This book was so incredibly touching.
I made me laugh, it made me cry and it was incredibly poignant.

This book got off to a very quick start in terms of Hannah and Davey's relationship, a bit too quick for me. I'm not saying it needed to be a slow burn necessarily, but it was quite unrealistic how after a couple of misdials and the odd text she's already obsessing over him and what he's doing. This escalation of communication put me off a bit at first, as I found it more difficult to invest in their budding relationship considering it was solely over the phone. However as the book progressed and especially towards the end, I found myself rooting hard for them to finally get their chance together. I was very pleased with the ending and how they approached it.

This book was definitely more character-driven than plot-driven, and I liked the monthly structure of chapters to progress the timeline further. I wish the plot had been a little more filled out however, as it felt like we were going around in circles at times simply to draw it out.

What happened to Davey and why he never showed up was very tactfully handled and done with care, though please do check trigger warnings in case this topic is difficult for you to read about. I felt so much for Davey and what he had to go through, and I can understand why he made the choices he did.

Hannah was a bit wishy-washy if I'm honest, though it is brought up a few times throughout the book as to how she never pushes herself and makes her own choices. Although it was frustrating to read about at times, if anything it made Hannah seem more like a real person with her own flaws and personal growth which I really appreciated.

It's noticeable throughout the book the number of references to gaining/losing weight and needing to fit' into bridesmaid dresses, which I felt it could have done without. Also, the topic of food and 'healthy’ eating is quite prominent in this book, which can be quite a difficult subject to navigate in a fictional book in my opinion and I don't think it was necessary to plot.

George irritated me to no end, which I think was the point of his character as his storyline progressed, simply to provide an opposition to Dave.

Ultimately though I did really enjoy this book, especially the last third of it, and I had to sit there for a good 30 minutes after finishing it just processing and thinking about it all, which is a sign of a good book.

I liked the idea of this book (and the cover was pretty cute). I didn't so much like the execution.. The fact the two MC's fall in love having never met, along with them both being in other relationships and still being 'in love' with each other felt very insta-love, which I'm assuming the author was trying to avoid judging by the relatively slow pace of the book. Some parts felt to move so slowly and yet others felt too rushed.

I didn't enjoy the dual POV- especially as it's only introduced about halfway. I don't enjoy dual POV in romance generally anyway but at least keep it consistent.

Quite a few people seemed to enjoy this though so if it sounds like something you'd like definitely do your own research, this just wasn't for me unfortunately.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC,

Poignant and captivating tale of missed connections and the power of fate. The author skillfully crafts a narrative that explores the complexities of love, loss, and the unexpected twists of destiny. With its compelling storyline and heartfelt prose, it is a beautifully written novel that reminds us of the profound impact that even the smallest encounters can have on our lives

This was a moving and thoughtful but easygoing read about chance friendships and falling in love from a distance. Told primarily from the viewpoint of Hannah who is just cruising through her life but with occasional input from Texan Davey who is struggling with a life changing event this is a warm read with a strong storyline at its core and two great main characters and their brilliant friends, overall this is a great character read.

I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. 🤍

TW CANCER

this was so good and it kept me hooked throughout. it follows hannah who is misdialled by davey who lives in texas but is moving to london. after many calls and video chats, they both start to develop feelings for each other.

the day finally comes when davey is due to arrive in london where hannah awaits him at the airport arrivals. but davey never shows up.

this book is very well written and flows very easily. it does discuss heavy topics such as cancer and slightly toxic relationships, but it also includes such lovely found family relationships and the best friendships. overall, i’d highly recommend reading this but go in with warnings!!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
The blurb for this book tells us exactly what's going to happen at the start: the misdial creating an opportunity to carry on chatting until Davey is due to move to the UK and Hannah prepares to meet him at the airport. I thought the author created a lovely atmosphere of the warmth between them, and the excitement as he was due to arrive. The blurb says he didn't turn up, and it's all about what fate has in store. Davey and Hannah's stories separate with the possibility of coming together again and I won't spoil anything by revealing the end of the book but ... Each character is described very well, and I couldn't help wondering why Hannah settled for George when he only seemed to want to change her, but the final few pages had my heart racing and my fingers crossed! This is a gorgeous romance which has elements of credibility, including illness, I've signed up to following this author because I enjoyed this novel so much.

This book had been sat on my netgalley shelf for so long and I really don’t know why I didn’t pick it up sooner.
I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did but there was just something about it that made me fall in love with the characters and the story straight away. I was completely invested and wanted to know what was going to happen next.
I went from crying to laughing to being angry and shouting at the characters all in the space of a few chapters.
I thought this was going to be a light easy romance but it was so much more than that and I highly recommend 🥰!

Easy 4.5 stars

This is such an important story to tell and I really liked it. I was completely caught off guard by the cancer diagnosis. The chemistry between Davey and Hannah was just top tier. The only reason this didn’t get a 5 star review was due to at times the love story getting overshadowed by the cancer plot. The theme of love and hope throughout was wonderful to see through the story.

Will-they-wont-they is absolutely my thing and I enjoyed this book, easy to get lost in and I read it in just a couple of sittings.

This was a lighthearted rom-com, which stretched the believability at times, but for a pageturning, holiday read, it is definitely worth picking up at the airport.

Thank you to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

A quick, lighthearted read, perfect for a bit of escapism. I didn’t connect completely with the characters and it was a bit far fetched in places, but overall an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this read, I was looking for a lighthearted easy read and this had a sudden gravitas that I actually enjoyed. The premise was something new, when Hannah & Davey end up 'meeting' through a call to a wrong number. I really liked the characters, apart from George, but I think that's how it should be for the story (he's the classical boy who wants to change you!) In places it was far-fetched but overall I loved the story and read it really quickly.

A wrong number changes everything for Hannah and from then on it’s as if she’s on some crazy fairground ride. She’s not the only one! I loved this novel, how it was written and it was so easy to get into. Sadly it was let down by the ending which at the very least deserved a decent chapter, not what we were given. Far too much of one character and not nearly enough of another. Why does one of the main characters not get much of a voice? He should have been allowed as much as Hannah! I liked her despite her doormat tendencies. There might be triggers for some people but if not then it’s a great story to get your teeth into.

Elle Cook's The Man I Never Met is an emotional rollercoaster. Hannah lives in London, and one day receives a call from a stranger. Davey lives in Texas, and thought he was calling for an interview when he meets Hannah over the phone.

This is a delightful spin on the meet-cute, will-they-won't-they, long-distance romance. I was rooting for their relationship but honestly really appreciated the cathartic cry that this book provided.

All in all, even though the title makes it clear that these two characters won't meet, I really didn't know what was going to happen and I truly thought there was hope. It was a delight to read, and I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting.

I absolutely adored the writing style of this book! This book gave me all the butterflies that a rom com is supposed to. I’d definitely recommend this book to others. Hannah & Dave’y are so cute!

This is a romance with a storyline that’s not the usual
In this genre and I didn’t know how it was all going to turn out in the end.
It follows Hannah a single woman living in London gets a call from American Dave’s by mistake but this leads to more for both of them over the next couple of months.
The story then takes an unexpected turn and I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I will just say it’s an addictive read which put me through the wringer.
Every emotion was felt throughout my reading of this book and I love her historical fiction novels so I knew this was going to be a great story.
A romance with a lot of depth and a page turner in my opinion.

Cook is just over here, trying to break my heart with this! If you read the Flatshare and loved it, you'll likely love this, don't go into it expecting a lot of laughs though, it's gut wrenching at times.
