I received this ARC via Netgalley and BooksGoSocial, in return for an honest review. The first book in this series but the characters previously appeared as secondary characters in a different series. This is a unique heroine with a job that offers lots of potential. Daphne ‘Daph’ Jones and her husband, John, are now retired and starting a new adventure. Daph is an Australian officiant for weddings, funerals, and other events. John enjoys their camper adventures, fishing, photography, and time with Daph. In this book, Daph is, at first, excited to officiate at a wedding until she sees the couple and their families aren’t particularly likable in any regard. When the groom dies immediately after the ceremony, Daph realizes her unique position to help the police solve the crime. John, of course, wants to help Daph with whatever she undertakes.
The series has a strong premise with lots of opportunity for future stories. While the main characters are very likeable, the story’s pacing will be better if slightly improved in future installments.
After their (early?) retirement from their real estate business Daphne Jones became a traveling wedding celebrant. She joins together in matrimony. And she does that traveling from town to town with her husband and a caravan called Bluebell.
The wedding Daphne is booked for in Little Bridges gives her bad vibes. Persons in the wedding party are unkind to her and each other, the groom makes a crude comment to the bride during the ceremony and the family forgot to set up a table to sign the marriage certificate (or Daphne forgot to mention that they should). To top it off, the groom is killed before the newly weds have even had their first dance.
Certain that she has useful insights, Daphne is quite upset that the police don’t base their investigative decisions on her witness statement. So Daphne decides she must investigate herself. She’ll show them.
I don’t like Daphne. Her husband John is infatuated with her, though, and so is the author. Many words are used to describe how kind, emphatic, resourceful and all round wonderful Daphne is. It seems, before she came to Little Bridges, Daphne has never been insulted before in her life. Here she gets called old and overweight. It is quite upsetting.
Daphne’s wonderfulness is all tell, not show. “Daphne was one of those rare humans who truly did care about other people’s feelings and put their needs before her own.” If that is the case, the story does a poor job of showing that. Daphne came across as judgmental and inconsiderate. When Bertie, the bride’s grandfather, who considering his age and his actions could be suffering some form of dementia, goes missing, Daphne doesn’t want to go looking for him because “finding a rude and grumpy man was not on her to-do list.” Not a good example of putting Bertie’s needs before her own. Later, Daphne does consider that Bertie has dementia, but her treatment of him does not improve.
Where most amateur sleuths try to talk to all the persons of interest, Daphne prefers to spend as little time in their company as she has to. Instead her investigation is based on a few overheard conversations and digging through old news papers and a genealogy website (this digging is done by John). Based on this she is certain she has worked out who and why.
With all the persons of interest gathered in one room, the police decide to indulge Daphne and let her throw her theories around. Why? When did she upgrade from meddling lady to someone that carries clout with the police?
I like the concept of a travelling celebrant that does some sleuthing on the side. But I prefer the sleuth to be less self-absorbed and more interested in the people she is working with. A celebrant comes into people’s lives at a time they are most willing to share their emotions. The celebrant would have the unique position of becoming everyone’s confidant. Sadly, that angle is not used here.
Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and BooksGoSocial.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
A travelling celebrant and her husband who travels in their caravan on weekends to perform weddings or final goodbyes..
Daphne did not expect to have both events at once. Her arrival in own is not taken well and the people are anxious for her departure. What is really going on that killed a member of the bridal party?
It is an interesting new cozy series.
I liked this little cosy mystery. The first half of the book was very good, later on, I started losing interest but it picked on again. This book is easy to read and I love how the characters were written.
This cozy mystery has two major assets: its setting in Australia and the addictive writing style. I thought the first part of the book was the stronger one. The characters are a bit caricatural at times, especially the bride (but given some Reddit threads, it might not be that far off the mark!). Sadly, in the second part, I sort of lost a little bit of interest in the plot. But overall, I think it is a promising debut for this series with a lead female character who’s older than average in this genre, a refreshing change of pace.
Daphne Jones is starting her new career as a celebrant and along with her adorable husband John, travel in their beloved caravan Bluebell around Australia to each new celebration whilst taking in the sights and sounds of each town they stop in. However, things do not go according to plan when Daph meets the very dysfunctional family of this current wedding. Secrets, lies and death are not the formula for what is supposed to be the happiest day of a couples life. Should Daph get involved and solve this mystery?
I had fun reading this book and now have a soft spot for the very likeable and relatable Daphne Jones and her sweet husband John. I enjoyed all the characters in this first tale in a cosy mystery series and will definitely continue in following Daph in her adventures.
Light easy fun reading. Good story plot with fun and interesting characters. Ready for the next one in the series. Thanks #netgalley and #BooksGoSocial for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
#netgalley #tilldaphdouspart #booksgosocial publication date 30 August 2021 This is a nice little cosy mystery and I found it light and easy to read, some bits were also quite funny. I loved how well the characters were written. 3/5 stars
‘Till Daph Do Us Part’ is such a refreshing book. Very light read with a good story line. A suspense that keeps you guessing until the end. Even though it’s predictable, it still keeps you engaged so see how everything was done.
I really liked John’s character. A very supportive and understanding partner. Daph is a little more emotional but Phillips has done a great job bringing out the different feelings she would experience.
A good whodunnit.
This is a delightful story. I love how Daphne and John are traveling around in there adorable camper "Bluebell".
They have come to a small town for Daphne to perform a wedding ceremony. That is about the only normal thing that is happening. The bride appears to be a bridezilla. She is very high strung and demanding.
There is a family feud going on in the town. This creates a lot of twists and turns.
When trying to figure out the murder that happens it is very difficult to figure everything out. There is so much happening and honestly I do not think the families know the truth to the feud. As secrets are brought to light it is very interesting.
I found myself having a hard time putting the book down. I was always wondering what was going to happen next. I was so surprised with the ending that I found myself skimming back to look for a few details thinking that I had missed something. Yes I did miss a few things because of all of the action and drama going on.
This story happens in Australia and there are some words that are different from what we use in the US. It was not hard to figure out what they meant. It is the charm of keeping the story true to it's setting that made it even more interesting.
This is a definite read. I will find more books by this authors she has a wonderful talent in her story telling.
I believe this is the first in a new series that is a spin-off of another series? It’s quite cozy and I love our heroes, John and Daphne; bright, loving, and cheerful. The mystery was also quite good; engaging and filled with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. However, this walked a fine line between cozy and too cozy; I had no urgency to finish this except to get it off my list. Also, the way it’s written, was too chaotic for me at times and I needed to stop for a while before returning. But, this was still quite an easy read.
Till Daph Do Us Part is the perfect series starter! I enjoyed this one immensely and didn't want to put it down! I look forward to reading many more in this series as they become available.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I love that the main character got to play detective and find the mystery killer. I love the way this book was a good mix of murder mystery and rom com it made for such a good story and had me enthralled from the start I couldn’t put this down
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, BooksGoSocial and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
What a unique story with delightful characters.
I haven’t read the other series this book ties into, so I’m reviewing this as a stand-alone book. The mystery was entertaining, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Daphne and her husband, John are likeable and intelligent. But the supporting character were hard to take. They felt like caricatures. Especially the bride’s great aunt. For some reason she spent most of the book fat shaming Daphne, as did two random strangers when she was chasing a suspect. Weird. Which leads me to the main problem I had with the book. I thought Daphne was incredibly thin skinned. She was almost in tears because the groom at the wedding she was officiating told her he thought she would be younger. And on a side note, why was the chief constable always answering the constable’s phone calls? Are they in a relationship? Does he leave his phone at the office?
Thank you Net Galley for giving me a free copy of this e-book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I liked the characters and.the story. Kind of slow in spots but picked up and enjoyed the book. Hope to read more by this author! Thank you for the book!
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC.
This is a cozy mystery, but so cozy that it nearly put me to sleep. I guess I like cozy with a bite.
The couple: Daphne and John are sweet, but their endearments got a bit tiresome and I found the mystery slow. Sorry!
I enjoyed this book although I found it a bit slow. I liked the characters. #TilDaphDoUsPart #NetGalley
This unique story introduces us to Daph and John Jones, a cute couple who travel in their caravan, so Daph can serve as an officiant.
As Daph prepares for a wedding, she's nervous but confident in her own mind, however, th family she's working for is anything but normal.
The bride is on her third marriage, all of them to men in the same family. If that isn't weird enough, her two previous husbands met untimely deaths.
Daph is trying to be a good sport, but when the groom is found dead, Daph is determined to get to the truth.
I enjoyed this cozy mystery and I think Daph and John are great characters.
I would recommend this book to others.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

Daphne Jones and her husband John have taken to life on the road as they move into their next act. Daphne as an officiant and John who is pursuing his passions of fishing, photography, genealogy and Daphne. As they travel around Australia in their camper to Daphne's engagements, they are exploring the countryside and just enjoying time together. Daphne's latest gig is for a wedding in a small town and she's chuffed to wed the young couple, but when she meets them, she's less than impressed with the entire family and their rudeness to each other and her. But Daphne agreed to marry the couple and wed them she will, then she and John can leave town for her next engagement.
If Daphne though the rehearsal was hard to get through, the wedding itself was a breeze...until a body is found in the pool and Daphne vows to find justice for the victim. So many suspects, so little time for Daphne to get through them all before she has to get to the next town. Secrets, lies and surprises await Daphne along the way and with John's support, she gets closer and yet farther away. But will Daphne be able to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to figure it out before someone is officiating her funeral?
The second book in this series, it is the first I have read and it is fine as a stand alone. It's nice to have a cozy of a married couple on their second act, which I can relate to. I enjoy the relationship that Daphne and John have and think they have serious #CoupleGoals.. Daphne is so empathetic and caring and she just makes you want to get to know her further and you'll be waiting for the next book to do just that.
