Such a cute concept. Love the romance between a young Hollywood starlet and a member of the paparazzi. What could go wrong?
I really enjoyed this novella. Sometimes when it's so short things can seem rushed or sort of confusing. But I thought this one flowed naturally. The chemistry was real and didn't seem forced. I thought Kimberleigh and Spencer were a good fit even with their differing careers.
I loved the dual narration. I feel like I've read a lot of single POV and was glad to get back to the male POV. I definitely prefer it.
I'm intrigued with this series and look forward to the other novellas to come!
A sweet, cute, quick and easy read. I liked the characters and also appreciated a story that mentions mental health. My only complaint is that I wish there would have been more to read! I wouldn’t enjoyed hearing more about the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for this arc.
My rating 3.5/5 - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫
The story
Kimberleigh Cress is a successful actress. After a rough childhood in foster care, she keeps to herself, works hard and maintains a icy exterior. One night at a gala dinner she feels a panic attack coming on and escapes to a quiet room in the venue. When talk show host Spencer Devlin realises he isn’t alone in the room where he wants to make a call, he sits with Kimberleigh until the panic attack has passed. This becomes the start of a deep and more meaningful relationship than either has had before, but can it survive stardom?
My thoughts
This shortish story shares the intense feelings of each of the characters. It’s a story about learning to trust the person you love, despite living in this hopelessly fake world of celebrity. I enjoyed how both Kimberleigh and Spencer were kind and capable of great love even though their exterior and stereotypes weren’t. It’s a charming and quick read.
Star Bright is my 3rd read from Susannah Nix. I read her King Family series earlier this year and loved them. This was great as well. I promptly went and bought the other books in the series on my kindle. I love fame trope so this is right up my alley! Also the romance is open door which is pretty much always a plus for me.
I will post on my Instagram @katebrownreads as well before pub day!

I received this book from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own
Thank you to Haver Street Press and NetGalley for providing me an ARC for honest feedback.
Kimberleigh Cress is an up-and-coming actress looking to transition her career to the next level. Spencer Devlin is an entertainment reporter whose job is to find out the secrets of the stars. When these two come together during an unexpected panic attack, sparks fly and romance follows.
Shorter than a full-length novel, Star Bright was a quick and easy read. With the shortened length, there was a ton of insta-love happening and quickly resolved conflicts. While I enjoyed the author's writing style, I never felt connected to the lead's emotional journey. For this reason, I am giving it a rating of 3/5. If insta-love is your favorite trope, I recommend giving this book a chance.
I really enjoyed this Hollywood romance enemies to lovers novella by Susannah Nix. Kimberleigh and Spencer have a rocky past but when Spencer comes to her aid one night when she's having a panic attack Kimberleigh starts to realize maybe he wasn't as bad as she first thought. Steamy and full of heart. I really enjoyed the mental health rep and how vulnerable the characters got, struggling to take a chance on love but still willing to forgive when feelings get hurt. I'm excited to read the next books in the Star Struck series! Much thanks to NetGalley and the author for my advance review copy!
Star Bright is a quick and easy romance, the first in the Starstruck series. The book has some fantastic mental health rep, around anxiety and panic attacks. The author handles these topics with care and careful consideration.
I liked both main characters, Kimberleigh and Spencer and liked the enemies to lovers trope. I also liked that although there is a miscommunication trope, they actually talk about and move forward.
The book was a bit insta-lovey for my taste, but I think it had to be, being so short. I struggled because I found myself wanting more story from this, most pining, more angst, just more.
Susannah Nix is still a favourite author of mine and I will continue to pick up her books, as she creates great stories, with fun plots. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.
Quick, easy and fun read that is well written with a compelling sotyrlin eand well developed characters that I liked. A really enjoyable read.
Not quite sure where I fall on this--I think it's just the right length and has just enough character depth and arc that I rate it a 3.5 that I rounded up to 4. If one is looking for a fast read, one that is fun without being all fluff, then Star Bright is certainly one that I can recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for providing the ARC.
I love Susannah Nix and I was eager to get my hands on this book. I loved the premise of a guarded actrees falling in love with a gossip reporter and it made for a very interesting dynamic.
The only thing I didn't like was the length. It falls somewhere in between a novella and a novel, and while it made for a fast read, I actually wanted more story. It felt rushed and undeveloped in a lot of parts. I understand that that's the nature of these shorter novels, but I feel like this book would have benefitted more from being longer with more character and plot development.
Overall, it was a fun, cute book that delivers more on what I love about Susannah Nix as an author, so I'm not at all disappointed.
A short novella about a beautiful hollywood star and a tabloid reporter. It's a fun, quick read. It's romantic, somewhat steamy and witty. The characters weren't that likable in the first few chapters but turns lovable oncce their backstories are explained. A great addition to the hollywood stars series. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
This was an enjoyable read. Even though it is a shorter read, I was drawn into the relationship between Kimberleigh & Spencer. For an enemies to lovers story, they didn't spend much time fighting their attraction to each other, giving an insta-love feel to the story, but it worked. I do like it when a frosty character meets the person that makes them think that letting someone in is a good thing. This put a smile on my face & I am going to need to read the rest of the series.
This is a sweet quick read! It follows Kimberleigh, a hollywood starlet and Spencer, a hollywood interviewer. My only complaint is that I wish there was more! I would’ve loved to have read more about this couple.
Kimberleigh Cress is one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood. Her life in the spotlight has developed a shield. Trust few and don’t let anyone see her true self.
So when a controversial tabloid reporter comes upon her during a vulnerable moment, the last thing she expects is kindness. Devlin isn't at all who Kimberleigh thought he was. He even has the power to chip away her layers and surprisingly have fun and feelings….could she have the wrong impression of him? And can she act on those bubbling feelings when she has taught herself not to feel for anyone?
I truly loved this book. I was a little hesitant after reading a few reviews but Nic proved me wrong! I love celebrity romance novels and this one delivered to exactly that. The characters may not be likeable at first but I think that’s the plan as you continue to learn about them and why they act the way they do. I love how she made celebrities relatable. The issue of anxiety and panic attacks is focused on and done so in such a real way that we are reminded that everyone is human and has their demons. Being a novella I also loved how this was a short read that I could read in one night and go to bed with all warm fuzzies. I will definitely be checking out more of this series and Nix’s books. Thank you NetGalley for an arc copy in exchange for my honest review!
3 stars
Star Bright is a short and sweet novella that is a great choice for anyone who loves Hollywood to pick up for a quick read. It's got a bit of angst, a bit of banter, and a bit of spice - what more can you want? It's not breaking any new ground, but sometimes you need something that relies on the familiar to give you that little bit of comfort.
Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!
This was such a cute insta- love, enemies to lovers romance novella that I devoured.
This novella followers Kimberleigh, a Hollywood actress that wants to be recognised more, and Spencer who wants to make it to the big TV stations.
This was such a sweet romance book, with undeniable chemistry, tension between Kimberleigh and Spencer.
I really enjoyed how celebrities in the public eye are effected emotionally and mentally.
This was such a addictive unique romance novella that had such loveable characters.
A really cute, sweet, cinnamon roll-y prequel novella to the Starstruck series. It just hit all of my favorite saccharin sweet notes, with a nice touch of spice tossed in - yum.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you to Netgalley & Haver Street Press!
Kimberleigh Cress is everyone’s favorite Hollywood starlet but there’s more to her than just a pretty face. She keeps her secrets hidden with her standoff-ish attitude toward journalists, especially Spencer Devlin. After a chance run in, Kimberleigh drops her cold exterior and begins to trust Spencer.
Star Bright is the first novella in Susannah Nix’s new series Starstruck. It’s a sweet enemies to lovers romance with just the right amount of sassy banter and tender moments. The characters are well developed without too much excessive backstory. The storyline is well paced, making this a great short vacation/beach read.
This is the first book that I have read from author Susannah Nix but I look forward to the release of the next book in this series.
THIS IS IT PEOPLE!! Second Chance and Enemies to lovers?!??! HUBBA HUBBA! Fantastic writing and banter made this book amazing!!! I would totally read more of this author and would give anything to read it again for the first time. Able to read it in 1 sitting but still able to savor the magic that is Susannah Nix! When published I see no way it wont be up there with the Spanish Love Deception and the Love Hypothesis.
