I loved book 1 , but I enjoyed this more. It has everything gruesome Murders, a fantastic main character in Henley and a gripping story line. I look forward to reading more.

An excellent read; when a charismatic Pastor is found dead in his church, the genie is truly let out of the bottle. Investigation of the building reveals clues about the murder, but shockingly for those present, the final reveal is a hidden room - containing the tortured and broken body of a young man hanging on to life by a thread. The gruesome case is taken on by the team determined to do their best for the deceased and the victim but each is dealing personally with private issues and mental health is a precious commodity. Their daily struggles meander in an oddly parallel line with the case, often making progress to end back at square one. A disturbing story about the cruelty and also the fragility of the human mind, and what can happen if it is left to fester without help.

A huge 'WOW' from me!!
I read the first book, and thought that was fantastic, but this book is even better, if that's possible!!
My heart was racing from beginning to end!!
So many twists and turns, that keeps you on your toes, but each time you think or you're convinced you know who it was, 'bam' you're wrong!!!!!
When a pastor is found murdered in his church, the investigation by Henley and Ramouter, starts, but oh my goodness, that's not where it ends!!!!!!
Absolutely mind blowing!!!! Mesmerising!!!!
I couldn't recommend it more!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Nadine's book.......AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow…!… I caught myself holding my breath more than once, genuinely worried about what would happen next… a breathless read! It’s definitely an unforgettable story and it just gets more exciting and moving as it goes on until it reaches its conclusion which is a perfect ending. I absolutely loved it.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review. I loved her debut crime fiction which was book 1 in this series .

I still enjoy fact it is set very local to me , it certainly enhances the readers experience when they can picture the scene .

Gritty, gripping and packed with bloody crime scenes.

Had the pleasure of meeting Nadine last night … she is way too smiley to be creating these dark tales!

Fast paced ,thrilling and completely unpredictable.

It’s great to learn more about DI Henley in book 2 as we unravel the case and those working on it.

Her writing is fresh, exciting ,gritty and keeps you turning the pages.

Published 7th July and wish her every success with this release.

Excellent book, fast paced, plenty of tension and twists. Second in a series I feel it’s better to have read the first before this as there are references to the first. I was completely sucked into another world reading this book. My only complaint about this book is the amount of money paid into a bank account! If an author is going to include a benefit such as PIP in the book please make sure research is carried out as to correct amounts. I went from being completely engrossed in a fictional world to the reality of “where has that inflated figure come from?”

That said I’m still giving this book five stars because it absolutely deserves that rating. I’m looking forward to more of this series.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

Nadine Mathewson doesn’t disappoint with the latest instalment with Detective Anjelica Henley. A pastor is found murdered in his church stabbed multiple times, and upon exploring the building, Henley discovers a room hidden behind a bookcase and discovers a body tied to a bed, however, this poor tortured soul is not dead. Then another body is discovered, tied to the bed and tortured, but she is definitely dead. Ritualistic killings and a murdered pastor - Henley and her team work tirelessly to make the connections and try to find the killer before more bodies are found. Simultaneously, Henley is battling her own personal issues.
This well written book with fast paced action makes a great read. Hard to put down, you will want to keep reading to find out what happens next.

All I can say is wow. This was a fantastic book which had me gripped from the off. It's superbly written with great attention to police procedure and at times some of the descriptions of murders are quite graphic. I think this would make a great TV series. Loved all the main.characters and can't wait to read more of Nadines books.

Nadine Matheson is one of my current favourite authors and when I saw The Binding Room on Netgalley, I knew that I had to request it straight away.

Book two in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series, we follow on after The Jigsaw Man with the same cast of characters, solving yet another serilal killer murder spree.

Once again, I devoured this book in less than 24 hours. I loved being back with Anjelica and the gang, and felt like I had never left.

We start the book with a gruesome discovery in a hidden room inside a church. The perfect way for me to start a book; dark, twisted and disturbed.

Nadine Matheson really knows how to write a thriller and keep you hooked from the first line. I was flicking through the pages on my kindle quicker than I had done for a while.

A mastermind of words, a fantastic hook that draws you in and a mind that is probably as disturbed as mine. What is not to love?

I hope we get to meet up with Angelica and crew again soon!

Fans of The Jigsaw Man, I urge you to read this.

A must read for anybody who loves realistic crime thrillers
This book doesn’t avoid some of the more prickly subjects that many avoid.
The story of the crime is brilliant.
The process the characters go through, their emotions, their conflicts, brilliant
The fact that actual and perceived racism and sexism exist and the effect it can have on an investigation, again brilliant.
Everybody should read this book.

Oh how I have missed the Serial Crimes Unit! #TheJigsawMan was one of my books of 2021 so I may gave let out a little squeal at getting to read #TheBindingRoom early.

The second DI Henley book centres around the murder of a local pastor, but all is not as it seems as the team discover the pastor's secrets and more bodies start appearing. I absolutely loved the concept of #TheBindingRoom and how Matheson weaves the themes of religion and mental health throughout in such a thoughtful way. It was a pleasure to be back in the company of DI Henley and her team - I had missed them and cannot wait to spend more time with them in the future!

DI Anjelica Henly returns! After her escapades in The Jigsaw Man, DI Henly is again thrown into the deep end with the case of murdered pastor, Caleb Annan. Sadly it’s not only his murder that confronts the SCU team when they attend the scene, other macabre mysteries come to the fore.

Once again Matheson has excelled herself. A gripping, fast flowing plot, with great characters. The “team” are like old friends and it’s great to see them back. This series is crying out to be made into a tv detective drama.

Loved The Jigsaw Man, love this one too! A great read, would thoroughly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley.

A Triumph Of Torturous Terror…
In this second of the Inspector Henley thrillers, the Serial Crimes Unit are called in to investigate the killing of a local pastor and get way more than they bargained for. With scenes of gruesome accuracy and a complex plot, a solid mystery is cleverly woven, red herrings scattered and threads combine. Characters are well developed and entirely credible. Gripping and chilling in equal measure.

Good book, I enjoyed the first book in the series, and this was a worthy second book. The pace was good, the descriptions dark, but that is to be expected, these books are not for those of a nervous disposition. I enjoyed it, and I think other readers will too.

Having read Nadine Mathesons precious book, I was so excited to get stuck into this new one and I wasn't disappointed. Its definitely a very cleverly written thriller woth plenty of twists and turns. It unfold beautifully and at a perfect pace with teeny tiny breadcrumb clues being scattered throughout and leading to such a good ending. I loved that the characters have depth and intelligence and and multi layered and its not purely focused on the main characters police procedures and professional persona, it also gives all the characters backstories, depths and personalities with all add extra layers to the story. It's quite dark and a bit gory in places but it's not just there for shock value, it's just accurate descriptions of rather brutal scenes. I also have to add that I loved that the characters are diverse and that there's a realistic depiction of life as a POC in the UK today.... but without using it for clout or resting the entire novel on it. Its almost in there as an incidental and not overly emphasised but, to a reader who is a POC, its certainly noted as it is still far too rare to have main characters who are anything other than white and to have the challenges that come with being dark skinned fully acknowledged and explored in a realistic way.

4+ stars

Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley #2 of the Serial Crime Unit, London Met.

Uliana Piontek discovers Pastor Caleb Annan, a Pentecostal Christian, dead at his church in Deptford. It’s a brutal and frenzied killing which feels personal and a further utterly horrifying discovery shocks Anjelica and her team to the core.

First of all, in this case I think more would be gained from this book if the first in the series has been read as Angelica carries issues from it that are included here.

This is a dark, dark chilling read and gripping from the start. There are so many strange things that make no sense, some off notes that floor the team. This includes some characters attitudes which do not chime with the disturbing events. As the novel progresses it becomes more gruesome with some parts that make you shudder, so if you like your crime thrillers with an edge then look no further. There are many shocking plot twists that send shivers reverberating up and down the spine.

The team are excellent, the author has created some sharply drawn and believable characters who are likeable and who you become invested in. Henley is terrific, she’s gutsy, intelligent, hard-working and her bond with her team is great and which shines through the great banter which feels authentic. She is flawed, has her issues, she is still in a hard place but is clawing her way back. The tension between herself and DSU Stephen Pellacia is palpable and conversely the growing trust and bond with DC Ramouter is excellent. There is a good balance between the investigation and the personal which allows you to understand what makes these characters tick.

The novel deals with some pertinent issues such as racism with Angelica and Ramouter experiencing it firsthand. There is political pressure in the form of MP Laura Halifax and I can see where Henley is coming from in her opinions with that one! The more controversial side of certain religious beliefs is an important strand as is mental illness. All are dealt with well in this complex plot which has a dramatic and very satisfying end.

Overall, this is a very well written and fast paced crime thriller which is compelling reading.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Excellent book although at times it was rather blood-thirsty! I enjoyed it but felt as if it was the middle book of a three part story so at times felt a little lost!

I think we have a new queen of crime in town.

After reading, and loving, The Jigsaw Man when I got the opportunity to read Nadine’s next book I jumped at the chance.

We once again join Henley as she tackles another gruesome case. One murder leads to a discovery of a body bound and tortured in a secret room. Will Henley be able to find the culprits before another victim turns up? And more importantly will she finally leave that dreadful husband of hers?

The story is full of twists and turns I just couldn’t put the book down, I needed to know what happened next.

Nadine knows how to write a fantastic crime thriller, after being a fan of Karin Slaughter for many years I think I’ve found my next go to crime author. I can’t wait to see what story she comes up with next

Thank you so much to HQ and Netgalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
