A big thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for sending me this arc.

This manga was quite interesting, the graphics were nice and smooth. Some parts were quite funny. However, even with some plot differences, it gave major vibs of "that time I got reincarnated as a slime". The beginning with the orcs was very similar.

The end thought was very promising as it introduce someone that will create a lot of troubles for our hero.

Seems like a fun enough start to a series. I was a little worried there'd be a lot of weird fanservice in this, but so far it's not too bad. There was a moment with the goblins that was fanservice, but the mangaka didn't take the same route with the orcs, so it balances out.

It feels like a standard plot so far. You have a magical genius that's been reincarnated into a new life. I am curious to see where the series will go from here and if it'll retain its charm. There are some very cute moments.

As for the drawings? They're nice. Very cute. Easy to follow. Altogether a solid read.

Belamus was a powerful magician in his previous life but even he couldn't beat death. However, he was able to create a magic that allowed him to reincarnate. In this new life he is abandoned by his human family in a forest and gets picked up by goblins—a mother and her child. Belamus lives peacefully in the goblins village for five years until orcs attack the compound. Forced to show his strength, Belamus subdues the orcs and starts the planning of his new kingdom. The first step is creating suitable houses and then increasing the population.

This is a shounen manga adapted for a slightly older audience. It has laughable scenes, such as the male orcs wanting female orcs. It's quite unbelievable that a 5-year-old can lead a village, but I'm curious to see if the author will continue the narrative with Belamus as a child or making him get older before he succeeds in his quest to create a monsters' city.

The Abandoned Reincarnation Sage is very much like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Belamus was a powerful sage and used his power to reincarnate when his body was near its end. He's now a newborn baby left in the forest for not having enough power at birth. A goblin tribe adopts him and we get to see the village and his life there until he's five years old. Of course he has his memories from his previous life and now finally he can use magic once again. Belamus starts to build the village into a city and teaches others to help and use magic too. The first part is mostly just about this, developing everything. In a way the manga feels like a Lego building contest instead of a story and we don't really get to know the characters enough. Also, Belamus is five and no one seems to wonder enough why he can do what he does.

The art looks something that works with the story and keeps it entertaining and shows us the places too. It isn't anything miraculous, but steady and easy to approach. This is a fast read surely, but cannot really offer anything new yet and I hope hope there will be something to set this apart from all the similar series. A steady adventure this is still.

I did not expect the general plot of "talented human orphan raised by a tribe of kind goblins" to be as charming as this manga adaption is. While our main character is overpowered, it makes more sense given that humans, goblins and orcs all have different abilities in this world. Also, points for having no visible gender differences between the orcs. It's a small detail, but it made me happy. I'm curious about the larger B plot of this story, but the A plot we have so far is a lot of fun.

ARC Copy...typical formula of an isekai set in a high fantasy realm but found the concept of "friendly monster" species that care so much like the protagonist's goblin family to be unique and aww heart warming.

I loved this one! The story of The Great Sage, Mercurius, who reincarnated himself, now called Belamus, and was adopted by a goblin woman and did whatever he can to help their village is so heartwarming to read. I loved the overall story and the heart of it. I would love to read more from this series! Another all-time favorite.

A really well-drawn and enjoyable Isekai

Plot: When the Great Sage Mercurius dies, his life does not end there. Instead, he uses magic to maintain his memory upon his reincarnation. As a newborn, he is ripped from his new mother's arms and abandoned in a forest to succumb to the elements when he is rescued by a kind goblin and her daughter, named Bellamus and raised by her. In the goblin village, he uses the experience of his past life and knowledge of magic to help the people who saved his life and improve their existence.

We also get an additional story of Mercurius before he is reincarnated as Bellamus (though that is plain text and not illustrated).

The idea may not be completely original if you're already a reader of manga/anime watcher, but I have to say the art style and characterisation made this a really fun read regardless. The bonus chapter set up what I believe to be an overarching plotline which may be original but I need to know more before saying that for sure.

Art Style: I really enjoyed the art style which felt incredibly animated, and each character's expressions were very clear. It almost felt like watching an anime version despite it being 2D and black&white which is very impressive.

Characters: Though quite potentially overpowered, this first volume introduces our main character and his new family (and village of goblins), as well as orks. All characters are likeable and I look forward to seeing how they develop in future volumes, which I will pick up.

If you like 'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime', this is the new manga for you as the vibe is very similar

After being abandoned by his own family Belamus is adopted by goblins, but one day while practicing his magic their village is attacked thus revealing his powers.

The story shows that he taught the goblins how to use magic and they started living with the orcs too. They co-exist in the empire that Belamus wants to build, with some problems, but Belamus is quick to fix it.

This volume is a short and funny read. I was quite entertained by the story and the illustrations, and it has a backstory too! Such a fun read.

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this ARC.

Review to come May 19th to my blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley/Kodansha in exchange of an honest review.

I just love books about reincarnation and this one sounded tons of fun! Goblins, a new life, past memories! Oh yes.

Meet Belamus, as a baby he was abandoned by the humans and the goblins found and took care of him! I just loved that goblins, feared by so many, were this sweet and embraced this human, didn't care that he wasn't one of theirs, but they saw he needed help! We then skip to 5 years later and Belamus is now really a part of the tribe. I had a bit of a laugh because due to his memories/due to his hidden knowledge, he knows more than the average human (or goblin) does. The goblins often don't get what fancy words he is using, but don't take it against him. Just try to repeat him and then look confused (or in case of his sister try to nom on his head)! I was pretty impressed with Belamus powers though! Given that for most of the first chapter he didn't seem to have magic or at least just a tiny bit, I mean, that light orb stuff? I thought he was pretty weak. Was I fooled? Yes! Because what follows next was pure epicness and it made me grin. Oh my goodness. If this is just 10%????? Oh no. XD I was hoping that he was staying on the side of good, because we all know how it goes with people with great powers...
I have to say that I liked Belamus... but at times found him a bit too much of a know-it-all. I get it, he is a reincarnated sage, but I would have liked him to just falter a bit at times. He just had a solution for everything and anything. It was just all a bit too easy. Too simple.

The next few chapters were tons of fun (though can someone give these peeps some more clothes, haha). Filled with magic lessons, finding who has potential, helping out the tribe, lots of positivity and I was just so happy for the tribe, for the Orcs and the goblins both. It was so nice of Belamus to help out both tribes and make them one. Try to help them grow and get better, have a healthier life.

I have high hopes that Belamus sister Delarose! I hope that we see her grow more in the next chapters, I feel that she can become quite epic.

I had such a laugh at when the orcs weren't happy and what the reason was. UM, did you think you could just ask? Haha, I mean, if you want something, Belamus is always eager to help out. XD Also that chapter just turned weirder and weirder with each page. Even Belamus was kinda like What the hell?? XD

The bonus chapter? Soooooo ominous! And now I just want to get volume 2! I need to know!

I really liked the art. It was a great style and it fitted well with the story. The action scenes are epically done (just love it when someone can draw a very detailed, highly epic action scene). Plus, the character designs were fab!

All in all, this is one manga that will stay on my radar. I will be continuing reading it. If you are into fantasy, reincarnation, don't mind an overpowered MC too much, love good art, then be sure to check this one out.

This manga was a really fun read. I love the idea of an ancient powerful wizard being reborn and retaining his memories/skills so as a kid he's super strong. It opens a lot of doors for the growth of the plot.

This first volume is a lot of set up and ends on cliffhanger so it will be interesting to see where it goes from there with the old enemy wizard coming back in to play in his new life. I do think volume 1 was used more just to show us the things our MC can do and the art for the different magics was really cool.

This manga follows a powerful sage who, as he dies, is reincarnated into a baby. He is adopted by goblins and named Belamus, and he soon finds a home and family with these goblins.

This was an enjoyable story - I really liked reading about the main character and his relationship with the goblins and eventually other monsters as well. Belamus is extraordinarily strong and powerful with magic, which makes for some funny situations as orcs are shocked by a five year old being able to defeat them.

The character designs were cute, though I could have done without the almost nudity of some female goblins when they evolved into higher goblins.

I’m interested to see where this story goes in the future!

rating: 3.5/5 stars

So while this does pass my test for not having over developed females on the cover and only mild gratuitous nudity on the inside, I still struggle with male protagonists.

It was an ok story, but so far there is nothing having me demanding more. Neither the characters not the plot have really hooked me. I imagine a tween boy would probably love it though.
