Growing up
Life hurts
Emotionally charged
This is a tender story about hope, friendship, coming-of-age, bad decisions, consequences and loss. Following the four friends - Kai, Orla, Om, and Zak.
The story mainly follows Kai and it pieces together the events leading up to, during, and after his breakdown, following a tragic loss. The marriage of his parents that is already going through a rough time, they have a new child and then lose her. The story looks at the impact it has on all the members of the family, friends and the community.
It also looks at the troubles and trails of being a teenager; Love, frienships, school, drugs and more.
This is such a unique book the writing style with the combinations of poetry, art, and prose which was a bit confusing at first, but once you got the hang of it, it really went with the story and actually worked beautifully.
Readers be warned it does touch on some quite heavy topics, that some may find difficult to read. Including; mental illness, death, suicide, grief and refugee trauma and experiences.
Hopefully this book will spread knowledge of these difficult topics to help others.
