seems to be a series as well, so I'm going to pick up the next book as well!
(Thank you to NetGalley, Susannah Nix and Haver Street Press for providing me with an eARC for this book in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions in this review are my own.)
Star Bright was a fun and quick romance novella about actress Kimberleigh Cress and reporter Spencer Devlin. Although they started off as enemies, they quickly fell for each other and I really enjoyed reading about them. I really loved their dynamic and I just couldn't stop grinning throughout this novella.
Whilst it was a light hearted read, it also touched on panic attacks, which was represented really well and I found it interesting to read from the perspective of an introverted actress.
This was the second book I've read by Susannah Nix and it definitely won't be the last!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It was such a good story I loved the enemies to lover aspect it's always fun to read those one I love the chemistry between Spencer and kimberleah it was so explosive from the beginning
For a quick, dual-POV, light spice, cute, Hollywood romance, readers cannot go wrong with Star Bright by Susannah Nix. With summer around the corner, this is an easy to read story is perfect for beach reads and relaxing days in the sun.
This novella is about Kimberleigh Cress, an icy in-demand actress, à la Anya Taylor-Joy or Florence Pugh, and Spencer Devlin, a leading smirking gossip reporter, à la Ryan Seacrest. Following an invasive and embarrassing interview between the two a year ago, Kimberleigh has blacklisted Spencer, refusing further interaction with him as much as he can. When he finds her in a vulnerable moment and displays humanity, Kimberleigh is surprised and their judgments against the other begin to thaw in face of a stronger connection between them. As their relationship progresses, Kimberleigh struggles over how much she can trust the man whose job is selling her secrets to the public.
Star Bright is not the most original tale, and nor is it the most twisty. In fact, it can be pretty predictable. Despite that, the predictability works in Star Bright’s favor. Kimberleigh and Spencer both have had hard childhoods and difficult lives in the public eye. Reading about their ability to ease into their relationship, which keeps both from engaging in their more workaholic behavior, was a written version of a bubble bath after a long day. The initial animosity between them is resolved quickly, mostly due to the personal work having been done off-page before the book began. With the cover of anger gone, Kimberleigh and Spencer discover the sparks between them are just enough to meld their lives together perfectly. By picking up this novel, the story does not engage readers in reflecting on their own behaviors or understanding psychologically characters. It does gives them an easy respite into the world of two pretty people discovering how to let their walls down, which can be just as important.
And for those curious about Star Bright’s spice rating, I’d given this story a solid 🌶/5. There is an explicit sex scene when the main couple initially gets together, but past it, most steamy scenes are fade-to-black or mentioned in passing.

3.5⭐️
Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ARC!
I can’t believe how quickly I got through this book. It was such a quick, cute read. This author was a novelty for me - and I am not disappointed. The chapters were short and helped make the writing flow. Admittedly, not much happens in this book, but somehow I wasn’t bored for a second. Kimberleigh and Spencer are very endearing characters - as individuals and as a couple. They get together very quickly, but for once it didn’t really bother me - the chemistry between the two of them was there, and they have a history. The author makes it work. If you are looking for a light, quick, slightly spicy romance book, this might be worth picking up.
I loved it, I'm not a big fan of famous characters but Susannah Nix changed my mind with this book
.
The representation of panic attacks and anxiety is very well developed and contrasted with the past and present of the characters. Separately, they are both interesting, but every moment they were together they were incredible, perfect and heart warming
.
Kimberleigh Cress is a Hollywood actress trying to stay on the top she reached after so much hard work, dealing with yellow press and paparazzi is an everyday thing but it becomes more difficult when it seems that the most unscrupulous journalist of the show business is always near waiting for something to break her
.
Spencer Devlin made his way with raw interviews, exposing many celebrities and now he's waiting for the moment to get his own show, everything seems to be going well but when he goes to make a private call and runs into the star of the moment in need of help, he jumps at the chance with the hope that maybe she can forgive him and understand that he is not the same man anymore
.
Something shift between them and they start to know each other and understand that there is more in life for both
.
I loved the story and I liked that it was not so long, the dynamics and the chemistry between the characters and the ending, it was perfect and I can't wait to see how this series continues just knowing that this is the start I can only guess what really good is
.
Thanks to Susannah Nix and Harver Street Press for give me a copy of this amazing book in exchange for my honest opinion

Star Bright is out on the 19th April 2022!
I enjoyed this book, I found that I unknowingly was flying through it because the writing style was simple and easy to read. It was fast-paced and I think the story really showcased a glimpse in to the Hollywood lifestyle- the long hours, the pressure to perform and the lack of privacy many people in the spotlight have. I really liked the way the book tackled mental health and showed the vulnerability of the characters in more way that one. Their relationship came on quite quickly in the book but it was super cute to read. I will say I think some of the problems were solved rather fast and could have been stretched out a bit longer.
Both main characters also had interesting back stories that I wish were developed more to really flesh out the characters make them more personable as we didn’t learn much about either of them.
I would definitely be interested in reading more of Susannah Nix’s books has her writing style combined with the plot made this book enjoyable to read.
The plot and premise for this book were adorable, but I just needed more. More character building, more relationship development, more conflict, more romance, more steam or spice, just more. It felt more like a first draft than a final product. It’s still a decent read if you’re looking for something quick with a happily ever after payoff, but don’t want to fall in love with any of the characters.
Star Bright is a wonderful short read featuring an A-list Hollywood Actress and a gossip report. It was hard not to be immediately taken in when Spencer comes to Kimberleigh's rescue at an event, despite all that happened between them before. They fell into a relationship fast, but you could see the connection. I didn't really feel that it was enemies to lovers though as you don't really seem Spencer and Kimberleigh in enemy status. With that said they have a cute love story and I can't wait to read the next in the series!
First of all, I wanted to thank the publisher, Haver Street Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.
I want to start with a premise, I'm not a massive fan of third-person romances, which is why I've always reserved myself from reading some well-known books, but this book has exceeded my expectations. It was a light and enjoyable read, and as I am not a native English speaker, I would definitely recommend this book for people venturing into reading English books for the first time.
The first chapters did not capture me that much, but surprisingly I could not stop reading as the chapters progressed. I needed to know how their story developed. All the plot twists and the jokes made me devour this book.
Second chance and enemies to lovers, what could you possibly want more? The way it all happened was a bit rushed, but considering it is a novella that you can easily read in one sitting, the author has done an excellent job. I really appreciated how the author handled the mental health part and how I was able to relate to the characters in so few pages. It showed real emotions, how vulnerable we feel when we are exposed and out of fear, we decide to close in on ourselves, but if it is worth it, we can do anything for love and forgive even when we have been hurt in the past.
I would definitely recommend this book to people who have read The Spanish Love Deception.
I can't wait to read the following books in the Star Struck series! A pleasant discovery.
This was such an unputdownable read for me. Miss Nix never fails to surprise me. This book really got me out of my reading slump so what else can I say except singing “perfection”. Moreover, it was a really quick fun and sweet read that almost anyone would enjoy. Henceforth, it’s a full 5 stars read for me
This was a fun, quick read! I actually wish it would have been longer because it covered a period of about 6+ months throughout the book and the romance was a little rushed. I would have liked to read about the development of the main characters and their relationship more, but I realize the nature of the book as a novella wasn't as conducive for that type of development. I think this also hit home and tactfully discussed the difficulties of relationships when someone is a public figure, as far as acting in relationships, trust, public perception, etc.
This book was…just okay. The premise is great and after initial bad impressions of the main characters, they do redeem themselves somewhat. I just found it very difficult to get into the story. The romance felt rushed and not realistic at all. Kimberleigh and Spencer went from hating each other to suddenly jumping into bed and then having a secret relationship. And it simply didn’t work for me.
I really wanted to like this. I realize that it’s supposed to be a novella, but perhaps if the author had tried to fill in some of the many gaps and flesh out the characters and plot line a bit more it would have made more sense. As is, it has potential…but it left me feeling empty.
3 stars.
As always, thanks to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for the ARC. Star Bright will be published April 19, 2022.
I liked it but it was different from what I pictured with an enemies to lovers. They aren't enemies pretty fast, the miscommunication was a lot, and I didn't feel that the characters were flushed enough and they weren't together a lot of the time.
Star Bright
Star Bright by Susannah Nix shows the story of Kimberleigh who is an A-star actress and Spencer who is a gossip reporter.
I really like the panic attack scene which brings Kimberleigh and Spencer closer together. It was a perfect depiction of Hollywood reality we may not be aware of. I love how the book shows the struggles of being an actress in the media ridden world, and the measures famous actresses need to take in order to protect themselves.
I love Kimberleigh and I can understand her cold demeanour. Her ice red and detachment are a way of protecting herself! However, despite her attitude, she is never once unprofessional or unnecessarily means. Spencer, on the other hand, shows the other side of Hollywood life, which is the reporter’s life. He shows that not all tabloid writers want to humiliate big stars or make them uncomfortable.
That one scene that causes the fallback in their relationship absolutely broke my heart, and I do feel for Spencer.
What I didn’t like about it, was how rushed the romance was. It took one encounter for Kimberleigh and Steven to catch the feeling, and even though their relationship spans 6 months, I wish the buildup was a bit longer. That being said, the book could have been longer to present their characters and relationship better.
The book was provided to me via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
This wasn't the book for me. I never really connected to the book--the characters, the plot, nor the writing. There was nothing wrong with it per se, but my style of books is not to have the two mains hate each other off page, have one conversation in chapter two, and then suddenly have some kind of "attraction" where they sleep together at 30%. Which is what this did. Where was the build up? Where was the tension? The banter? The chemistry? Where was literally anything other than the plot saying they had to sleep together to get their secret relationship going. I think this could've benefited by being longer. Build up their hatred more. Build up their can't-deny-it-chemistry more so that when they have sex in their third scene together in the movie, it makes more sense.
I'm interested in reading other books by the author because I think the story overall would've reeled me in. But the pacing was so fast in the beginning, that it didn't hold me. The FMC is famous, the MMC is a Ryan Seacrest type reporter (he's even from GA too!) It's told in dual 3rd person narrative, which I think fit this novel, I just think it needed to be longer in the beginning. It's barely "enemies" to lovers because in chapter two he explains his side and because FMC is having a panic attack and he's helping, she's in a forgiving mood. Very rushed. Very unrealistic. But whatevs.
Also, the story ends at 90% of the Kindle file. This is SHORT. You then get previews of two of the other books in this stand alone series. I didn't know that going in, so I was very surprised when I flipped the page and BAM epilogue. I guess that also makes the beginning pacing make more sense. (It wasn't 30% of the *story* that they had sex...)
So if you like, famous person, enemies to lovers, story moves waaaaay too fast, this (is it long enough to be a novel?) is for you!
