The Binding Room by Nadine Matheson is an absolutely superb contemporary crime thriller. It is the second book in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series and can be read as a stand-alone. I would recommend reading book one The Jigsaw Man first so that you can see the character progression.
The Binding Room is totally gripping as the rather gruesome murders mount up. I tried to guess the perpetrator and was totally wrong – again!
Nadine Matheson draws the reader in with her plotline as it throws up more questions than answers. Along with the murder squad, I was totally flummoxed – who was committing the crimes?
Inspector Anjelica Henley is a wonderful, realistic leading lady. She is not perfect but she is believable as she is tenacious and hard working. She will not rest until justice is served. Following on from events in book one, we witness her PTSD as the past events haunt her.
There is a tension between working as a police officer and having a home life. Both situations demand attention and there are times when hard choices are made.
All the characters were well drawn and realistic, eliciting a variety of responses from the reader.
Nadine Matheson is a powerful voice in crime fiction with her well thought out plots and her attention to detail.
I love Nadine Matheson’s books. I think they would translate perfectly into Netflix series or movie.
I look forward to the next book in this superb series.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

I've finished reading The Binding Room by @queennads and I rate it 5 thrilling stars 🌟

Anjelica Henley and her team are back to solve a shocking unbelievable case that chills them to the core of their bones.

When the local pastor is found brutally stabbed to death DI Henley assesses the crime scene but as she's doing so she's shocked to discover a young man barely alive bound to the bed in what looks like a terrifying torture room, but just as she thought things couldn't get any worse she's shaken to the core to discover that these two victims are only the beginning!

Omg I can't tell you how much I loved this book! Nope forget that I can tell you I absolutely loved it from start to finish it was brilliant, I loved The Jigsaw Man but The Binding Room is on another level it was brilliantly written plotted and executed with fantastic characters, i really love Anjelica Henley she's such a great character and i can just picture the actress Cush Jumbo playing her.

I love whole team I think they connect very well with each other I feel with each book we get to know more about each of them and that's great because you want to know what they are like out of work and their personal lives, this book truly gave me goosebumps and I'm really excited for people to read this book because I'm sure they will love it.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this gripping book

oh my such a long book and one that kept me riveted right to the end....

a murdered preacher in a church sounds a bit like the game cluedo but this book takes it further when police start to investigate the scene they find a hidden room and what they thought was another dead body of a man...

he was kept prisoner and was tortured, and there were signs of a religious ritual performed....

tense times ahead for henley and team especially as another body is found with similar markings and more evidence of exorcisms are found...

how are they all linked and with the evidence pointing towards the preacher, who murdered him?

as i said i was riveted and with many twists and turns and red herrings this book made for a great read

will be keeping an eye out for more of this authors works

This is the second book that I have read in this series and I enjoyed both.

This was very well written and a good plot. Not sure that I like that both books ended leaving you knowing that there will be another I would prefer that the end was more definite.

I would like to that NetGalley for the ARC copy for which I have given my unbiased view..

Loved this book-the premise is excellent, finding one person murdered and then potentially finding out they were a criminal too makes for an interesting read and makes you question your views.

Well written and twisty, very good read.

I loved the author's first book: The Jigsaw Man, so I was really excited to start reading this follow up. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed.
Right from the start I was drawn in again and, just like with The Jigsaw Man, every time I sat down to read I felt like I was actually sitting down to watch a crime drama on the TV. These books should be made into TV shows.
I couldn't recommend this book enough.

The Binding Room is the second book in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series. Whilst this does work as a standalone novel, I think it would be worth reading the first book, The Jigsaw Man, before this one as it will help with understanding the characters and subplots.

This is a dark and suspenseful story about a Pastor who is found dead in his church, along with a man who is discovered barely alive in a hidden room in the same building. The story unfolds as more bodies are found and Henley and her team are tasked with uncovering who is responsible for these gory murders.

This book is well written and I really enjoy reading about these characters. The story was well formed and honestly kept me guessing right to the end.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

4 Stars from me

The second in the DI Henley series, the Binding Room takes us in a different direction to The Jigsaw Man. This is definitely a book you can read without having read The Jigsaw Man first, but why would you want to miss out?

Appearing to begin with the unexplained yet frenzied murder of a hugely popular pastor, Henley and the team soon discover a second body and at this point the book takes a very dark turn. The murder of the pastor, while brutal and shocking, doesn't hold a candle to the depravity that took place in the back room...

It's fair to say that love is different things to different people but in The Binding Room there is only a fast route to insanity and Henley and the team have their work cut out as they try to join the dots before they find another victim.

Meanwhile it seems that nothing can be taken at face value and very few people tell the truth! A large cast of characters presents a wide suspect pool and it is easy to get drawn into pointing the finger of suspicious as you read through the chapters.

I am also enjoying getting to know the team. Henley is a great character, she's strong, ballsy and intelligent, and I like how her relationships - particularly with Pellacia and Ramouter - are playing out. Overall, there is a good balance between the investigative side of things and on the homelife side which helps to 'get to know' them.

A satisfying ending paves the way for another book in this series and I am looking forward to it.

I haven't read anything by this author previously. This is the second in a series of police procedurals. I enjoyed this book very much. So much so, I went and bought the first in the series after reading this one. There are some spoilers for the first book throughout this one.
At times the book is quite gory and goes into some graphic detail of injuries and death - some people may find it disturbing. As is fairly commonplace in books of this nature, the lead detective is flawed. She has a good relationship with her team but her home relationship is strained and both of these are conveyed well throughout the book.
A very enjoyable book. I will look out for more by Nadine Matheson.

This is the second book to feature DI Henley and it's every bit as good as the first, The Jigsaw Man. It has plenty interesting characters and good character development. The plot involves the murder of a church pastor, who has been stabbed multiple times. The writing is good and there are plenty twists for the reader. I never guessed the killer and I liked the ending. I would recommend this slow, steady thriller to lovers of the genre. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This is the 2nd book in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series by Nadine Matheson. I had not read the previous book but it worked well as a stand alone anyway.

Inspector Anjelica Henley is visiting a church but not to pray but to investigate the death of local pastor. The pastor was stabbed 48 times and Henley is quick to investigate the crime scene. She discovers a hidden door that conceals a room set up for torture, bound to the bed in the middle of the room is the body of a man. Shortly afterwards another body is discovered, again tortured and it becomes obvious that someone is torturing innocent people and leaving them for dead.

There is no obvious connection to the victims other than the ‘Modus Operandi’ but they have been targeted and Henley must solve this case quickly to avoid further deaths.

This book is well written with good characters that I am sure will grow on me the more I read this series.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and HQ for supplying a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is the second book by this author and I absolutely love it, just as much as The Jigsaw Man. The writing is confident, with superbly drawn characters and crimes. Top marks Nadine, I cannot wait for your next book.

This book is just as good as it’s debut. I love the character development of Anjelica Henley, Ramouter and the team. I love that the book acknowledged and addressed things that happened in the first book. The book also dealt really strongly with the aftermath of trauma and police politics and racism and conflict within the police, which I enjoyed.

This book is a book that can stand on its own and I really loved the inventive plot. The author mentions in her acknowledgment page that she proposed this idea as a pastor is killed in his church and he has a member of the congregation who he has locked up in the church who is found and they believe he been having an exorcism? And it’s so cleverly crafted from there! This isn’t a gimmicky plot with no substance. Matheson knows how to layer together plot, character development, several loose ends and tie them up satisfyingly at the end. Matheson is one to watch in the thriller genre and I absolutely loved this latest installment. I can’t wait to read more in this series. I love how Henley is faulted and passionate and dedicated to her team and she feels so authentic and real. I also personally want to thank HQ for gifting me a ebook earlier readers copy due to my positive review of the first book. I squealed for joy when I got the email!!

Thanks to the author Nadine Matheson, HQ and Netgalley for a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Binding Room by Nadine Matheson is the second book by the author and is a very clever, gruesome and violent story about exorcisms and adultery. It features the police from the first book, Henley, Ramouter and the rest of the Murder squad. It is a fascinating storyline and it is full of twists and turns making the reader doubt themselves.
I enjoyed this second book as much as the author’s first book, The Jigsaw Man
Highly recommended.

Detective Angelica Henley is called to investigate the murder of a man in his own church and discovers a second man, hidden away in the room upstairs with his hands tied to the bed, barely alive. Henley soon has two crimes to solve and suspects someone is attempting to complete dark religious rituals.

I really enjoyed reading The Jigsaw Man and this sequel was just as good, if not better! I couldn’t put this book down and read most of it within 24 hours. The pacing of the plot was good, a lot happened and Matheson had me constantly changing my mind about the outcome of the crimes. There is a lot of gore included in the descriptions but please don’t let that put you off reading.

I also liked seeing how the dynamics between the characters has changed following the first book. There are quite a few characters and I did at times struggle recalling who was who but this improved as I read more of the book. Matheson has portrayed PTSD and trauma really well, she also explores race which was a very prominent theme and definitely gives readers a lot to consider.

If you enjoy crime thrillers please start reading these books, I really hope there will be more books in this series!

A huge thank you to HQ and NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book to review!!

I really enjoyed ‘The Jigsaw man’ so I couldn’t wait to read The Binding room the second in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series.
Inspector Henley is called out to the fatal stabbing of Pastor Caleb Annan in the church of Annan the prophet in Deptford. Caleb Annan is the respected pillar of the community to all who knows him. As they are short, staffed DC Salim Ramouter is called in to help with the investigation. But when the search the church that he is found dead in, he is not as the community sees him. They find a young man tied up and tortured, beaten, starved to near death locked in a room. Are these to incidents linked? Is there anything linked to the pastor’s wife? As when they told her of her husband’s death, she showed no emotion at all.
When there is another body found with similarities to the young man but not linked to the church Henley and Ramouter realise they may have a serial killer on their hands.
Thank you, HQ, for a copy of ‘The binding room’ by Nadine Matheson. This is another gripping tale from the author. There is a lot of twists and tales going on that keeps you hooked and quite gruesome parts too. Henley and Ramouter have great chemistry together and they make a good team. 4 stars from me.

WOW What a great read.I didn't think the author could beat The Jigsaw Man but she's managed to do just that and with a great attention to detail
A must for lovers of gritty crime novels.
Can't wait for the next installment.
Highly recommended.

A gripping and suspenseful storyline full of menace. Brilliant written and observed and a must read for fans of Nadine Matheson and anyone who loves a good thriller.

When Anjelica Henley and her team start to investigate a preacher's death, they could never have imagined how many horrors will be unearthed. In one of the rooms in the church, a man is barely clinging to life, tied up and locked away. As Henley and Ramouter and the rest of the team delve further into case, they realise there's more to the case than they could ever have imagined.

I actually did a happy dance when I was accepted for this book on NetGalley, I adored The Jigsaw Man! This one is just as good - if not better! I love Henley and Ramouter's partnership, their bond is absolutely lovely.

I can't wait to see the next book in this series, each one has me gripped. I'm extremely invested in the team and want to read more from Nadine immediately. I also need to buy a physical copy of this book to put with The Jigsaw Man - this is definitely a series I'll be keeping!
