Maddy and her best friend, Dev, are desperate to try out the new rollercoaster at a nearby seaside town and a series of (un)fortunate circumstances mean it might actually happen.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. Nothing much really seems to happen and it all seems rather unlikely. I disliked the portrayal of Maddy's grandfather, who I felt the other characters were pretty condescending towards. He was the adult on this trip but Maddy seemed to be in charge of the money and the trip in general. Her grandfather only spoke to be laughed at or be a source of embarrassment and it just didn't sit well.

I liked the mix of text and illustrations, which will appeal to fans of the Wimpy Kid series and I understand that I am not the target audience for this book.
